Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomExcellent breakfast. Reasonable evening meals. Place could use some TLC, tired looking would be an apt description.

United KingdomWe did not originally book for evening meal. An e mail was sent requesting an evening meal. but was told on arrival that if we had not booked it with the original booking it was not possible. We were told to go to the Bistro about 50 metres away, but this was basically a bar with a limited menu.
The room was ok with the lake view and closeness of the bus and train stations.

United KingdomI had read the reviews so knew it would be tired but it wasn't that really, it was abrupt staff. No negotiation on earlier check in. We arrived at 2.30 and before I could even ask if our room was ready, was told, ' come back at 3 to check in.' I understand size of hotel makes upkeep hard but it just struck me as mean. Dog-friendly to a point. We were asked to say an exact time we would eat so we would not be there with any other dogs, then we were sat a fair trot from the breakfast room, in a dark, raised area. We understand totally the need to separate dog owners, we are used to it and anywhere that allows dogs is wonderful but I think the staff lack of warmth exacerbated the sense of being a 2nd class guest. I saw a sign advising to let reception know if you wanted your room serviced during your stay. So I asked and was greeted by a surprised, ' we only empty bins, do not make beds!' The hotel is not what I would call cheap and is a mile and a quarter from the lake and totally full on Friday night and Saturday. Great position for the station.
Even though you pay £6 a night to park, this is a great facility. Wish I had been told by receptionist about excellent bus services opposite from the station. You can get the 599 down to Bowness (a mile and a half's walk- we learnt hard way). Then after exploring you hop back on the 599 or 505 back up to the station-stay on and it takes you to Ambleside then Grassmere. All for £2 ! Guided tour recording, too. Go on upper deck. The 599 is half open topped, too. We took bus on 2 days. Ambleside one day then Grassmere the next. Absolutely brilliant and you can leave your car safe in hotel car park. Buses go to Kendal and Keswick, too. Even Lancaster. The entrance to Orrest Head Wainwright walk is at the end of the hotel drive. There is even a less brutal 'easier' route up. We took that on the way down.

United KingdomThe hotel itself inside is a bit outdated with ripped carpets in the corridors but nothing that a good lick of paint and new carpets couldn't fix. Have to pay £6 per day for parking which was an added cost but was written on booking description and around the hotel so not an unexpected cost.
Hotel was in a great location for walking into Windermere ( downhill about 45 minutes). Across the road from the train station and buses stop regularly outside. The hotel staff were all really pleasant and seemed happy to be there, always giving a warm welcome. Brilliant hot, full breakfast available with cereal and pastries. Chef always visibly coming in and out of kitchen, with all clean aprons.

United KingdomMeals provision was not good for dinner. Breakfast was ok Restaurant was"fully booked" with a coach party. They suggested the Hotel bistro, but this was expensive and the quality was very poor. Needless to say, there was no one else in - we should have realised why?

United KingdomOur room was chilly even though the radiators were on so had a warm bath. We couldn't open the drawers in our room which had the hairdryer in. Luckily I packed my own hairdryer at the very last minute from home.
I liked the view from our room window., Carparking was good value compared to some other hotel parking.

United KingdomRoom was very warm even with the window open. Parking was extra to be paid even though we had paid to stay in the hotel so would have expected this to include the parking.
The room was standard but everything I expected and was comfortable. The shower was lovely and hot and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very good and enjoyable and not expensive. Staff friendly and willing to help.
