How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

I knew by previous reviews that Glendower would not disappoint, but we were both gobsmacked at the all round experience. The breakfast room and breakfast was outstanding, worthy of 5* .{the best we have had ]. Room very good, comfy with everything you would need. Janette and Ian are lovely people. I could go on with this review but will just end by saying to people looking to stay in Torquay, dont bother searching, just book the Glendower.

The property was clean and very comfortable. The hosts could not do enough for you either and were very professional yet warm and welcoming at the same time. A superb place to stay.

The premises and our room were spotless, we had everything we needed and more. The breakfast room/restaurant was nice and comfortable, the food was delicious and they did daily specials. The owners were friendly and helpful with dining out advice and where to visit. Would definitely recommend as great value for money too.

It could do with a little more about disabled facilities.
We liked the house potential. And the Breakfast was lovely the rooms were very clean. I would recommend it to my friend's and family. I would come back again if l need to. And the owners are very helpful. A very family run hotel 🏨🛏️.

Hosts Ian and Janette were excellent, couldn't do enough for us. Comfy, quiet room and a great choice at breakfast. Some cool tunes playing in the background whilst enjoying breakfast was a delight.

Thy room was very hot with the window only being able to open a few inches, although a tower fan was available.
An excellent full English breakfast using local produce. A very good choice of cereals and fresh fruit. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners as they tried to please all dietary requirements..All set in a bro clean dining room.

Absolutely nothing, we loved our stay
What's not to like! A lovely clean, well run, homely stay. The owners were fantastic and took the time to talk to you and welcome you into their home. Breakfast was good and they accommodated as many types of requests as possible. We will definitely be going back.

The proprietor met me on arrival, I advised them I would be late, who gave me tea and a slice of homemade lemon drizzle cake. He also took the trouble to chat with me while I drank it before showing me to the my room.

Friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere. Good communication. Good food (wonderful breakfasts). Lovely space to relax downstairs and outside on the patio. Short walk downhill to the beach. Near to local amenities. Pub on the corner. Shops nearby. Local attraction and information provided. Parking for cars outside Glendower and also on the road directly outside/opposite. Would stay again.
