Friendly reception on arrival. Lots of information. Room was clean with crisp decor as was whole hotel. Superb cooked breakfast, nothing was to much bother for waitress. Bathroom had instant hot water. Tabs on toilet rolls.

Friendly welcome at check-in. Bar facility and light menu served up to 8pm - food and drink very good and excellent value. Rooms are very comfortable and spacious with high ceilings, Hotel is very nicely presented. Plenty of safe off-road parking. Breakfast was excellent, table service, lots of choice, nothing too much trouble for the staff. Very good all round, it was pity to only stay for one night.

The property was elegant and nicely appointed. Our room was comfortable with a lovely roomy bathroom.On arrival we enjoyed a tasty snack and the waitress was pleasant and helpful despite the fact that they had finished serving food.The receptionists carried our cases to the room(. MY husband is disabled) Upon request a fan was produced and our windows were opened making the boiling hot night more agreeable.Altogether we spent a very pleasant night at this property.

Evening meals are not offered but we understand we could have had a snack, such as sandwiches, if we'd ordered ahead. It is a very quiet environment without any night lighting, so quite a change for a townie. The bathroom was adequate but could be updated.

The room was an adequate size, clean and comfortable. Staff were pleasant and efficient. There was plenty of parking onsite. Breakfast was cooked to order and good quality. The location was very good, and would make a good base for exploring Shrewsbury.

Being a very old building, we didn't expect the bedrooms to be particularly modern, but the bathroom in particular could benefit from a bit of an upgrade.

The Old Rectory is a fine, as it says on the tin "Old" building, in large grounds. As they don't serve evening meals, and we didn't fancy walking around Wem in the rain to find an alternative, we opted for their small bar menu. We were not disappointed - the food was excellent, and that and the wine were both very reasonably priced. Breakfast was superb - good selection, and I have to say that my full English was one of the best I have had in a hotel in recent years.

After a long drive for work I was met by a very welcoming member of staff. Nothing was too much trouble for her, she showed me to my room and helped me arrange something to eat for dinner. As a female who often travels for work it was refreshing to have someone genuinely care that my stay in their hotel would be a wonderful experience. Breakfast was excellent, the staff were very friendly and I didn't wait long to be served breakfast. I would highly recommend this hotel.
