Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWhat I didn’t like was the awful smell from the shower trap. It was revolting and permeated the whole room. I told two staff members. The spa needs to be more accessible for people, like me, with mobility problems. There needs to be handrails where there are steps, eg to the showers and the jacuzzi. Also the relaxing beds by the pool are too low. They’d be much better with waterproof mattresses on.
The accessible room was very comfortable. The staff are very helpful and the breakfast was the best vegetarian breakfast I’d ever had.

IrelandCheeky floors, but to be expected in such an old building. Spa is not within the building and rather, across
Staff were accommodating and attentive at meals. Happy to extend check out time as I had a spa treatment books which concluded close to checkout time. Gave me a few snacks leaving which was a nice touch.

MexicoIn the first room we were given, the window was letting wind and rainwater in. The staff were quick to move us to another room. However, the new room was uncomfortably hot during the night, even though we turned the radiator off. There seemed to very some warm pipes under the floor(?). We couldn’t leave the window open to cool the room down because it was a sash window that rattled noisily in the wind. So overall we didn’t sleep well. Windows in the restaurant were historic and beautiful but draughty. We thought it was priced a bit too high, especially given these issues.
Lively Christmas atmosphere, beautiful historic building. nice and proactive staff.

United KingdomRestaurant mediocre, smashed avocado at breakfast was bought in guacamole (sludge coloured a tasted processed), poached eggs tasted of vinegar, natural yogurt was “odd” thick and claggy. Requested a plain smoked salmon sandwich just on buttered whole meal with lemon. Got a generous amount of salmon but they’d slathered it with mayonnaise as well as butter and served chips on the side.
Staff were engaging and helpful. Spa, open to public, busy, but good facilities. Building quirky.

United KingdomCould trim some more of the trees to improve the lovely view from the terrace.
Reception staff were really welcoming, which continued with other staff. The building is very impressive with its historic features, but the facilities were all very good and modern, especially alongside the lovely spa and gym. Food was fab. Wonderful massage!

United KingdomWhen we didn't want to eat from the " pretentious " menu we were offered the Alfresco menu which was good however we were then informed we couldn't eat in the restaurant! we were offered the Library or Bar area where the tables were not suitable to the chair height for dining. If the weather had been ok then Alfresco seating area would have been fine but it was raining and considering the restaurant wasn't busy we were annoyed at having to sit in these areas I paid £450 for the room and a further £110 on food and drink......Not value for money and will not recommend.
Breakfast was good, room was nice and clean, evening meal was okay, onion rings over cooked though. The spa was okay but nothing special.

United KingdomAs we were spending, sadly, little time at the hotel, we booked a cosy room. The size and description were fair but we compared the room to an average 3 star. I’m sure the soft furnishings and finish of the room could be better. Whilst the building of the hotel is stunning, I felt the decor was a little flat and dull - I am being critical.
The welcome and attitude of the staff, excellent!

United KingdomAir conditioning poor, bath in our room quite tricky to get in and out of due to bathroom layout and hand rail in the bath to "help" was in the way so I banged my funny bone on it twice. Spa nothing special - good for a hotel guest or health club member but not necessarily a special occasion spa day in terms of the luxuriousness of it.
Breakfast excellent, comfortable bed, bath robes, fan in the room, exterior of building spectacular and grand/impressive in the entrance, balcony, library. Terrace and grounds were beautiful. Suite on top floor had fantastic roof terrace with nice views. Spa facilities pleasant and afternoon tea in spa lovely - nice relaxation area with hot and cold drinks, very good treatments. Good parking provision. Located within a few minutes drive of lots of pubs in either direction.
