The amenities are basic/not there. It would have improved our stay if there were tea/coffee making facilities in the room and small fridge. However, you can purchase what you need from the bar downstairs that was open when we needed it but not having those facilities did affect our overall enjoyment. The beds are two singles pushed together, although they were comfortable and extra pillows were provided. We had some issues with the toilet flush, which the staff seemed to have the ability to fix when needed. A small table on the balcony would have been nice. We did not use the spa or restaurant during our stay so could not comment on this.

The river/mountain view from the balcony was superb, the location of the hotel is excellent to get to the hot springs and a daily entry ticket for the was provided for free. The staff were very welcoming, patient, attentive and humorous - providing what seemed to be a 24hr service. The room was clean and the excellent daily cleaning service kept it so. It was 30+° during our stay and the room was cool enough resulting in a comfortable night's sleep. It was great to wake in the morning with the sound of the river and the birds and to sit at night with the bats and occasionally entertainment from the pavilion below.

They didn't had a place to park the bicycles for over the night but were allowed to store them in our room.

The atmosphere wasn’t very good, felt like staff were unhappy and came across grumpy so we used the facilities in hotel behind this one.

You should never open guests door if do not disturb sign is hanging on the door - this is unacceptable. One night we came and hotel was closed, no one saw us, bell was not working, we were left on the street for 10 minutes until someone passed by and saw us. Our room waa changed without noticing us. Impossible to turn off A/C, we got ill. No ventilation in toiled/shower. Please learn some English if you work in the hotel industry, we had to use Google translate all the time to explain that guest is vegetarian and with allergies.

I was pleased to see 'gluten free / sin gluten' bread at the breakfast buffet - but it looked the same as the 'normal' bread. I queried it and the server went to get me some GF bread from the kitchen. I can't eat gluten at the moment so eating the normal bread would have given me a week of eczema - but for people with coeliac disease, the outcome would have been much more serious. Possibly the team needs some training in dietary requirements...? We were confused by the specific tables for breakfast. We were sat in a back room which was entirely empty - except for the table right next to us. With less than a metre between us and the other guests, it felt awkward (especially as we're still transitioning out of covid measures). Fine if you need to set down order sheets on tables - but the system needs to allow for flexibility so guests feel comfortable.

We booked a spontaneous trip to Montanejos and picked Hotel Xauen because of the location, the price and the fact it has a spa. We loved the friendly staff, the secure garage and that we could pay just 10€ more to check out late. Our room was good - we had a terraza with room to sunbath and look out over the river valley. We pre-booked our time in the spa - there was only us and one other couple in so it felt like we had it to ourselves. The highlight of Montanejos is the beautiful river. We got up at 6.30am to swim at Fuente de los Baños by ourselves - magical!
