Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAs above but the £10 charge per night for parking is outrageous. You wouldn't pay that in a top notch hotel! We also found the £15 breakfast charge too much. I can't eat a cooked breakfast and my husband has just eggs, beans, tomatoes and mushrooms so we didn't purchase a breakfast at the Portland.
The room was very comfortable, tastefully decorated and warm but we found the bedside tables a nuisance. They were very small with a big table lamp stuck on top. This was inconvenient as we needed to put tablets, clocks, water etc on the table. I put mine on the floor put we needed to leave the other one as a bedtime switch off . The hotel had romantic memories for us, being where we met almost 60 years ago! It was convenient for where we wanted to go.

We did not have breakfast. The location was much closer for us and plan to return later in the year. The room and especially the bed was first class.

United KingdomWould have preferred a drinking area prior to eating. The whole space is the dining room which was fine but it was quite busy and a tad noisy which isn't the end of the world but it would have been appreciated by us. There was a singer performing which we didn't know about before we booked. She was OK but not something we personally enjoy whilst eating. My husband is a real ale drinker so the selection of beer was disappointing for him but he was relieved to see Peroni! My husband's gammon was unfortunately very overcooked. It was more like crispy bacon. Disappointing but it was dealt with very well. £10 parking fee. Presumably people dining who drive don't pay for parking and so it was £10 for overnight. Would rather pay a couple more pounds on the room rate and it include parking.
Our spacious room! Beautifully decorated. Quality bedding and fabrics. Nice tea tray. Free toiletries. Mini fridge in the room. Good lighting options for reading. Bargain price so great value for money. Socket near a mirror!! We didn't use the coffee machine but had we stayed longer, we would have done. Gorgeous shower. Helpful and friendly staff both on reception and in the dining room. We had a complaint regarding one of our meals and it was dealt with perfectly. Very pleasant Merlot!

United KingdomIf I was being really picky then I would have to say nothing.
It was so clean, tidy and comfortable. The room itself, a superior, was great, lovely to look at and the bed was really comfortable. The best bit though was the staff, they were so friendly and went above and beyond to make it feel great.

United KingdomA new boiler had been fitted that day and at 4pm it had on just been put back on. Building very cold. By 6pm still not warm and the TV didn't work. There was a lot of noise from other guests. Manager turned up at 7pm and I was given a room the other side of the hotel. The radiator was hot but the room was still cold and didn't have time to get warm before the heating went off. This room was quiet and the place was as warm as it should have been the second night. They had a gluten free menu but didn't eat there as it was too expensive. It's a well presented hotel but not good value.
Good size room. Faults with first room. Second room was comfy when it eventually warmed up. Has all you need plus a fridge but nothing special.

United KingdomDidn't read the small print about the charge for parking at £10 per night. It was a bit of a shock as the car park was large and there was free parking on the main road close by. Wouldn't stop me staying again though.
The room was beautiful, very comfortable and clean. There was a small fridge which was really useful to have. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I ate in the restaurant one night of my stay and the food was lovely. Would definitely stay here again.

United StatesThe restaurant hours were inconsistent. The restaurant closed early which I understand from a financial perspective but from a guest perspective was inconvenient as we had no forewarning.
The personnel / staff were very helpful and friendly on every interaction. The hotel lodge was nicely situated away from the main road and was quiet, leading to a nice restful stay.

United KingdomFood could have been better quality (eggs not actually poached on the starter, streak not cooked as requested, mussels - sauce didn’t go with them at all) and prices.
Great value for money. Spacious room, nice and clean. Restaurant with good variety of choices menu - not the cheapest. Food ok - average. Staff really friendly! Credit to owners.
