Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe bedrooms could be doing with some updating, in particular the electrical points and charging points for phones. Also our room has no full size mirrors.
The Bistro @ The Potting Shed was outstanding, food was amazing and will definitely return. The hotel is very cosy, relaxing and chilled, with some beautiful period rooms. Lovely

United KingdomThe rooms are a little tired, but somehow this contributes to the hotel's charm. This is an old, family-run business, which hasn't sold out to a chain, so it's quirky and has lots of character.
Love this family-run hotel - it's straight out of a fairy tale. The 17th century building is quaint and charming with elegant, yet cozy public rooms to relax in, where drinks / a delicious afternoon tea can can be enjoyed. Friendly staff make you feel welcome from arrival. The grounds are gorgeous with a walled garden, river and peacocks on site (just beware of the midges at night!). You can easily while away a whole day at the hotel, appreciating the charm and beauty of it all.

United KingdomThere was a very handsome peacock who tried to get through the window! Dogs not impressed!
I had read the reviews and quite a few people it was tired and needed some TLC! It does, but it doesn’t affect the charm and calmness of the hotel. Lovely crisp bedding and a very nice sized room. Delicious dinner in the garden room served by a lovely waitress. Fab grounds to walk the dogs which they loved. Beautiful stretch of river. A lovely surprise after a long drive from Isle of Harris.

United KingdomA bit tired in places- needs freshening and outside window frames repaired. The Potting Shed Bistro could do better with lunches with just little tweeks in keeping with the hotel meal standards and unique grounds e.g. a brown bread sandwich could have lovely artisan bread and home made dressing.
History and character.

United KingdomToilet flush was not good when we arrived but resolved by the hotel. The Potting Shed menu was quite basic. Stairs were more difficult to negotiate with luggage and the doors were low - this is due to the age of the building, which does have character accordingly.
Comfortable room, good surroundings and pleasant, helpful staff. Breakfast was excellent. Potting Shed food was good.

CanadaBreakfast was the only meal we had, but both of them, were arguably the best experience in three weeks. No shortcuts: butter not in little foil packets, wonderful dark marmalade not in the little jars, best black pudding, perfect porridge, etc. Taryn and Barnaby were extremely attentive and caring and gave us wonderful service. I loved the heated floor at the shower's entrance!

United KingdomI like to browse drinks lists & cocktail menus, when I’m away, maybe try something different or treat myself to a fancy cocktail, but hotel only has a wine list. I asked for a drinks list then, in the evening a cocktail list and was told, no, we only have a wine list - maybe fed up with people asking! We didn’t even know how much our drinks cost, until we checked out, as there are no prices displayed, either. I presumed the drink we had with our canapés was included, but they were on our bill! I thought bars/hotels had to display drinks prices, by law. There are also no wine or drinks menus online - I wanted to gauge prices & see if they offered cocktails - prices are obviously a closely, guarded, secret!
Lovely grounds, right on the banks of the river Teith. The potting shed bistro, will be lovely in summer, it was pouring! Property was a Roman camp (under the river) & a 16th century shooting lodge, it’s styled as such. Dinner & breakfast we’re very good. Carpets & some furniture were a bit tired, but the upkeep of such an ancient hotel & vast grounds/gardens must be huge.

United KingdomThe Potting Shed meal wasn't up to the standards of the restaurant but then it's not as expensive.
We were upgraded as the hotel restaurant was closed the first night so we had a large room. Breakfast was as good as ever and we had an excellent meal on the second night.
