Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe only real issue was the unreliable wifi connection and fact the pool was out of order.
Its incredible location, tucked away in some of the most beautiful mountains in Gran Canaria. The spaciousness of the complex. The friendly welcoming, attitude of the staff. The good price of the room.

Excellent location in the idyllic rural area in the mountains. Very welcoming and friendly hosts Migel and Paula. Very good equipped and spacious room with kitchen. There we found everything for preparation of our meals. We have got even fresh eggs and home made cheese from the hosts. Highly recommeded for stay and active relaxation in the mountains.

United KingdomTaking into account the mountain location of Villas el Alto you have to remember that some of the roads can be quite challenging for a driver. Don't be fooled by Google showing you the shortest route - stick to the bigger roads! We visited Fontanales in March - due to its location in the heart of the mountains and the time of the year the temperatures were much lower than on the coast and the nights were pretty chilly!
Villas el Alto are located in the small, picturesque village of Fontanales surrounded by the mountains. This is an excellent location for keen hikers as there are many paths starting in Fontanales. The views are breathtaking and the nature rich and wild - a complete opposite to the southern parts of the island. The accommodation in Villas el Alto was very nice. Rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. The host Miguel has a great knowledge of the surrounding area and is very keen to recommend places worth visiting and restaurants serving good traditional canarian food.

Czech RepublicWe were really satisfied in this accomodation. It is in a beautiful location, where you are above the clouds and you just have amazing views! Our favourite part of the day was sitting every the morning on the terrace, enoying the sun and the calm of this place. It is also a nice place to relax by the pool or watching the stars in the night - beautiful common area with many flowers, palm trees, fruit trees and lot of space for sit. Also you are pretty close to many of the most incerdible places in Gran Canaria - not the cities, but the nature, and believe me - this accomodation is much more better that those once in big cities. Any nature lover would love this place. It has comoftable beds, fully equipped kitchen, clean bathroom, garages for the cars etc. We did not have anything to complain about, 100% recommend this apartment. And the best thing of this accomodation is the owner who is there at any time, ready to help you with anything. He gave us many important tips and reccomendations that did our holiday even more unforgettable. We have never met as welcoming and kind landlord as he is. Thank you once again Miguel for everything, we would love to come again next time.

United KingdomThe mini supermarket in Fontanales was closed for refurbishment but there is a good supermarket in Moya on the way up from the coast with fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and a really good delicatessen counter. The kitchen is reasonably well equipped but no oven or electric kettle. There is good hob, microwave, fridge and freezer we enjoyed cooking paster dishes etc. There is no washing machine in the Villa but the staff helped us to use one of the washing machines they use for sheets etc.
Villas el Alto is in an exceptional location on the edge of the village of Fontanales with views over the Los Tilos conservation area. There is plenty of secure, parking shared with the other houses. The four bedroom villa we rented has a roof terrace which is great for breakfast or star gazing in the evening. We did three day walks into the mountains from the door. The signposted footpath S05 runs past the door and your can also walk up towards Mt Negro again from the front door. Our host was very friendly and helpful.

IndonesiaThe flat we got was very spacious, quiet and clean. We even had two bathrooms which I didn't expect. Miguel was very helpful and gave us advice on some walks in the area and shops and restaurants in the village. We mainly came for hiking in the mountains and Villas el Alto was the perfect spot for us. I'd definitely come back

United KingdomWe were in the villa for almost two weeks, so would have liked a microwave or small oven to cook. However, the stove, fridge, and cooking utensils (pots, pans, etc.) were great for what the were!
Ileana, the host/guest support, was so lovely and helpful. She answered all of our questions, gave us lots of recommendations, and generally made every effort to make sure we had a comfortable, clean, and welcoming time.

SerbiaThe internet connection was very unstable. Unfortunately we had to work during our stay and the internet did not work the entire first day and then was patchy at best during the rest of the stay. I know this was mostly due to the internet provider, and not the owner. Another big issue we've had was the temperature of the room. When we arrived it was very cold and the first 2 days the heating was working only for a short amount of time, we were freezing. Although the location is beautiful, if you're not hiking, there is not much to do here in the winter as it was too cold to hang around the pool. The road to the village is great, scenic but very tiring with sharp turns, especially if you drive every day.
Beautiful villa on the top of the cozy village, amazing yard with orange, lemon and tangerine trees, beautiful views over the village and the surrounding mountains! The room was spacy, it had everything we needed, a cozy bed, nice and clean bathroom, very well equipped kitchen (extra kudos for sharp knives!) and a smart TV for entertainment. The village has a very simple market and 3 restaurants to choose from. There is a wide array of hiking trails around and Fontanales is famous for it's cheese farms, there are at least 5 of them around.

United KingdomPool was not heated or cleaned during our stay in December. It is too cold to use the pool. Heating system was not working (wires were pulled out) but we got fuel from Carrefour for the fire which kept us cosy and warm. Fire highly recommended for December!
It is very spacious and beds are comfortable. The host also allowed me to use their laundry room to wash the clothes. There was some firewood in the house which was very convenient as it is cold during our stay in December. It was very quiet too. Blinds were very dark to block the sun in the morning. Kitchen is very well equipped with pans and pots and cutlery. Dishwasher is also a bonus.

Fontanales is in the heart of Gran Canaria with beautiful views and nice restaurants. By car or motorbike the main attractions of the island are easily accessible from the village. Villas el Alto is a quiet place with many individual apartments varying in size. It was very clean and tidy.

HungaryA few bigger cups would be nice in the kitchen. And it should be easier to get in - at first, nobody was around, we were not even sure if we were in the right place. But I called the owner and in a few minutes somebody showed up with the keys so it was solved, but for a short time we felt a bit unsafe.
The apartment is nice, spacious, clean, the beds are comfortable. The living room is huge, with a big TV (we just used it to listen to music on YouTube but still :) ), the kitchen is nice and clean. The road to the village is curvy so you need a good driver (for me it was an adventure but maybe not everyone is aware of the conditions). The owner recommended a restaurant and we had dinner there every evening with the locals, it was lovely.

BelgiumIf you are looking for tranquility, beautiful natural surroundings and a warm welcoming feel, then you should no longer doubt about booking your stay at Villas el Alto. I have experienced this to be a great location to discover the central-northern side of Gran Canaria (by car). Fontanales itself is small, but definitely charming and it is a perfect starting point for several hikes. (Tip: try the circular route from Fontanales via Los Tilos de Moya) I enjoyed my large room and the attentive details like fresh flowers and fruits. The communal garden area and swimming pool were also very enjoyable - and a great place to meet other guests if you like. Miguel is a sympathetic, hospitable and helpful host that cares about his guests. The same goes for Adelaida. And if you’re lucky you might meet Balto, the four-legged charmer. Overall; recommended.

Germany———- // We had wonderful days in the cozy apartments of Villas El Alto. The hilltop villas gave us stunning views over the hills of Moya. Beautiful and amazing!! Miguel was a wonderful host and gave us some special tips for our hikes in Moya and Tejeda. The apartments had everything and were fully equipped. Near the spacious villa, which also had a pool and a garage for our car, we found a local restaurant with good wine and a wide variety of food. We can recommend Villas El Alto to 100% for hiking, single traveller, families and all nature enthusiasts!
