Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomFewer sockets than some places (only 2 between 3 beds). It had an impressively long flight of stairs up to the rooms (no lift). Of the 3 'Casual' hotels, this one is on a slightly seedier street than the other two (which are very close to each other), though you can avoid the less salubrious alleyway 'shortcuts' after dark and still reach it via the busier main streets. This and the absence of a manned reception explain no doubt why it is a little cheaper than the other two branches. The only real inconvenience (if you are sending luggage ahead with Correos or similar) is having to have your bag delivered and collected instead from the manned Casual Mardones, which is 5-6 mins walk away from Serantes. Like the stairs, not a big deal if your bag isn't too unwieldy!
The room was very smart and modern and comfortable, the bed was comfortable, the bolster-pillows were good quality (and 2 per bed), it had a modern aircon-cum-heating unit, good lighting, the shower was large, the code lock for all 3 doorways (outer, inner and room) was simple and great not to have to worry about keys/keycards. Communications (from the centre of operations at Casual Mardones) were efficient.

AustraliaI didn't know it was 3 flights of stairs. With 20 kg of luggage, it was difficult to get up there. The room was advertised with a balcony, but a huge air-conditioning unit was placed there, so it was unusable.
Staff very helpful, room was very clean and comfortable bed. Great location, close to the train station. Particularly liked having the ability to make coffee in the room.

United KingdomThe access code is only sent when the room is ready - this is likely fine for most people, but I was travelling on the day and had no internet or phone signal. I asked for the code slightly earlier or, if the wifi worked by the door, for the code for that, however neither of these options was possible and they moved my booking without my agreement - the intention was to help with my issue (as I was moved to a place with a front desk), but they hadn't taken into account that I'd booked in part for the amenities available at my original place and these weren't available at the new place. I therefore had to ask for my original booking to be restored and suggested that I collect the access code from the place with a front desk as it was fairly near by. This was the solution that worked. I appreciated the attempts to help me and we did obviously work things out, but it did feel a bit hard going. Other than that there were some more minor issues, namely that the 'kitchen', while not claiming to be anything much, did need some bowls, spoons, and a couple more knives, and people might like to know that the same people own multiple properties and you might get messages from one of the other properties (the messages in the app may also not have the links that are mentioned in them - you need to access the email version for those). I still had a good stay, it's just the communication could have been a little easier.
Good location, decent value, generally got what I expected and would use again. The person I met at Casual Mardones was very helpful.

BulgariaBe aware of the very steep staircase to the second floor. Approximately 40 steps.
Located near the Cathedral of Bilbao. The streets of old town are fascinating. Easy access by metro from the airport. Spartan furnishings, but with everything you need. The kettle for hot water and coffee is an excellent solution. It is clean. The bathroom and toilet are comfortable. Restaurants and grocery stores near by. Will visit again.

PortugalThe outside bathroom takes out a lot of comfort. Also, not having a reception at the location is uncomfortable for key pick-up and bag drop. Pricey for what you get.
The hotel is very central, in the old part of Bilbao. The room was spacious and clean, so was the bathroom.

Czech RepublicThe stairs are steep and there is no elevator, not so comfortable for people with accessibility issues or if you carry some luggage. The external bathroom: it's not a surprise when you reserve it but it's not that comfortable in the practice. The cleaning: the day before my check out, room and bathroom were not cleaned: not sure if the cleaning is daily. Overall, a bit pricy for what they offer.
The hotel is in the old town, perfect for sightseeing. The bed is very comfortable, and the room is small and has everything, including a boiler for coffee and tea. Staff is very helpful and responsive. A lovely stay for few days

CanadaVery noisy from people in the hallways. Most notable when other guests are returning from the bars late at night and visiting each other in the hall. Possibly the management could put signs in the hallway or send email reminder to their guests to limit hallway gatherings and keep quiet to respect other guests.

AustraliaWalking up the 3 flights of stairs with our suitcases - but we knew this when we booked. There wasn't anywhere to wash the dishes in the kitchenette so we had to wash them in our bathroom.
We arrived in Bilbao during their annual Basque festival which was a great experience. The accommodation was right over one of the main party streets but surprisingly the windows were very sound proof (except when the nightly fireworks were in full swing)! The room was a good size, comfortable beds and there was a shared kitchenette with a microwave, fridge etc The location was great in the centre of the old city and an easy walk to the metro station and lots of attractions.

Great location 👌 . It was clean the bed was comfortable. Bathroom was clean and okay re sharing. The communication via tx from Casual Serantes staff was good. The air conditioning influences my initial decision and it is a good air conditioning system. 😍 A good price for a single person.

United KingdomNothing apart from the shower being so tiny. The shower itself works great. One small concern was that the code to get in the main building was exactly the same code to get in the next two doors.
The location is great, right in the Old town of Bilbao. We got the bus from the airport to the centre of Bilbao and then it was a 20 minute walk along the Grand Via which is their main street to the accommodation. The bus cost us 3 euros each and takes approx. 15 minutes to the centre. Really easy. There's a busy bar in the street outside of the apartment, but the sound later on at night does not travel through to the room. The shower is tiny so if you are a bigger person you will struggle. There is also 44 steps up to the room from the outside door. This was no problem for us, but some people who have breathing problems, etc it may be. We had no problems and would recommend the place. No one meets you, it is all coded to get in.

New ZealandThe checking in process. We were asked to do this on line which didn't work and was inconvenient., We had to go to a different hotel to check in. Best would have been to offer this option with the checkin hotel address at the same time as offering the on line option. Also we were told it was easy fo find our actual hotel. It wasn't. A small map would have been helpful-
