The hotel looks very tired in parts and is in need of refurbishment.

The hotel was warm this visit and much more comfortable as a result. The food was good and the staff were excellent. So friendly and welcoming. They remembered me from a previous visit and the receptionist went out of her way to make this stay a really positive experience.

Not a complaint only a recommendation.....Only had 1 bath towel per person - a hand towel too would be nice for hair washing but I am sure if we had asked, we one would have been provided. Breakfast was a limited buffet, OK if you want warm & cold food but a bit pricey if you just want a coffee & cereal.

Good value for money, good location with ample free parking, spacious room with good facilities. The bedroom was not the most up to date in decor or furnishings but that is of no consequence to us. The bedding and towels were new and of very good quality.

A big hotel which it's easy to get lost in. Could benefit from a few more signs on the corridors.

All the staff we met were very welcoming, particularly to our young children. Due to it being an older hotel we expected it to feel quite tired but our room was in good condition and features like the sash windows gave it character. We had a large room for our family of 4. Breakfast was a standard buffet, with plenty of choice.

Building is showing its age, there's quite a bit of cosmetic work that needs to be done on the hotel.

People were lovely, and obviously keen to make a good impression. Had dinner, all went well. Room was warm and comfy (November)

I would have expected breakfast as part of the price I paid. I also tried to contact the hotel by phone and email to say I would be a later check in but no one answered the phone despite trying several times, nor responded to my email.

Unfortunately not a 4* property, bathroom had a mouldy roof and the room needed some tlc.

We drove down from Scotland that day & arrived around 30 mins early for check in.. We had our dog with us- weather was cold, windy & wet.. Receptionist Amelia wasn't very happy to see us, instead of checking if our room was available in order to offer early check in she said we'd have to come back in 30 mins.. After hearing this I was quite taken by her attittude, I asked her if there was anywhere we could wait, she blankly said we could wait in hotel bar Butler's.. To be honest, due to my greeting we opted to drive around for a while instead.. In my opinion this welcome put a negative slant on our arrival here.. Very unwelcoming first impression by a receptionist !! All other staff members we encountered were very approachable, professional & upbeat.. Shame she let her team down.

A couple of things still need updating but I am sure they are on an ever growing list. Old properties are always springing leaks like the one in the corner of our bedroom. Or someone could have had an accident in the bathroom above. Accidents do happen
