Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe owner was particularly friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable and we enjoyed our breakfast. We chose the hotel for our one night stay in Marseille because it was close to the stadium, so we were prepared to pay the high price that all hotels seemed to be charging over the Rugby World Cup weekend.

United KingdomTo call this a hotel was stretching the point. We had taken some comfort when booking based on the website claim that it had been “entirely renovated” the previous year. There was very little evidence of this. The laminate flooring looked new but the shower / toilet was sadly neglected had not been touched for years. All the bedroom furniture gave the impression that it had been sourced from a second hand shop. The ”one-pin” electric plug on the bedside lamp was a novelty, which I didn’t risk trying out. The TV offered Netflix - until we realised this wouldn’t work without Wi-Fi which wasn’t available in the bedroom.! At the same time there was no signal via the aerial cable so the TV was rendered useless.
Not a lot. In fairness the breakfast at €10 was reasonable value and the reception staff were friendly. We had booked (and paid a huge premium) because of the proximity to the Stade Velodrome in order to watch the Rugby World Cup Quarter Finals.

United KingdomI booked this back in November last year and expected that given it was a rugby World Cup venue, the price would be significant. The Booking.com entry says the hotel was entirely renovated in 2022 - whoever did it did a terrible job and how anyone can justify the amount I paid per night given the condition of the room is beyond me. The shower cubicle was breeze blocked into the limited space available and the gaps filled with expandable foam, the finish in the bathroom itself was appalling with discoloured caulking everywhere, the pump driven toilet was plumbed into a gaping hole in the wall, the bedroom window wouldn't open as it snagged on the curtain pole, only one light, an overhead reading light, worked in the whole room, wifi was advertised but only worked in one area of reception 2 floors down. When I complained to the owner I got a Gallic shrug and his solution to the broken lights in the room was a bedside light with an extension cord draped across the bathroom door way - there was no bedside table to put it on! Very very shoddy and a complete rip off given that the price of the room on Booking.com the weekend we were there was less than 60% of what I had to pay up front a year ago. Where's the vetting of these locations by Booking.com?
Room was clean, bed was comfortable, hotel was close to the location I wanted to visit

South AfricaThis is a Euro 90 per night hotel at best. At Euro 450 this was price gouging in the extreme. I’m very disappointed that Booking.com allowed themselves to be a party to this.

United KingdomThe room was very dated although tidy. There was no functioning lighting in the bedroom including the bedside lights as shown in the pictures. I did not pull the head board from the wall, that is actually how it was NOT attached at all. There was only 1 x plug socket in the room which made charging etc, very difficult. The room certainly did not warrant the over-inflated prices of £701 for 2 nights (that I agreed to on booking), due to the Rugby World Cup. And the booking website pictures were not what we got! I did not make any complaints to the manager/staff as It would have cost me more to move hotels. I accepted that it was just a clean bed for the night.
The manager called me prior to check in due to late arrival to confirm access arrangements (nice man). The room had aircon which was a blessing in the 30C temperatures that weekend.

South AfricaNot open if you need to arrive early. I wrongly assumed that although check-in was only later in the afternoon that I could store my baggage if I arrive early. Internet did not work in the room. I needed to go to the reception area to use it. Location bit dark at late night. Felt a bit unsafe, but it could just be my perception. Some people might feel scared walking there at night. Shower very very small and the room had no toilet. Again I assumed it would have one. I needed to use a shared toilet.
Location good ito proximity to rugby stadium.
