Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe room was a bit cold . The pub was very scruffy for breakfast. Scratched table and a bit unhygienic looking with casual workers hanging around behind the bar but no person delegated to help guests as people didn’t seem to realise what the generous breakfast deal was
Location was excellent . Staff were friendly and helpful perhaps could have been a bit smarter in their appearance. The room was very clean and quiet. The location is central and interesting with a lot of independent and vintage shops. The breakfast was very ample giving both continental and hot choices in the inclusive deal. The room was very clean and quiet.

United StatesI got confused about the corners you had to take like floor 1 in elevator and how to get to my room from there. Also there is a pub below and it got really loud while we were there because they had some game that week.i had to turn on tv to cut the noise.
The Location was great!

United KingdomCould hear music from pub until early hours although didn't stop me from getting to sleep. Road nose from outside as well. Room was cold - heating was ineffective. They provided a portable oil heater which took over an hour to make any difference. Bathroom tiled floor was like ice.
Great location right in the centre. Next door to a lovely Irish pub. 5 minutes walk from shops castle etc. Lovely large room with nice decor and huge TV. Lovely rainfall shower and large bed and fridge.

United KingdomA slightly bigger room would be great, but for 1 night, it was ok.
Great location 👌🏼 Hotel itself lovely, room we had was cosy, so if you don't mind small space you will like it. Not enough space to do my morning pilates, but i can live with skipping a day✌🏼 We also heard birds in the morning which was nice I wasn't sure if it was my meditation app going on my phone or nature sounds from outside 😆

United KingdomThe room was not ready for the check in time of 3pm, this caused inconvenience. The room was not replenished with toilet paper, clean towels, bed's not made etc. for the second day.
Location was excellent. The room was a good size for 4 people. Beds were comfortable. Tea, coffee and hair dryer provided in the room which was great. It was great that the hotel stored our luggage for the day.

United KingdomBring earplugs if you're a light sleeper... the hotel is adjoined to an Irish pub which hosts live bands late into Friday and Saturday nights (~2am). We didn't mind as it was Hogmanay, but even up on the 2nd floor you could "feel" the noise in the room. We also felt we paid an excessive price given the amenities, even after acknowledging it was Hogmanay - perhaps to take the sting off the higher seasonal price, the Hotel might offer a heavily discounted or free breakfast during that period?
Well-located, clean and comfortable hotel - a great base for a long weekend or, as in our case, celebrating Hogmanay weekend. We liked the bright and modern check-in area, the amenities in the room, and the large and comfortable bed. The location was perfect for exploring Edinburgh: within 15 mins walk of everything central (including the Castle and Royal Mile), and only a 20 min walk to Arthur's Seat.

GermanyEmbra's a city of many hills – and the Grassmarket Hotel is on the other side of one of them if you arrive at Waverley. Don't travel with lots of luggage if you want to stay here, especially if it's a heavy suitcase. The house is old so you still have stairs ahead if you take the lift. Besides – since the pub is basically in the same building as the hotel, it can be quite loud. The walls are thin! So, it depends on your priorities if this is the place for you.
Breakfast was good and the atmosphere in the pub is great. Furthermore, the hotel is situated perfectly underneath the castle, everything is in easy walking distance. And the room was clean and cosy.
