Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAlthough our room was OK, I chose the deluxe room, which I feel wasn't the correct terminology for the room we got. The checkout could've been later. However, I understand it being that time due to checking in time.
The owner was very polite and friendly. Amazing common room with plenty of space. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The owner acted promptly when I put in a request. Plenty different cerals and jams, marmalade etc and had non dairy milks which is quite uncommon so was very pleased with that. Had an enjoyable time 😊

AustraliaKitchen was a little dirty but serviceable. Clearly some travellers expect everything to be done for them rather than cleaning up after themselves.
Convenient location, friendly owners, cheap, good range of food for breakfast. It's a hostel not a hotel and as a hostel it provides a good service.

United KingdomThe kitchen could have been better labelled and it took me ages to locate the bin which was full. There was a rather random range of equipment in the kitchen but it was all working so not really a problem.
It is a very basic backpackers hostel but it was clean, had a comfortable bed and a good shower. It was a simple place to spend the night and I met some lovely people who were also staying there.

United Kingdomthe shared facilities were not as clean as I’d have liked. However, it could have been a lot worse.
it’s good for what it is. you have what you need in the room and it’s generally clean. it’s a good central location but not on the main road.

United KingdomThere were areas of the room that could use a wipe. Personally being quite tall (6ft4) the bed and bedding was not quite long enough -not something that can usually be helped wherever i stay. The bathroom light took a few minutes to settle down, not a problem for me as such but if i was epileptic it would be a problem - felt like being in a rave room with strobe lighting for the first few minutes. Unfortunately our room was ground floor level, and outside the room was a taxi rank-and being a Saturday night it was not particularly quiet in the early hours, for a period of about 1-2 hours. (Again not the hostels fault as such)
The hostel was available for a last minute booking and were able to accommodate our evening arrival. 10/10 We stayed in a private twin room which was ensuite, it was of a good size and more than adequate for the crash and dash purposes we were looking for. 9/10 This is a hostel, and at a fairly low price so we were not expecting the ritz, the sheets had been washed (although there was a small stain of ink at the foot of the bed - not where i was laying). The main space of the room clean, (windowsill and other non useable areas couldve used a wipe). 6/10 There was hot water in the shower, and a decent space in the ensuite, and no strange plumbing noises. Although the ensuite was a little tired and grubby around the edges 8/10 Breakfast was continental help yourself, perfect for our stay 9/10. The hostel manager was very polite and helpful 10/10. Overall a decent experience and would use again for the purposes of crash and dash.

United KingdomI didn’t really dislike anything.
It was central, cheap and convenient for a one night stay with a dog compared to other pet friendly accommodation in the area. There was WiFi and a TV in the room and a common dining room/kitchen which had an excellent stock of breakfast food and very well stocked fridges. Excellent chippy across the road, five minute walk to the beach.

New ZealandI had a private room on the ground floor, with a window facing out onto the street, It was mostly quiet at nigh apart form occasional traffic. Had to call the hostel on arrival and was met by the host, who showed me around everything. The kitchen upstairs was well setup and the included breakfast was great, Towels available. Popular fish and chips place across the road. Bus to John O'Groats leaves from the top of the road a minute away. Train station was 5-10 minutes walk
