Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandValue for money wasn't brilliant. We were offered low cost upgrades but that didn't work given that we specifically needed twin beds. The rooms are quite utilitarian for the price, and ours was a little dark as it faced an internal courtyard. There is probably better value to be had in the area, but in fairness the staff and the bar made up for a lot.
Very central, with friendly staff and a great bar. The hotel is within easy walking distance of central Birmingham, and a pleasant walk along the canal to the Utilitia Arena. Staff went out of their way to assist. Our twin room was clean and spacious, with two extremely comfy beds. Lovely and quiet with no traffic noise at all. The bar is excellent - killer cocktails. Local area feels safe even at night, despite the location.

United KingdomAir conditioning in the room didn’t work, came on when it could be bothered and blew minimal air. Room was so hot couldn’t sleep. The tv was constantly turning on and off.didnt report this during the night as it was 1am and wasn’t prepared to move rooms which was suggested by the receptionist in the morning, not helpful.
Rooms are very clean and spacious. Bar and food was great

United KingdomThe breakfast: The cook breakfast wasn’t good. The eggs were all dry , and you had to ask for bake beans if you wanted them. I thought a cooked breakfast came with bake beans.. To us , it looked like the cooked breakfasts had been pre cooked , not fresh: There wasn’t a lot of choice in the buffet They didn’t have any other yogurts apart from pear. Not many people want pear. We waited ages for a staff member to get bread and spread for us. We were so surprised they didn’t have any marmalade too. It was very disappointing. If we stayed again, it would be breakfast somewhere else, as the breakfast in the hotel isn’t cheap , and definitely not worth it.
Location was good. Having the car park next door to hotel was great.

United KingdomDespite noting guests would get a discounted parking rate in the adjacent hotel, I arrived to find this now needs to be pre booked (never the case previously), this should have been made crystal clear in the post booking communication. Despite paying extra for breakfast (against my better judgement as the prices charged are always a rip off), it was possibly the worst breakfast I've ever had in a hotel. Staff were virtually non existent & we couldn't wait to exit and get some half decent food.
Simple check in & nice lobby area which is very spacious.

United KingdomThere was one problem. We had a half board package including breakfact & dinner. When we checked in the receiptionist lady told us that we hadn't booked a table for dinner and asked if we wanted to room services. We said no and asked if we could book a table at 6 pm. She kindly booked a table for us. When we arrived at the restaurant for our dinner, there was no booking. It wasn't a problem as the venue was not busy. We ordered a little more extra above our package and paid it. When we were checking out in the next morning, another receptionlist lady told me that we owed £67, which I had no idea what it was. I asked what the extra was for. She answered that it was for room services. I explained that we did not use any room service. She instantly changed her word and said that it might be for dinner. I explained again that our package included dinner and we paid the extras already at the restaurant. She could not explain exactly why we owed £67. We did not pay anything but it made me feel something suspicious. In the first instance, we should not have been asked to pay anything that we haven't purchased at all. If I did not challenge then we could have paid for what we haven't been serviced. I'm not sure what was the cause of the problem. I had a feeling that the hotel was attempting to charge more. Otherwise, everything else was lovely.
Room, location, breakfast and dinner were all nice.

United KingdomI did note on our booking that our stay coincided with my wife’s birthday. Not expecting any sort of freebie, but some acknowledgement of the occasion would have rendered the experience exceptional. As it was, none was forthcoming, which begs the question - why bother asking?
Good location for Mailbox, 5-minute walk to Broad Street & Brindley Place, 10-minute walk to Utilita Arena (the purpose of our visit), alcohol-free sparkling wine available, nice vibe in the bar at night, lots of choice at breakfast.

United Kingdomfaster breakfast service...the staff are very polite and attentive.
Very good in terms of quality, but unfortunately it was no better than a premier inn or warner break. However the service of the cooked food took too long and unfortunately a premier inn or warner break is better re time.

United KingdomThe location, although extremely central in Birmingham city, is also very awkward to get around when driving, especially, if you are not used to Birmingham city centre roads/traffic. Along with the difficulties of road access, obviously, parking was expensive, but that is probably a given, for where the hotel is located. The spa facilities would have been nicer if they were open at 9am instead of 10am...!
The room we stayed (Deluxe Double) in was much more spacious than what the photos suggested :) The bathroom/shower was extremely good. The staff were helpful. It was also nice to have complimentary use of the spa facilities.

United KingdomWhen checking in, the member of staff who served us didn't tell us where to find the lifts, if we wanted to add breakfast to our stay, where the spa was & what time it was open/if we wanted to book treatments. For a hotel of this level, there wasn't any complementary bottles of water in the room or a fridge to keep anything cold/fresh. One of the taps in the room was leaking & had a constant pool of water around it - we were in a rush & didn't have chance to report this to reception. One of the towels was dirty, but luckily my friend ended up travelling home the same evening & didn't stay overnight, so I used the spare from the wardrobe. The chair in the room was ripped on one side & exposing the foam. A lot of hairs in the bathroom. The café/Starbucks coffee shop was shop before 5pm which seemed odd.
The hotel was in a great location, as we were watching a show at the Town Hall (7min walk). It's connected to The Mailbox, so we had a lot of choice for restaurants & bars. The bed was extremely comfortable, I rarely sleep well away from home and I had a good night's sleep.

United KingdomBreakfast was a BIG let-down. No buffet, but still had to make our own toast. We waited nearly half an hour after ordering for it to arrive, after chasing. When it did, everything was cold and hard. Bacon and Black Pudding were solid, like cardboard. We ordered fried eggs, which were more like hard-boiled, the yolks were like bullets! A single SMALL mushroom and very small half-tomato finished the plate, which looked empty. Certainly not worth anywhere near the £21 fee each. We complained as checking out, and were offered an apology, but no money off. I will be complaining further.
Very comfortable room, upgraded to a suite. VERY quiet, especially as there was a big party in the brasserie. Staff very friendly.

Saudi ArabiaStaff unhelpful regarding the car park ticket informing us we needed to book in advance to get the hotel discount. The car park is within the The mailbox building along with the hotel but unless you pre arrange the parking you will not receive their discount for a 24 hour stay. This is not how customer service should be and the discount should be arranged by the hotel not the guest. They have your booking and should offer this discount regardless or not at all.
