Perfect and calm stay in the city center near the coast

    Nothing everything was perfect.

I traveled during off-season but it was really easy to park (I was able to park infont the hotel) Personel at the desk was very helpful. The room was very comfortable, clean and calm. It is possible to eat in the restaurant and have a drink in the bar. The breafast was very varied and good. Not far away from the beach (5 min walk)

Dirty toilet. The skylight in the bathroom had no way to cover it. Highly unlikely anybody would be able to see in, but it did make me feel a bit self conscious. The town centre location meant parking was an issue.

Pleasant staff and very nice food at a good price.

Not so much a dislike, more a maintenance thing. The window in the bathroom opened but nothing to keep it open. and It dropped very heavily. Wouldn't like to get your fingers in the way. The bedroom window jam open but you had to rock it to close it. The door squeaked when opening or closing it and most importantly lol,,, the tv remote didn't work .

The booking in was quick and easy. The receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. Loved the original features of the building. Really appreciate seeing how the other half used to live back in the day. My room was on the second floor. Very easy to find due to the signage. It was a single bed with shower over bath. The usual customary shower and hand gels, Also a hairdryer tucked away in a drawer.

....the lack of the little but essential items in the bathroom...a shelf or small table to place toiletries on....the sash windows need to be more easily opened in the room that we had...

Breakfast choice is excellent and the staff very helpful....kind, considerate , professional and cheerful....central location...

Room was above the kitchen it seems going by the dish washing etc but wasn’t as issue for me as I was awake early but might be for some.

Really close to the centre, friendly staff, old style feel with the library room and lounge. Breakfast was nice and server was chatty and helpful.

Paintwork in room was slightly tired. Shower screen was inadequate.

Nice big room, comfortable. Bar meal was nice. Breakfast was varied and plentiful, but hot food pre-prepared and on hot plates, so not as good as freshly cooked.

Had booked 3 triple rooms but they gave 2 double rooms for one of triple room on the 1st day of stay. Breakfast times should be increased to at least 10 am its only till 9 AM currently. They have dinner serving times only till 7 PM and also dont allow to have take away order in their dinning area. But good that they provided plates and cutlery.

    Breakfast had many good options

The buffet breakfast was excellent and set me up for the day. Bar staff were personable and chatty plus bar prices were good and a reasonable choice of beers. The hotel is centrally sited and you can walk to the beach or railway station in less than 10 minutes.

Sadly the Breakfast buffet offering of fried eggs weren’t the best. Day one the fried eggs were presented in a large electric frying pan, which must have been left on high heat as the eggs were all way over cooked and stuck burnt fast to the pan! Day 2 the eggs were again in this electric pan, this time they were perfectly cooked, but stone cold as the pan must have been off. Think a new pan should be sought for the fried eggs. Apart from eggs the choice of hot cooked items such as bacon, sausages, mushrooms, beans etc was decent. Plenty choice for those who prefer a continental breakfast too. Personally, both myself and my husband found the coffee dire though as left in a large coffee jug to help yourselves from as there is no proper coffee machine, which these days is very unusual.

We upgraded our room direct with hotel for one of their superior garden wing rooms, this was well worth the additional £30 paid. Room was in a separate building in hotel garden, which is set back from the Main Street and very peaceful. Only draw back was you had to eat in hotel dining room for breakfast, which is in a separate building through garden which is fine if weather is good, but no so good in the pouring rain like we had. Luckily though it’s only a short walk away! Still worth it. Room was lovely. Hotel is on Princes Street which is a good location for nearby restaurant choices and pubs. Not too far from anywhere in Thurso. Staff are all extremely helpful and welcoming too.
