Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe entrance lobby can be a bit congested if a larger group arrives complete with luggage. There are luggage trolleys and staff on hand to assist.
It’s an older property in the New Town and its style reflects its history. This is our second visit and we’d definitely stay again. Rooms are exceptionally well appointed and equipped with modern conveniences, such as USB ports, free WiFi and an Nespresso machine, without affecting its traditional style. Bed was very comfortable and we were lucky to be upgraded from a deluxe room to a junior suite, which was spacious with lovely views out over the Forth to Fife. Thank you for the handmade chocolates! All staff are polite and smart. Breakfast was excellent and very fresh. There’s parking immediately behind the hotel, which at £20 for 24 hours’ parking is an excellent and useful commodity in central Edinburgh.

Little touches that made you feel valued. And the staff couldn’t be more helpful. Location is ideal, not far to walk to rose street, and princes street. Only a bit further to the royal mile. But out of the way enough that it’s nice and quiet.

United KingdomNot an issue with The Bonham but with Booking.com: the room's pictures on booking.com are not accurate and did not reflect the actual room size. I booked a 'Superior King', but the images seem to be of the suites (can't confirm). Overall I do recommend checking directly with the property before booking.
The location is in a very nice and clean area of Edinburgh. It's close to Princes Street and bus routes are very accessible. The property itself is gorgeous and provides a wonderful experience with original features. The room was comfortable with beautiful views over the Firth of Forth. Staff were friendly and attentive. It's a fabulous place for special occasions and I would definitely stay here again.

United StatesOne negative, which is why they don't get a 10 rating, is that my husband requested oats (porridge in UK terms) without milk as he is lactose intolerant. They confirmed the oats was cooked with water only and brought us a requested cup of warm soy milk. However, later in the day, hubby had a reaction so there was definitely milk in the cereal. We have however come to realize that food producers manufacture the dry oats with skimmed milk powder, so it was quite possible the hotel cooked the oats in water; just that the oats itself had milk which they may not be aware. This is a warning to check all labels although the hospitality industry in the UK is quite good at requesting information on allergies, they need to be aware of the ingredients the food products not just how they prepare the meals.
Service was friendly, quick and efficient. There was a wide selection of offers at the breakfast buffet. We ate in the lounge area which was cozy and comfortable. I could image this room in winter with the fireplace on. I felt like I was in the 1800s with 21st century conveniences. Our room was well lit with sufficient electrical outlets. The amenities, from cookies on the pillows, to quality soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. The bed was comfortable and the room temperature (for a cold wet and windy early spring day) was more comfortable than the other 5-star high end hotels we stayed in. The neighborhood was lovely and invited walking, unfortunately we were only there for one night and it was too windy to go exploring. However, the hotel is within walking distance to the city center.

United KingdomThe hotel private car parking charges in addition to the hotel room fee, most of the hotels I’ve stayed at do not charge the guest an extra fee to park in the hotel car park. There was nowhere to park locally that we could find and it was a bit of luck to get a space in the hotel car park as it was very busy. However the car park was tidy, secure and well maintained.
The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff were very helpful. The vegetarian breakfast was delicious and very filling. The hotel is close enough to walk to most places but far enough away to avoid noise and crowds. I really enjoyed my stay.

Great stay! Staff was exceptional, helpful and friendly. Room was very comfortable, modern and clean. The location is perfect- on a very quiet block yet close to many things. We did a lot of walking. Common areas, bar and dining room are all very attractive, "fancy" furnishings. We highly recommend this hotel!
