    See above.

Location good however I had to leave a night early for personal reasons. A refund was finally agreed after a lengthy discussion on my part with Booking.com, given by the hotel and then immediately retracted because I hadn’t paid enough originally. I queried that but the computer said I was wrong. When I got home, I found the receipt which showed I was right. I rang the hotel and got my money refunded. However, I was left feeling awful because I felt that the staff and the customers in the bar thought I was trying to defraud them of a nights cost. If the computer had functioned properly in the bar- the screen kept going blank- I might have been spared embarrassment and money would not have shuttled in and out of my account. A pity because up to that point, I had enjoyed my stay. Please note that these comments refer to the booking made by Julia and not for Owen.

The Five Bells was a very comfortable place to stay. It is a spacious, warm and welcoming public house with rooms. Our room was warm. clean and comfortable. We loved the crisp, white cotton bedding and plump pillows. Well stocked tea tray. Lots of parking spaces available. The cooked breakfast was excellent with quality produce.

The entry to the pub has a small stairs to enter, this was a little inconvenient with a big suitcase.

Quiet, good size room, clean towels. Breakfast was a la cart and freshly made. The staff was very friendly and helpfull.

Television did not work at first, but was happily rectified speedily. Bathroom window needs repair, it does not shut or lock.

Restaurant was superb, great food and service. Snug room when your staying on your own.

Nothing really, happy with my food and with the service, and the room.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Got a bit overrun at one point with the number of people coming in and wanting to eat, but overall I thought they did a good job.

On the night I stayed they had a band playing. Although it ended at 10pm it was really loud and as my room was right above the musicians it was not a relaxing evening. Not sure if there were any spare rooms but I wouldn’t recommend putting anyone in the single room 17 again if there is live music downstairs. The whole room vibrated with the noise!

Nice cosy room, nice options for eating in the pub.

Had a bumpy start to our stay when the table I had booked for evening meal was cancelled on the morning of our stay. I checked other pubs in the village but all stopped serving after 5pm. I messaged the property and received a phone call from a staff member who apologised and offered a table at 4.45pm. It was a little early and we had to rearrange our arrangements to make sure we arrived in time but with nowhere else to go and unable to cancel without losing our money we had little choice. When we arrived to check in, a number of people were complaining about their meals which did not fill us with confidence. A couple who had eaten said their meal had been fine and my husband decided to go with their recommendation. Thankfully our meals were OK, pub food, but at least we had no complaints and breakfast was really good. It is an older building but was clean and comfortable. We had secondary glazing in the room which helped. The south African lady who checked us in was very apologetic and helpful. It seems they are having some issues with staff which is impacting on the business.

Our TV didn’t work so asked for another room but they couldn’t accommodate us, as we were working all day on a stand all we wanted to do was to eat and watch Rugby World cup in our room but couldn’t, after speaking to Gen Mgr I got a refund for the one night and as it wasn’t still working the next night we got another refund. Kop Hill was disappointing so we checked out a day early even though I’d paid up front NOT due to hotel, but another day without TV would not have been good.

The ambience, room was nice, location to Kop Hill and decent food choices.

The TV in the single room wasn't working but I was upgraded to another room, which was very good. They are no longer serving food after 6pm on a Sunday. I had to find somewhere else for dinner.

Freindly heloful staff. Very clean throughout. Good location for visiting Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

Comfortable room and lovely decor throughout the inn, We arrived about 6pm on Sunday evening and the kitchen closed at 6pm so we did not get to eat at the Inn but the menu looked good. The inn was happy for us to order a takeaway.
