Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SpainWe spent one week here in October 2023. 5 of us: grandparents, parents + baby. We had a lovely time overall, there were only a few things to be improved. Ants everywhere. And flies too outside, but the ants were a lots more annoying inside. They were everywhere, biting us. We were very careful not leaving our food outside but they found them even in the cupboard. We found the spray against them in the house, but we didn't manage to solve the problem with it. I understand it's because of the heat, and as part of nature a few would be acceptable, but in this amount they really made our stay a lot more uncomfortable. No dishwasher, but it's not a big problem of course. And a bread knife would have been great. In general it's a very calm area, but the neighbours had a very loud party on Saturday. As it was around 30°C even at night, we needed the windows open. And normally we could park on the street, but this night it was full. They left around 11pm so it wasn't horrible, but difficult with the baby. The location is a pro and a con at the same time. Quiet because it's the end of a steep dead end street, but it's literally in the middle of nowhere. Only doable if you're okay to sit in the car wherever you want to go.
The private indoor pool is a bliss. It was amazing to have it just for us and perfect in every weather. Better than I expected. Huge house, well equipped, washing machine, dryer, shower gel, etc. Smells very nice with air fresheners everywhere. We got a travel-cot for the baby, that we really appreciate (but the ants could get in as well). The host was very nice and helpful. We got some snacks and a bottle of wine as a present. Amazing view from the big terrace, perfect for breakfast and to stay outside for the evening. Even better view from the other terrace with Teide on the left. The whole place looks nicer than what we expected based on the photos.

United KingdomWe hired a car from the southern airport & enjoyed the scenic drive up to El Sauzal. We located the Villa with easy directions & met with Guillermo our host. A fantastic gentleman full of local knowledge, advise & guidance. We felt very reassured to know both he & his colleague Luis were at hand should we have any problems during our stay. El Sauzal is a quiet picturesque village within easy reach of Puerto de la Cruz. A vibrant busy town & home to Loro Parque zoo, a must for any visitor. Villa Laurisilva is a stunning villa, exceptionally clean & equipped with everything including welcome snacks etc on arrival, a pleasant & thankful surprise. Our children aged 16 & 13 thoroughly enjoyed the pool each evening allowing us a little rest & some tv time! They both enjoyed having their own rooms & the luxury of comfortable double beds. They shared the downstairs shower / bathroom & we had sole use of the upstairs. Our bed was comfortable & the ceiling fan was a luxury. Self catering was easy as there are lots of supermarkets within easy driving distance not to mention the ever faithful McDonald’s! The hire car allowed us to visit Santa Cruz in the north east & the beautiful white sandy beach Playa de las Teresitas. Lots of parking available, food & boat hire. We enjoyed two trips to Siam Park (water park) in the south. Shopping at Playa de las Américas, Los Christianos & Costa Adeje. A cable car ride up Mount Teide (booked several weeks in advance). An impressive drive in the North East through the Anaga Mountains, steep windy roads, rock formations & thick pine forests. We had such a fabulous family holiday in Tenerife, beautiful beaches, spectacular mountain ranges, family attractions, & a wonderful villa to return to each evening. Thank you,
