In the morning, we were booked in for breakfast. Part of the hotel was reserved for guests for breakfast. We were shown to our table by a pleasant young lady who explained what was available and would give us a little time to decide what we were going to have. At this point, we noticed that the chair covers which were covered in fabric, were severely stained and grubby, so much so that I had to find one which was covered in a leather look material which was cleaner. Looking around the hotel bar area it was much the same, and it could do with a really good professional clean and sprucing up. Overall, the breakfast was good, as was the service. The cleanliness of the downstairs bar and resteraunt area is letting it down.

It was a good place to stop for an overnight stay as we were going to our sons 40th birthday party, which was just a few minutes down the road from the hotel. The room was clean and tidy, as was the toilet. There were coffee and tea making facilities in the room as well as the usual hair dryer and iron. So all positive. The receptionist was pleasant and quickly booked us into our room. As we were eating and drinking at our sons, we couldn't comment on the bar facilities at the hotel as we didn't use it that night.

Portions of English breakfast were too big so opted for scrambled egg on toast but it was dry toast. No butter or spread on it.

The television in one of our rooms was not working but Charlie?? Went out of her way to get it sorted and even came to find us in the restaurant to let us know if was mended. Molly was a pleasure to meet .

Location was excellent travelling from south to the north - perfect half way point and easy to access. Staff were very friendly. Room was large with a very comfy bed. Food was traditional pub food but very tasty and fresh.

Beds were a bit hard , the door locks were flimsy, black mould in the shower , not enough tea bags sugar milk or cups in the room for the amount of people staying . Nobody working reception for check in poor girls having to run back and forth between bar and hotel.

Television channels kept breaking up. The cooked breakfast was terrible didn't eat most of it as the only thing that was warm was Hash browns. Coffee barely warm would not eat here again.

The rooms are a bit dated and in need of an upgrade the bathrooms particularly as it was mould around the shower area. The bathrooms had a dreadful smell of drains..

The hotel is in a great location. There is really good access to the A1 from there. I also liked that they had a restaurant on site which was easily accessible and a fair price.

Staff were lovely, we had no hot water but they got it fixed as quick as they could, and gave us a complimentary breakfast and drink. Very happy with their service.

Shelves and/or drawers in bedroom. There is a lack of storage space. Breakfast wasn't as well presented as when we stayed last year. GB News was blocked on TV .

Lovely place, always stay here when I'm working in the area. Comfortable, clean, good food, pleasant staff. On a recent visit, I had to cancel a final night made as a separate booking and the cancellation request was made well past the cut off point, but the hotel honoured the refund; very rare in hotels these days!! Thank you very much :)
