The fact that there were insect repellent devices throughout the room, although the reservation assumed the existence of a child in the room, who could have gotten hold of those devices. The bed linens looked quite old or worn and the room walls could have looked better.

The hospitality of the employees and the delicious homemade jam received on departure. The view was very beautiful, and the stay was quiet, the hotel being located in a quiet area.

Honestly we liked everything. But the only downside that I can find to this hotel is that it's pretty far from Kavala and from the beaches, so if you plan on staying there for the beaches, you should know that you need a car each day. On the upside, the roads are in good condition and the view is very nice while driving.

The hotel is located on a hill, overlooking the village. The view alone is worth all the money. The rooms are spacious enough, very clean, with all the amenities. Shower, TV, hair drier, balcony, air conditioning, etc.. It seems that the hotel if family-owned and operated, and the staff is very friendly. The restaurant is only opend from 6PM until 22-23, and the food is excellent. Especially the breakfast, which is home-made, with fresh and tasty ingredients. Most likely we will visit again and recommend to friends.

The hotel is located on top of the hill … beautiful and super clean location … looks like a castle ….the staff was absolutely amazing… about 25 min driving from Kavala . Breakfast for two could have feed easy four people .

Breakfast was wonderful, and it was delivered to us in the beautiful dining room on a tea cart that carried a full selection of eggs, pastries, cold cuts, etc., and accompanied by homemade fig preserves. Coffee and tea were both brought to our table. The view from the dining room is gorgeous. We ended up having dinner in the dining room for 2 of the 3 nights we were there. That was also quite good. The owners were lovely and really took care of us. Our room was modern, comfortable, and had a stunning view. I would definitely go back!

We only stayed for one night in order to see Philippi. If we had it to do over we would stay here longer and see more of the area. The breakfast was fantastic, the room was spotless and comfortable, and the view was spectacular. If you stay, make sure you ask the owner about the archaeological site and the area - he was a wealth of information for us. Parking for the car was convenient and easy, and it was a very quick, short drive down to the archaeological site and museum.

This hotel is a hidden gem. Beautiful facilities overlooking the valley with free parking. Great breakfast. But the owner made the stay, with a passion for the area and history. Willing to sit down and give helpful tips planning your day and even places to go that you won't find in guidebooks.

Unique location, Superb view. Extremely kind owner, ready to answer all wishes. (He prepared grilled fish for us, even though it was not on the menu.) Only 20 minutes by car from the beaches.

No pool but nothing else

Clean, practical. Rooms have great air-con and marble floors. The views from the restaurant over the Plain of Philippi were outstanding. We love this hotel and have visited four times. It doesn’t have a pool but the rooms, outstanding views, fantastic food with home specialities more than make up for that. A fantastic ‘does what it says on the tin’ hotel.

We were shocked at how perfect the setting was! The view of the ruins combined with the view of the town felt like a movie scene. It felt like an intimate boutique hotel with the convenience and location of a 5 star hotel.

The location is very convenient, whether you're interested in the archaeological site at Philippi or want to spend time at the beaches by Kavala. The hotel itself is beautiful and a labor of love for the family who built and own it. The south-facing rooms have a fantastic view of the village of Krinides and the surrounding valley and it was very peaceful during the night and morning. The best part of our stay was the incredible hospitality shown to us by the owners! They did not hesitate to share their recommendations about sites and restaurants in the area, even drawing maps so we would end up at the right place! They also have a wealth of knowledge about the region's history and culture, and we learned a lot through our conversations with them. The Philippeio Hotel is high on our list when we make a return trip to Greece and we will make sure to extend the duration of our stay!
