Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ColombiaI had reservations about my stay since this seemed like a very remote location in Shetland and I didn't know much about it. We rented a car and it was easy to navigate via GPS to Brea, which seemed like a nice little town with supermarkets and some restaurants available (I thought there would be nothing around for miles). It's easy to get to the house and it has a lovely view to the water. The staff was friendly, the house is cozy and warm and even though is a historic venue, the rooms were well kept, clean and the bathrooms were fully refurbished. The food is good, they offer a fully loaded Scottish breakfast (if that is something you fancy) and a variety of meals for lunch and dinner, preferably book in advance. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if I'm ever back in Shetland, I'd come back.

United KingdomBoth my parents are Scottish, so I'm very familiar with the language. Chatted to staff upon arrival, then ate dinner on the evening and again no language barrier, but in the morning I had to ask the waitress twice to repeat what she said but she was mumbling, so I said in an apologetic way 'I am sorry I cant understand you', the other waitress came over and firmly repeated what she said to us (same waitress so nice the night before but I get she was being protective towards her friend). My husband and I asked for breakfast minus the meat products but asked for double eggs instead and not only did I hear one waitress say "how rude" as they walk to kitchen but it took them a good half an hour to bring our breakfast out. The people who came after us that were served by same waitress had to ask her twice to repeat herself and there full breakfast arrived within 10 minutes of sitting down. Customer is not always right but I know I was not rude to her so we did not deserve the quality of service we received
Evening meal tasted fab and at a reasonable price The view from out bedroom was beautiful, bedding clean, as was the bathroom The hotel has a old fashion style but actually that's what we wanted

United StatesThe rooms won't necessarily have speedy wifi depending on which one you get. But that's not necessarily a bad thing if you are trying to disconnect. The Long Room (a common area) has plenty fast wifi.
This was my second stay here. Loved it the first time, loved it the second time. The food is exceptionally good, the staff is excellent, and the whole place feels warm and inviting. It was close to Esha Ness, and it also had trees and beautiful grounds.

United KingdomBeds comfortable but pillows thin, hard and flat, badly need replacing. Incredibly cramped bathroom in room Papa Stour. Be aware that with no lift there are some 30 stairs between some rooms and the restaurant. Also around 20 steep stone steps down from car park to reception. Though the young man on reception did offer to carry my case for me.
Quirky old house. Staff friendly and helpful. Food very good at dinner and breakfast. Good views.

DenmarkOur rooms turned towards the yard, and one could hear the fans from the kitchen in the morning, since we slept for open windows.
Very good freshly cooked breakfast with a lot to choose from. Helpful and kind staff. Diner also excellent and the wine list is long. Cosy lounge to sit, where you can enjoy a drink before dinner, and the staff will take your order and pick you up shortly before the food is ready. Relaxed atmosphere. I believe the rooms may be a little larger than announced (it said 8sqm)

United KingdomThe room was hot (yes we had excellent weather!) and although the windows were easy to open from our two rooms we over looked a courtyard were the kitchen staff took their breaks… this meant for us quite a lot of noise with the windows open.
The property had great character and the bedroom/bedrooms were well refurbished and clean with good facilities. The staff were very attentive and friendly which made for a great experience and the location of course was fab!
