Reasonably good hotel with some nice original features, but not sure why it is 4 star.

Poor to non-existent wifi in the room. Very loud music in the public rooms.

Good location, decent-sized room, efficient and friendly staff. Had local beer in the bar. Restaurant meal was quite good. North-facing room overlooking car park so we could sleep with the window open on the hottest day of the year.

No A/C. Although there was a fan in the room, and we were there during a heat wave. Shampoo etc wasn't renewed.

Breakfast was good We chose the George Hotel because it's in the middle of town. The room and bed was good. It was quiet at night.

We had a room on the front high street side - actually at the top floor but it was still very noisey in the room. Our room was nice but it was expensive.

The hotel was lovely and the features of history were very nice. the decor was very nice. the bar was friendly and welcoming.

Cleaning staff started cleaning the room directly below us at 8:50 am on a Sunday, would have been nice if they waited a bit. I do understand that the rooms need to be done, but perhaps they could wait a bit longer until it is closer to check out time..

Friendly staff. Hotel is very nice. The room was good value for money

Bit concerned about booking a hotel on the High Street because we normally goto a country hotel but glad to say it was perfect, location was ideal for mooching round Colchester town. our room was comfortable with air-conditioning, the bar staff were friendly, we ate in the restuarant and the food was lovely.

we asked for a quiet room: it was fairly quiet but unfortunately due to the isolation of the corridors and rooms you hear a loud banging of the (fire)doors every time someone passes. We read beforehand that getting to the rooms you've to climb the stairs. It hadn't gotten through to us that this means carrying a rather heavy suitcase on quite a lot off steep stairs and narrow corridors is a bit of a work out. As we found out upon arriving in Colchester centre town is partly closes for motorised vehicles and one way and narrow streets, we found it rather impossible to reach the parking of the hotel; therefore we parked in the nearest carpark.

We loved the look and feel of this hotel, thee staff upon check-in, the room was spotless, comfy beds and pillows

Already mentioned, but breakfast service was a bit slow. I think it was just because a lot of people arrived at once, towards the end of breakfast times. The food was delicious though.

The rooms were surprisingly spacious! Nicely decorated, quiet and very clean. Breakfast was delicious, although we arrived towards the end of the breakfast service so the staff was a little overwhelmed by the amount of people, it took a bit of time to get served. The location is absolutely perfect, central, on high street. The George pub downstairs was also a nice place to have a drink. I would stay here again!

No specification in the rooms around the room service and no room service menu in the room, no bath in the room we had and in the rooms advertised on booking.com and no mini fridge in rooms to keep drinks cold in summer. Quite noisy (noise from the hallways which are quite creaky)

Good location, very close to lots of shops and restaurants and parking is really close by. Bathroom was lovely and modern and downstairs is very picturesque. Good value for money overall

finding the hotel using google maps was awful, it directed us to the rear of the hotel where there is no access for cars due to the bollards.

Unfortunately, room location was in close proximity to internal garden courtyard and the clientele were enjoying a boisterous evening and due to temperature it was necessary to leave the windows open. A hazard of a weekend stay during an extremely hot spell. Would have been better if rear parking was hotel property and a lower tariff imposed.

Location of hotel was in the centre and on a one way circuit Due to bunting and parked cars, it took two circuits to visually recognize and a third to access the side street to the rear parking (Pay & Display). Hotel is a historic building and has been tastefully renovated. This aspect included the room, which was spacious clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated.

The building is about 500 years old. Thereis no lift and stairs are very steep, in some cases without proper handrails. The room had been refurbished, but no wardrobe for clothes. Bedside lights were far too high and too low a wattage, to dark to read a book.

There was a lively public bar plus several lounges. Buffet breakfast was poor but the cooked breakfast was very good. The chef, for dinner, is excellent. However, the hotel appears to be used for short stays, because it is the same menu each evening. Car park is behing the hotel, sadly it is a public one at £9.75 per day with no consessions for hotel residents.

Unique Hotel in the heart of Colchester

During my first day, the room gave the impression of being tidy, but unfortunately, the cleaning staff appeared unmotivated to uphold its cleanliness. I frequently encountered new hairs across the bathroom floors, and the supplies like shampoo and body wash were never restocked. In addition to that, the bed was left unmade, and instead of replacing the coffee cups I used, they were left dirty.

The hotel exudes a distinct sense of uniqueness, thanks to its exceptional interior design and the incredibly accommodating nature of its staff. During my business trip, I had some specific requests as I wished to bring back a few items from the UK, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that all my requests were fulfilled. Moreover, the food at the hotel was truly delightful, adding to the overall excellent experience.

Our room looked out to courtyard and being warm we had a window open. Noises around 6am from staff, possibly chairs being dragged and doors banging woke us up.

Comfortable twin room which was a good size, we also enjoyed the bar area, all decorated nicely throughout.
