Lovely hotel in a central area to explore Buxton
    • Leisure trip

    • Standard Double Room
    • Stayed 4 nights

Rooms not checked every day (you had to request this). On occasion there was a long wait for courses at dinner( half an hour wait for dessert one evening. Menu was repeated after three nights.

Room was very spacious and clean. Breakfast buffet was excellent.

Breakfast left a little to be desired, bacon under cooked, sausage left in water and quite limited in choice for cooked breakfast items. Found it very difficult to get to sleep on the mattress that made a noise Everytime I moved and floorboards outside of the room made a very loud noise from people walking past who also continually let their doors slam until past 11pm. Group booking were quite inconsiderate to others in the hotel and made most of the noise. Floorboards in main dining room had diners moving as people walked past tables. Paid for a small double room and was place in a twin room!

Evening meal and service was fantastic. Location perfect. Stunning from outside. Service staff could not be faulted. Worth their weight in gold. Bathroom was a great size, room was clean even though not the type of room I paid for. Great little touches like the biscuits and toiletries.

Only one towel in the room between two people. Floor boards make a lot of noise so you can hear the people above move in the night/early morning.

Good value for money, room was spacious.

Room freezing. Apparently issues with heating and all heaters had been given out. Had to relocate rooms. Then remote control wouldn't turn the TV on and off. We then couldn't access our new room with the key card. Spent quite a bit of time at reception trying to sort things. Plus I didn't expect the £5 parking charge for the car park.

The location, beautiful setting and hotel. Very clean. Good value for money. Stunning building. Close to the centre. Gorgeous rooms. So decorative and traditional. Really lovely.

Just personal preference, but the pool was icy (which is acceptable outside in natural environment, but not between damp walls and spookily drafughty changing rooms. Door to room would not lock and tap water in bathroom confusig and unsafe.

Two of the staff were kind, helpful, efficient and pleasant and some facilities.. such as lounge area.

Cleanliness - which was although maintained throughout the room, I did find a couple of stains in the duvet towards the end which was the only inconvenience I would say.

We made a spontaneous booking on the day so we were glad to have found this hotel in the first place which was a perfect b&b for our needs. Staff was very nice and polite. The location is great, accessible to supermarkets and market nearby (although the supermarkets close pretty early so we drove to a Tesco express at about 10-mins drive from the hotel for our snack needs). There is ample parking space although gets full into the evening and is chargeable (£5/night). The hotel is very old and rustic with beautiful architecture and very pleasant pieces of art around. The age of the building explains the old-fashioned rooms and compact size of the room (even though we booked a standard room). For the price, I would say it was a good deal as there was nothing wrong with the amenities we got. Did not opt for breakfast so wouldn’t be able to rate it. All in one line - I would say it was a comfortable and cosy stay at the Palace Hotel and would come back for a good deal. Bonus point: The reception was lovely with large ceilings and a chandelier which makes for a nice picture-worthy spot.

Great hotel, bit dated but I quite liked it. Spoiled by petty little things.

It was very petty, which soured the whole stay. I made two separate bookings. The first was two nights for myself, the second was one night in a twin room with my son. I kept the same room for both bookings but I wasn't allowed to check in for both on arrival, had to check in twice. I put in a request for my room to be cleaned after the two nights (between bookings). I went to collect my son from his residential, and came back in the evening to find they "forgot" to clean the room. I then asked for an additional bottle of water and some tea/milk sachets and they refused, saying you only got one water in your room on check in. I explained that this was a new check in with an additional person, but they still argued, despite having made me check in again for the second booking. Also the breakfast only has instant coffee sachets, no actual coffee. Slippery steps up to tiny sauna are covered in mould on the walls. These are such tiny things to resolve, so disappointing.

Location was excellent, and I particularly enjoyed using the pool.

There was a door in the bathroom leading out to the rooftop. However, there was no lock on this door and it blew open in the nice despite being latched. We also had an issue with our room key card which stopped working. Staff at reception were helpful at sorting this, however, it was slightly worrying that no verification was required to obtain a replacement key for our room. It was taken by surprise when we received a knock on the door indicating that we should leave the room despite it being 10 minutes prior to the check out time.

Location was perfect. Nice building. View from the room was nice. Easy access to amenities. Breakfast was lovely - nice variety of choice. Nice decoration in room. Bed was comfortable. Rooms were very soundproof. Nice complementaries.

Disappointing you couldn't order food from the bar menu in the restaurant. Restaurant had limited menu and seating in the bar was awkward to eat a meal from. The pool was not open at all during our 4 day stay. Paying for parking and WiFi was also a negative.

Room was clean and a good size. Location was excellent.

Being given keys to a room which was already occupied. We could have walked in on anything - very disappointing. Had to go back to Reception to sort it out and get another room. Young lady on reception had no customer skills. Even when we handed the key in she did not ask if we had a good stay or even a thank you. Breakfast room on Sunday morning was chaos - clearly very under staffed. They did their best, but should have had more staff on. We had to wait in a 20 minute queue to even get in the breakfast room as they were struggling clearing tables etc. Though the breakfast itself was absolutely fine. On Monday morning it was fine with no queue - so definitely need the extra staff on at the weekend.

Location was excellent. Lovely bar and reception area. The fireside seats in the bar were really comfortable - nice and relaxing. 2 members of the reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

The steps leading down from the entrance were never lit at night. The steps are badly broken and some are loose. We had to use a torch to make our way down. There are lights on the steps, but they're never switched on.That really is an important omission and a health and safety issue. The building is absolutely stunning and the decoration has been done sensitively. It's just a shame there are so many plastic plants around, it really does.lower the tone of the hotel. It would be far better to have fewer of them and maybe mix them with a few living parlour palms, like they would have had in victorian times.

The breakfast was adequate. It would be nice to see some scrambled egg rather than just fried. Also some fresh fruit salad rather than tinned fruits and granola as a cereal option.
