United KingdomThe hotel's management is extremely disappointing. We faced a number of issues from the moment we arrived, which were by no means reflective of a 5-star hotel experience: 1) There was an error when we checked in, which caused our room cards not to work and we had to go back to reception within the first 10 minutes of arriving to have them re-activated 2) Instead of someone waiting to take our luggages upon check-in, we had to ask for that specifically. A member of staff who was of relatively old age came to help us, which made us feel very bad for having them carry luggages. Thus, we did not ask for this service upon check-out despite a relatively long distance from reception to our room, which included stairs and uneven surfaces. A 5-star hotel should present personnel to assist with luggage on its own, without the guests needing to ask for this. 3) We had made a dinner reservation in the hotel and had specifically asked to be seated in the restaurant area. When we arrived, we were told that our table had been set up in another area (which was dull and uninviting), despite our specific request which was made in advance. When we asked the restaurant manager to please sit us in the restaurant, we were faced with a very aggressive and unaccommodating attitude, as well as conflicting information regarding the last order time. Somehow it was possible to order in the brasserie area but not the restaurant - despite the two being the same restaurant! The manager was not making any sense and it was impossible to reason with them and their rude attitude. We were also told in a rude manner: "I'm not going to argue with you" - which completely disregarded the hotel's own fault, the fact that we were a big group who ensured to make a specific request in advance. 4) The bar had 4 wrong rooms listed under our name and not the correct one, causing issues when ordering drinks
The hotel is a very beautiful and huge property, an exceptional building with great rooms of a good size. The different rooms available for lunch/dinner/lounge are beautiful and very comfortable. The breakfast buffet had plenty of variety and hot food options were available and decent. The gardens are very pretty and we loved the finishing touches of having a human-size chess board, a swing, cute places to sit outside and a nice pool. Convenient location close to the main town but sufficiently far away to enjoy peace and quiet.

United KingdomThe room had a very odd stale smell that remained throughout the stay. Also the bed was so uncomfortably soft that my boyfriend could not get his spine straight the first night and was sleeping in a V shape. We had to request that the bed bases were removed so that the mattresses felt more firm and we slept with the mattresses on the floor for the rest of the stay. All of the staff were incredibly nice except for the lady who worked at the reception in the mornings. She seemed quite disinterested that my boyfriend could not sleep until 4am because of the mattress and ultimately we solved our own problem by experimenting and asking for the bases to be removed - the room staff were very kind and helpful with that. Our second last day we had to leave the hotel for Wales for the whole day as David's son was playing the final in the Nationals tennis and won the under 16 singles and doubles tennis so we had not even visited the spa on our trip until the last day. We asked if we could use the spa until 1 pm on our final day when we would leave and without checking with the spa to see if it was busy the receptionist flat refused, said no use of the facilities after 12 and was again very rude. She chose her words poorly to get our backs up rather than declining in a way that would not make us feel like we were just an annoyance and it was a sadly hostile way to finish the holiday. As it turned out the spa was very empty and it would not have been an issue to use it for an extra hour plus it would have made us far more inclined to come back.
The facilities were very good, the food was absolutely fantastic and most of all the staff bar one person were all absolutely wonderful. The room was very large and the location next to the pool was perfect. On the whole the staff were the nicest, most cheerful, authentic, lovely energy people / staff we have experienced in a while. We loved the grounds and the exquisite buildings. It is a truly beautiful spot and an absolutely perfect spot for a wedding.

Breakfast was very good and very tasty. Dinner seemed expensive and was quite good. Cocktail was excellent and fun. Room was very comfortable but lighting was dim. Staff were lovely.

United KingdomOur room was very tired and needed updating. Generally it was clean but things like the shower grout and shower door were mouldy and off putting. Cracked tiles and a sink that didn't drain away well so was obviously blocked with hair and soap for instance.
The breakfast was the best I have ever experienced in a hotel in this country or abroad. The selection was incredible and the quality was exceptional.

Not just say, take a look.

United KingdomThe window blind fell off in the middle of the night and because of that we were awake by 6am with the light. also at breakfast it was really busy so we didn’t get our 2nd order of coffees.
The hotel was beautiful and the gardens also very nice. The staff was very friendly and kind, the man at reception kept coming to help us with the fire place to keep the leaving room warm.

United KingdomHad to call down twice for robes to be brought to our room for us to go to the spa, spa was TINY and overcrowded with piles of robes and towels where there wasn’t sufficient storage space for people to hang items. Just 4 sunbeds, bar was unmanned, too many people caused a chaotic energy. We stayed in the spa for 10 minutes before leaving which was a shame. With a spa that size you should have to book a slot there, there were way too many people packed into a tiny space. A gorgeous hotel but if you’re looking for a spa break I wouldn’t recommend it.
Room and grounds are stunning, food was divine and breakfast was high quality. Staff were friendly and helpful.
