Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

What was not to like? Awesome location, clean rustic room, a fairytale in real life. The owner was very friendly and accommodating, fulfilling all our requests with a genuine smile. The hosts maintained authenticity in their interactions, avoiding typical tourist formalities. We enjoyed our stay immensely and hope to return soon!

FranceWe really enjoyed our stay: the family room was an old byzantine house on two levels that has a lot of style. It was located in the center of the Kastro, perfect for discovering the beautiful city of Monemvasia. The hotel team was very welcoming and helpful, paying attention to details for a high-quality stay: as an example the bath towel were delicately perfumed with a light scent of orange. We were also able to borrow additional towels to be able to swim in the sea just outside of the fortified walls where we were able to see lots of colourful fishes (a memorable experience) Breakfast was awesome (best one we had in our week in many hotels across Peloponnese). A memorable stay for us!

ItalyThe wifi signal is a bit weak and goes on and off. Not the best if you try to work.
I loved the place!! The hotel reception is at the entrance of the castle town of Monemvasia, but the rooms are located in different parts of the village. The room was small but full of personality. Really impressive how they restored the old buildings to get rooms out of them. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was amazing!

IrelandNot a problem for us, but due to the footprint of this house the stairs between the two levels is steep and so may not be suitable for smaller children or some elderly visitors, although there is a second entrance at the lower level.
Our accommodation was a traditional house on two levels, recently renovated with exceptional taste, just a few metres off the central small street running through the village. It also included a small outside seating area with wonderful views.

BulgariaAs said above, almost all criticism arises from the specifics of Monemvasia castle area. Parking areas are only on the road outside the walls. Be prepared to have your car parked hundreds of meters away. If you chose the hotel for its location just beside the city gate, well - that is only the reception. The hotels owns or rents several rooms and/or buildings all around the castle area. There is no telling where your room will be, how distant from the gate and how many stairs you will need to climb. There are no 2 rooms alike. There is no telling what type of furniture you will get, what size and looks your bath and toilet will have. Or your balcony. My advise is - always ask to see the choice of all rooms available in your paid category. As for the rooms, expect nothing boutique. You will have any type, style and make of furniture, taps, appliances. Many things will be broken or not fully operational, just usable. Our toilet door was missing, I think it got damaged at some point, removed, never returned. As for breakfast, it is served in a separate building, so when choosing your room, have this in mind as well. In one word - if you focus on the small details, MANY THINGS will disappoint you. But the OVERALL STAY will be superb, the place is magical and you will enjoy your time, forgetting the small annoyances. Finally, all hotels and services in Monemvasia Castle area are overpriced, be prepared. And the beach is NOT a beach, just a piece of rock bench above sea level. But great fun for the brave of heart.
The main asset of the property are its location and its staff/owners. Any location within the walls of Monemvasia is memorable and unique. When evaluating the hotel, I am taking in consideration the extremely unique specifics of hospitality business in Monemvasia (explained in the section below). We liked the spirit of the place, the kindness of the staff. The breakfast was good and varied, with many typically Balkan meals and products. Our room had a balcony and a huge bathroom.

United StatesThe room was great - good sized patio, which was private but still had good views of the bell tower and water, etc. There was a working fireplace, which we enjoyed, and larger living space than I was expecting. It was a good layout with charming historic detail and a modern bathroom.

United StatesIt was in the heart of Monemvasia . You can walk to several restaurants and elegant bars . Make sure you pack light as you can’t take your car in and streets are tight and lots of hills and steps and stairs are narrow.

CanadaWith respect to the bed in our room (no idea how other beds in other rooms are), regrettably it felt quite firm and thin, feeling like a stock RV mattress.
The best feature of the property were the helpful staff, Constantina (Greek-French-Canadian!) and Tina (Greek-Australian). Tina was so helpful in setting us up in the room, and you must follow her helpful recommendations when it comes to traversing the castle property. The pair will also set you up with food recommendations and what to do within the castle grounds. The room was close to the sea wall; stone pathways in some parts steep, but a unique and enjoyable adventure. The room itself was atop a multi-storey building, with the usual bed, storage, etc. The bathroom has the shower and toilet in the same place (we’re easy, so no issue there). TV is provided, and wifi of course. Parking is not desirable but hey, it’s a walled castle. Parking may be available along the mountain where others park, however you may need to park further down (like, way down!) but the walk up is beautiful. There are the usual stray cats and some pups within. The restaurants we chose were fine; some basic Greek preparations. At one restaurant that we ate, the dolmades were incredible (can’t find the name on Google). Swimming is available all along the road to the castle, or within the castle at a designated dipping point on the Mediterranean.
