Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandUnfortunately our family room (Antoinette) had only very small windows and no view at all. We were really hoping for one of the two (out of three) family rooms with a view. It only had a bathtub which made it difficult to shower (no shower curtain).
Very friendly owner as well as the whole service team. The chateau is lovely decorated. It is a nice little oasis.

Sweden- Woke up by construction work at 8 am in the mornings. Two houses are being built in the neighbouring property, and the work continues through out the day. - Really nosy and arrogant response from a staff member when I requested a simple completion time for the very noisy gardening work (did not ask for the work to stop - just when it would finish, to adjust my expectations). A child was using the leaf blower for 3 hrs straight. The gardener were collecting leafs in a completely different spot from where the boy was, the winds were strong, and so the distubance did not seem very purposeful. The male staff member showed zero understanding of my need for rest during my vacation and did not even care to investigate when the work would finish. Even less to do the effort and ask the boy to be mindful about the very noisy blower, as it was disturbing everyone at the pool. I actually had a much more fruitful conversation with the friendly gardener himself in French (which I do not speak a word of, hence some assistance would have been appreciated), and the boy suddenly didn't have to use the blower anymore. At a place with standards, I would expect a bit more than getting a defence speach thrown in my face and then have the personell dose off into the kitchen without any further action, leving it to the guests.
- Beautiful house - Nice views - Big, spacious room

France-
Emma and Paul’s property is the perfect little hideaway to come to for tranquillity, exploring the area around and to recharge the batteries. Facilities to a high standard, beautiful gardens and bedrooms and very attentive staff and owners. Little touches that make the stay extra nice like freshly cut lavender in the bedrooms, straw hats for the children and a breakfast buffet with lots of choice. Emma and Paul make you feel instantly at home, provide plenty of recommendations on where to visit and dine. Both our kids loved their stay and most importantly fell in love with the mascot of the château- Woody. The pool and pétanque area also came in very handy during the afternoons and early evenings. Quite honestly, the most perfect serene place to just enjoy a glass of wine sitting on the terrace after a day visiting.

United StatesNo elevators … it is a XVIII century chateau 🙂, a little inconvenient to carry luggage up although Marc Edouard was kind enough to help !
The “ feel as at home, relaxed ambience “. Beautiful setting in a small Provence town very close to Avignon . Areas to relax and admire the Provence landscaping . The welcoming team lead by Marc Edouard, warm and informal. The chateau mascot “ woody” . The nice couple that owns the place.

SwitzerlandPerhaps I would enjoy having a dinner in this peaceful place, however the owners arranged a table in a nice local brasserie 10 min away.
Really peaceful garden with beautiful views, cosy rooms and delicious breakfast with fresh whole fruits and organic yogurt. Vey warm friendly family owners. Pool and little playground, everything needed for a great family or couples getaway.

United KingdomI didn't like the fact that I couldn't stay there longer - I loved everything about Chateau de Varenne.
Everything about our stay was perfect. Chateau de Varenne is truly exceptional - room was super comfy - I slept for 10 hours non stop which rarely happens to me. Swimming pool area is quiet and relaxing. View from the chateau is great, and you can enjoy the tranquility of French countryside. Staff was really nice and helpful - one lady helped us book an amazing dinner in Chateauneuf de Pape which was definitely the best meal we've had so far in France. Breakfast at the chateau was delicious too. It's a shame we couldn't stay there longer!

CanadaThe beautiful family run chateau has an amazing atmosphere and you immediately feel at home. It has big beautiful rooms, a lovely pool and an amazing breakfast. We choose the chateau as the owners have kids themselves and traveling with three bigger kids it was important for us, that they felt comfortable as well. And it was just the right decision. The owners are super friendly, we loved to hear them tell about their journey and the fact that their kids and sweet dog were hanging around added to the homey feeling. We would love to come back!
