How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Lack of soundproofing with adjoining ensuite the small washbasin in the wet room
Full English (aka the tidal wave) was excellent proximity to the seafront friendly, welcoming, helpful host comfy, spacious room & the dogs were cute

I stayed in Room 3 with my husband and toddler. Room was plenty big enough for the 3 of us, was really clean and very comfortable. Perfect location for minis bay. We had a family dinner booked in the Wave for 18 of us and it was the perfect Christmas celebration. Food was so good, staff so attentive and everyone really enjoyed it. The next day we had breakfast before checking out, and even the toddler ate everything. So friendly! Will definitely be back soon!

Not sure really, it was really good.
Room was lovely and warm and clean, bed was comfortable. Breakfast was OK, lovely bacon, mushrooms, sausage and tomato. Plenty of brown buttered toast but no marmalade or jam! Fab position on the sea front, lovely bar. Wish we could have stayed longer.

our room was the disabled room. would have been impossible to turn my wheelchair around , get to the tea/ coffee , chest of drawers , wardrobe or single bed in the room had i needed to use it.

What a little gem of a place ! We stayed 1 night with our little dog and thoroughly enjoyed the location, room and everything about Waves. Very dog friendly. It’s somewhere we will definitely return to. A big thanks to all the staff for making it a great stay. Mark, Tracey and Albie (the dog)

The room was lovely. Very clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was delicious. The property is right on the sea front which is perfect for sunrise and sunset. I would definitely recommend The Waves and hope to visit again.

There was nothing to dislike.
The location - just a short stroll from the beach. The accommodation- very clean and comfortable. The staff - welcoming, friendly and obliging.

No other issues apart from room carpet mentioned above.

I would have preferred to spread my own butter on the toast but a small point
Staff were lovely and obliging.Room was very quiet and comfy!Right near the sea and we were lucky with the weather!!The breakfast was fine and resident dogs lovely.

Everything was fine. Only let down was Minnis Bay is very small and quiet. Other than a restaurant there is nothing open in the evening. If Waves bar was open in the evening we would of used it.

For environmental reasons I would have preferred that the delicious breakfast had been on a non disposable plate but that is a minor detail. Everything else was great although the single bed for my son was a bit too high for him
I really liked the room and the facilities. The staff were very friendly and I loved Birchington on sea. There was no netflix but to be honest I preferred that - stopped my son from being glued to the TV. Breakfast was great.

Breakfast was very good enjoyed it. Our room was clean the only comment I can make is the wet room once used the floor was covered in water the owner should leave a squeezey so you can push the water away and this will allow you to use the Toilet. One more thing I was pleased I could take my Dog as it was Dog friendly but I didn’t agree with the dogs in the dinning room while eating my food with other peoples dogs running and barking around me not a good experience.

Nothing. A late checkout option would have been hugely appreciated.
Perfectly located for kitesurfing lessons in the bay. Clean and well presented with a good breakfast.
