Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyFirst time I didn't meet the owner while staying at one of these gites, and that might explain a lot. I'll give him credit for trying to do something with an old building in a town where so many ancient buildings just seem to have been abandoned, but the decor was really weird, all sort of thrown together out of whatever was available. Maybe he's trying to see if he can make a go of it, but in the meantime, just having a sheet of plywood as a door to your room (for example) really doesn't make a good impression.
Central, roomy, comfortable bed. Reading light.

United KingdomThe location made me feel nervous..but it was ok. Didnt venture out that night. The house needs some TLC a good scrub clean and freshen up.the kettle lid didnt close, the bathroom radiator was hanging onto the wall by a thread, the door handle was a long screw, the cupboards were full of things. And no stuffing in the pillows! And room 1 has clear bricks i. The wall so we were disturbed by anyone coming in or out..
The bed was so very very comfy! The snacks left were great! Plenty of facilities if needed. The tv was twice as big as the room!

IrelandWhen we arrived there were no keys in the lockbox for us so we couldn’t get in. This was not the owners fault though as I believe another guest took 2 sets of keys or hadn’t left their keys back when leaving. The owner contacted another guest at the house to let us into the building though so we went waiting out on the street.
Great location near the train station. Comfy room. The owner left breakfast for us in our room, some pastries, yogurts, juice, tea, coffee and a few other things. Owner was extremely helpful and friendly. The owner drove 30 mins from another town to give us keys to our room so we could lock our bedroom door and could feel safe staying there as another guest had not left our room keys in the lockbox.

NetherlandsThe door to our room was plywood and seemed very insecure. You could see a lot of space around the edges. The front door was confusing to figure out how to close. also the breakfast comprised of a few pre-packaged pastries, one yogurt, and a few sad looking pieces of fruit. It was just ok
We liked the bathroom which was modern and very spacious. It was good value for money

AustraliaThe stairs to get to the rooms on the first, second and third floors are very narrow steep and spiral, making it quite tricky with luggage. There was a problem with the front door lock which was very temperamental and made you wonder if the key was going to break whilst trying to open/lock the door. The door of the building was required to be locked with the key from the inside which could make for a difficult evacuation in the case of a fire. We never met the owners, although breakfast was delivered daily. They did communicate at the beginning and the end via what’s app.
The property was spacious, comfortable and had a very effective air conditioner.

United KingdomIt was a good price for what we needed...a place near both the train station and the town centre, for one nights stopover. This part of the city is abit scruffy and can feel abit intimidating at night, but it is very safe. There is everything you need in the large room and it is all clean and comfortable and worked very well for us.

United StatesThe front door was hard to handle. I had specifically asked about a secure place to lock our bikes and had received a message that our request would be accommodated but there was no such place and we needed to leave them overnight on the street outside. The host could not be reached at the phone number given to us in our reservations and email communications and at the door !!! We tried calling several times! I also think the breakfast was a little meager. Only packaged cookies and powder creamer if you wanted milk in your coffee. I think, it should also be in the description that all the rooms are only reachable via a tight staircase. Someone with a big suitcase will have. Very hard time to get it to their room.
An amazing house to sleep in architecturally. It was clean! We liked the style very much and the bathroom had a really nice shower.

SpainThe house needs to have an entire upgrade. Shall put more attention to the cleaniness.
There is a common kitchen to be shared by the 4 rooms. The owner is super kind. The room is spacious. Although it is difficult to find in the first instance ( it is located in the alley), once you get the direction you would realised you are in the centre of the town.

United KingdomThe wardrobe was full of junk, as was the sideboard. There was a derelict dishwasher in the bathroom! There was poor attention to the details of cleaning and maintenance. The view from the room window was of cleaning equipment, litter and a dirty fire escape. The communal fridge had rotting fruit. The electrics were potentially dangerous. The neighbourhood was shabby and an uphill walk from the station.
There was a handy box of tissues in the room. The bed was big. It was very cheap. Potentially this could be lovely, but a lot more care and attention is needed.
