How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

check-in and check out wasn't computerized but easy .. I think they also need to provide choices helping to alter or change the reservation

For such big rooms, there’s a bit of lack of investments in comfort. Bed mattresses are regular thick air mattress, which does not really provide much comfort. Beds make a lot of noises. And you sleep right at the feet of the person next to you. No storage in the room. There’s a staff member checking up on the rooms during the night with a flash light, and makes a lot of noise. Overall, it’s ok to pass a night and if you are willing to rest during the afternoon when is less crowded. During the night it becomes a bit difficult to rest.
Property is clean and staff is friendly when approached.

There are no drawers for things under the bed. There is no night lighting in the rooms. Only one bathroom on the floor for a large number of people.

There is no lockers in the room. I wasn't expect to see inflatable mattress.
Location was perfect for me. Clean rooms, toilets and showers. Perfect place to stay for one night.

Sick people coughing all night in the dorms. Extrememly cramped and insufficient kitchen. No lockers. Cramped bathrooms Basement rooms with no natural light

There was close to little ventilation. It was so so humid at all times and the windows in my room barely opened because of the beds positioned against them. Also, there was only three showers and two sinks for everybody in the hostel and they didn't even have a shower on the top floor. There should have been an option for female-only rooms because there were farrrr too many men staying near me as a solo female traveler.

The room was quite small and there was no window so it was also humid with 9 people inside. Sleeping in the top bunkbed I couldn't sit up properly and the mattress was an air-mattress.

Everything was really nice! The room was big enough to accommodate 12 people. Everything was clean, and the bed sheets were smelling so good! The mattress is inflatable ones but it didn't bother me. Only the noises of people moving can be a problem for some people, but I slept really well. I saw some comments here about the necessity of more bathroom/showers, for me, worked well every time I needed to take a shower, they were available. The kitchen is reaaaally small, if you plan on coking, this could be an issue. Extra points for the room that accommodate the luggage, is the best system I have ever seen!

If you rent for a couple days you can get to the -1 floor. There is a kitchen and people make noise there until 1 p.m.

In my opinion, the inside space is not enough to accommodate the amount of guests it accepts: there are only a few bathroom facilities, so you have to wait for your turn. So does the kitchen and the common area. The beds consist of air mattress which are extremely uncomfortble and make lots of noice. Due to lack of ventilation inside the room, the air is stuffy and hard to breath.
The hostel is located approx. 50 walking min away from the city centre. There is a metro station right in front of it though. The staff maintains the property clean. It is inexpensive compared to the market situation in Madrid.

The room had no window or ac so it smelled like someone died in there. Couldn’t sleep because of the horrid smell and was sick the next day.
