This is not a 4 star hotel. For a start the information clearly mentions a towel radiator in each room. Ours had one with the plug cut off. The tiles next to the toilet were all blown and could fall off at any time. The staff are very friendly but clueless. The chap who served us at dinner was lovely but clearly needed training and had been basically left to fend for himself. It took 45 minutes before we were asked if we'd like coffee after our dinner - apparently clearing the dinning room was more important. . The hotel has recently changed hands and apparently they are aware that there are issues- well they have a long way to go.

The 1960's extension part needed good refurbishment-new double glazed windows, new corridor flooring and new external paint job. Realise this is an old long established hotel which is trying to improve.

Room was pleasant but could have had a few pictures. The rear door to the pool area had no door lock so was 'OPEN'

No lift! When going up flights of steps with suit bag, suitcase, bag and handbag then trying to open a fire door at the top step and having to back step down three steps with bags so I could open the door and struggle to get through it was dangerous.

Breakfast was adequate. It was very difficult, taking the lids off the hot plate to get your food with a plate in your hand and nowhere to put anything!

Our room was located in an annex, meaning it was quite some distance from the main areas of the hotel. The décor was quite dated and would benefit from refurbishment. The only negative though from an otherwise enjoyable stay.

We travelled to this hotel specifically for the outdoor spring fed swimming pool, which certainly didn't disappoint. The pool lifeguards were really helpful and informative and we were even able to use the pool facilities prior to check-in. It was also a nice surprise to have a cooked breakfast, as the booking information stated that the hotel only provided continental breakfasts.

The odd upkeep on the buildings we were staying in with the balconies. The roads leading up to hotel full of potholes.

Breakfast was great. The rooms were clean and beds were comfy. Staff were always very polite amd helpful. The views from balconies gorgeous the pool grass and seating areas all well maintained and clean.

Have just looked to book again and the prices have doubled for all year . So disappointed.

The pool is lovely, please don’t change anything! Fire alarm at 1 am wasn’t great . Breakfast was average. Really nice relaxing and chilled atmosphere, nice friendly staff.

The bedroom and bathroom were very clean and spacious. There’s a nice bar on site open until 11pm. Really enjoyed our stay also walking distance to Matlock bath. The staff were also very welcoming and helpful.

Awful and chaotic restaurant service. Small menu but not all choices available. No olives or appropriate snacks whilst we waited 90 mins for any food. Just 2 bags of crisps (!?). Food poor to average

Clean room v comfy bed. Helpful staff who seemed overwhelmed by what might be thought of as a busy Friday night service. Bar manager did give us a bottle of wine on house though.

The building is an antique so there are a few things which aren’t modernised or kept up to date as much as in other hotels. The window in our room had a broken latch and the general maintenance upkeep was a little lower, mainly things like scuffed walls and worn out carpets. But nothing major.

The staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean and spacious. The lido pool was very special, the lifeguard in duty was so friendly and helpful and explained the history behind the pool and how it worked. Overall a really nice stay.

Bit disappointed with the spa facilities. The jacuzzi wasn't very clean and the sauna and steam room weren't on to start with .Also facilities nit large enough to accommodate more than 5 people at any one time.There were 8 people there when we were there.Also no warning beforehand that the treatment room was for 2 people so a bit surprised having to have a treatment with my friend.

Long way to walk to room 77 carrying suitcases upstairs & through loads of doors. Also the room was only set up for two guests despite us booking for 4 people, so only two bath towels, 2 glasses, 2 biscuits etc. We were disappointed that our children couldn’t use the spa & swimming pool.

Lack of thought on how guest using the Lido can dry their wet suits/ bathing costumes etc & extra towels. No warm area to get changed by pool & no hot drinks available by pool. Steps up to pool lethal with magnolia blossom on them in rain. Had a wedding at the hotel on the Friday & breakfast Saturday was chaos. Most things ran out & 'scrambled egg's was more like broken up greasy omelette.

It is slightly outside of the town, and a good base for walking. We also used the Lido while we were there which was good. Room of premier inn standard. Good.

When checking in the receptionist told us the breakfast times so went in the morning to find out that they only do cooked breakfast till 9.30 at the weekend and we got there at 9.45 so ended up just having cereal not happy but not one for complaining

The only thing I would complain about would be the pillows weren’t very good. So I would recommend taking your own for a good night sleep.

We really liked the location of the Hotel, it is in a beautiful setting. They have great space for kids to place outside. Bedroom was clean, clean bedding. Great Wi-if. Will definitely return but will bring my own pillows 😊
