Being an old property, hearing the person upstairs getting up at hourly intervals for a wee from 4am was tiring! I think the poor ceiling/floor insulation is reflected in the cheap accommodation cost though.

We stayed in Room 6 outside in the courtyard. Lovely room with very comfortable bed and decent sized shower. Staff were professional, helpful and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed both our evening meal and fabulous breakfast. Excellent food.

Wash basins taps hard to shut off fully. Would have liked a window that could be opened.

Cold water to the sink had an intermittent problem resulting in being hot early in the evening!! Although quiet room requested, we were located on the front of the hotel and suffered from traffic noise and some revellers

Stair carpets worn badly

I had room 9, I thought it was great, not sure of the other rooms but I liked the one I was put in., the food was excellent. The staff where great, they where rushed under with about 20 school teachers turning up for end of term drink (bash), even so they made time.

Toilet seat too low. No opening windows in the room and was very warm, put fan on to cool down, too loud, opened door but felt unsafe. This really needs addressing.

The blinds didn't really block out any light and considering its on the main high street I would prefer something a little more opaque. Parking is minimal but good if you can get it

The quality of the furnishings and decor was poor. The one chair had a weak back so, unless one wanted to lounge, it was unconfortable. The shade was broken in my room, so not only could I not get it dark, but it was on the street side and so people could theoretically see in when the lights were on. Charlotte did a lot to make up for it. Unfortauntely, the first solution was to move me to a room where only the door could be opened for air (bathroom window was just a pane of glass), and there were beard hairs all over the sink. It was rather disgusting. I got moved back to the first room and a blanket put over the shade. That worked ok. But a bit of hassle at 10 o'clock at night. The management staff unfortunately had that attitude of an answer for every comment by the guest, which leaves one feeling unheard and rather like trying to talk to a wall. Perhaps the managment should learn from thier staff people! There is a lot of room for improvement, and it should not rely on the interpersonal skills of a single person to give guests some kind of satisfaction. Finally, it has been a long time since I have seen a breakfast buffet without a single piece of fruit on offer, not even a basket of apples and mandarins.

One staff person, Charlotte, who attended to the many problems, was very helpful and solution-oriented. The carpet was excellent - nice wool carpet. Sounds silly, but the one chair was uncomfortable so I sat on the floor. From the menu choices for breakfast, the avacado-poached egg dish was delicious.

Noisy from above in terms of hearing walking about and murmuring. Not sure if insulation possible.
