Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwedenFor me the hardest part was that it was simply way too cold. I'm extremely sensitive to coldness, it's not just a luxury thing for me, but a necessity, that's why I need to come to a place where I don't shiver. That's like maybe the number one thing for me, apart from the access to the bathroom. The central heating wasn't on (it would draw up the very budget-friendly price), so a big room was only heated by a few remote heaters. I was honestly so cold that I had to go around and sleep with a beanie on my head. I always shower while away but I didn't want to do that, didn't want to go out in the freezing air after showering. The bunks beds were comfy but the next bunk starts quite low so I bumped my head into it (staying at the lower one) a lot. There were enough power sockets in the room but they weren't all placed in the wall by the beds. Wi-Fi was barely working (at least in the upper room where we were). There were lockers in the room and there was supposed to be keys for them.. but keys were lost somewhere so we couldn't lock them. Also when we moved a drawer to look for an extra socket - there was a lot of dirt behind it. But important to say - the immediate spaces like the floor and the bathrooms were clean.
This is honestly one of the hardest reviews to make as on one side - this place really had an home atmosphere, a vibe that's hard to put a finger on, it's incredibly budget-friendly and made you feel welcome, cozy and warm in the soul. For many people that will be enough and it presents that little extra that many backpackers look for, for me it wasn't entirely like that as I need to have a certain level of comfort even if staying at a hostel (as opposed to a hotel), there are some checkpoints that have to be met. But at the same time, I have such good memories from this place and I would like to come back - however in the summertime (more about this in the next section). A place that I will actually remember and which made me feel welcome. It's located very near to the city center, a walking distance and good bus connections. The area is nice, the building old and charming. The best part is the common area/kitchen downstairs - yes it is very very small and gets easily crowded. But there's free tea/coffee/hot chocolate available all day long, also occasionally cookies, toasts with jam. A fantastic selection of teas, even Yerba Mate - wow! And then there's a big wooden table with two lond benches and some chairs and a big tv screen. And a fireplace! A real cozy fireplace! The owner of this place, Kevin, is such a charismatic lad, a true Liverpudlian soul, sharing stories, jokes etc. He had many tips abkut events going around, he invited the people when someone was coming to cook food etc. So this is definitely a hostel with a personality!

GermanyThe shower did not have any warm water and was overall very dirty. The beds were also pretty uncomfortable.
The staff was super open and welcoming. The room was bright and large and the house was cozy. The 20min walk to the city center was very picturesque.

United KingdomNothing....it was great!
It was great! I'd read the comments where people had said it was dreadful, so I had a little reservation, however I had no need to worry. I actually arrived a day earlier than I'd booked and Kevin the Host, swapped it over at no extra cost! The room was fab, it was clean and rhe bed was super comfy. They offered free drinks and breakfast, which is a great offer. Please don't be put off at all, its great and one road down to the city cente. Free parking! Will definitely stay again when in Liverpool...many thanks Kevin and team.

United KingdomIt is not so clean and there a just few bathrooms.
It was as I expected. Not very clean but it is a typical hostel with a lot of history. The bed is comfortable and the hosts are super nice. Also, for ten pounds you can do a 2 hours walking tour (the Beatles and history of the city) with the father of one of the hosts which is a lovely person and that has seen the Beatles in their early days more than 50 times!! True Liverpool experience.

ItalyThe only thing that was not to my liking is the cleanliness of the common areas specifically the kitchen is worthy of nightmare kitchens. This is probably due to the fact that not all tenants respect the proper cleaning to be done. The beds are not a great comfort but then again you can't expect too much given the price you are paying.
Hostel with a very Georgian style situated in a great location that allows easy access to very important places in the city. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming people.

Cheap and cheerful with a great bunch of people running the place. They are really fun and also knowledgeable about Liverpool - but they might just talk your leg off !! Also free 24hr tea and toast is a super bonus!

United KingdomRoom was big bunkbeds with about ten people of no personal relations sharing together. No privacy but I supposed the price reflects that.
It was a very friendly atmosphere. The price is affordable if one is desperate for somewhere to crashout overnight with no need for much privacy. No restrictions on individual movements.

Czech RepublicOn the other hand, there were bedbugs. I know it's not always the hostel's fault that bedbugs are there and travelers can bring them from all over the world. However, it is obvious that the stuff are aware of bedbugs and that they are not really doing their best to get rid of the problem. Some bedbug traps can be found under the mattresses, and they have a spray against bedbug bites on hand, but that is obviously not solving the problem, and considering that bedbugs can be a huge pain in the a$$ to get rid of, I would not stay here if I could turn back time. Dear Embassie, I hope you do whatever is necessary to get rid of these pests and you will make the Embassie the best place to stay at in Liverpool.
I find it difficult to write a review for this hostel. On one hand, it is such a wonderful little hostel, in a charming old building in a beautiful Gregorian neighborhood. The staff is so welcoming and nice, and the hospitality is off the charts. The free "breakfast" that you can eat at all times of the day is amazing, and the Colombian coffee is even better. It has a super relaxed atmosphere, and you can immediately feel at home there. And, of course, the price is off the charts. 17 pounds a night is a complete bargain. Of course, the place is not super tidy or clean, but you don't expect that in the first place.

United KingdomNeeds more toilets for both men and women. Didn't like how the men would use the women's showers when theirs was full.
It's everything a hostel should be. Feels like you're stepping into someone's home full of interesting characters from around the world. People were drinking together in the evening, socialising. Think it's a good option if you're travelling on your own as it's easy to get chatting (especially with those who work there).

GermanyThe beds were uncomfortable and loud. Also, the emergency light was really bright. The bathrooms weren't clean and in general the place was really old and you could tell that.
The staff was super friendly and welcoming. I got a lot of recommendations on what to do in the city. There was free breakfast, tea and coffee. But I would not recommend to stay there for a long time.
