Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SpainNo tea or coffee in the room, no water provided. No turndown service. It's as if it was a 5* hotel running on an austerity drive. Parking is expensive for what it is. It's central, but not that central.
Decor, quality of service, bar and restaurant. Try the strukli. I have stayed there more than a dozen times and keep returning. However, I feel that other hotels may now be better. That said, I have stayed in other hotels and they do not compare favorably.

United StatesLoved the property it just needs a little sprucing and coffee makers should be in the rooms for convenience.
It’s a great hotel with a wonderful staff and checked all our boxes (centrally located, beautiful, comfortable and clean). A little TLC to this historic hotel would be amazing. Stepping into this hotel you know it was a magical place to be. The food was fantastic which was a big bonus!

SingaporeNo kettle in room While we booked 2 standard deluxe rooms on your website, the hotel gave a larger room to my wife and me , and a smaller room to my son. They said my room was an upgrade although I had no way of verifying that my room was indeed upgraded or my son’s room was a downgrade Restaurant staff basically lack experience and couldn’t really fully understand our instructions when we made our orders

United StatesAir conditioning is inadequate and always has been - once it is hot outside, the room remains uncomfortably warm. Also, some of the staff in the Bistro were amazingly unpleasant, both to me and to a Croatian friend.
Room excellent, staff responsive and helpful. The food in the restaurants is excellent and the staff in the fancy restaurant are amazing.

It’s absolutely great experience based on service & cost. The hotel is very good starting from location and finishing with choice for the breakfast and comfortable beds. The best is personal: you will be covered with attention from guys who meet you at the entrance and continuing with reception, concierge, staff at the breakfast. People are friendly, sincere , smiling, fast in any reaction (I get an answer regarding hairdressing booking from the concierge in 30 minutes after sending an email!) Being a frequent traveler due to business and pleasure and staying in 4-5 hotels per month in different countries- sincerely recommend Esplanade to make your home during your stay in beautiful Zagreb

United KingdomHave to start by saying this is very nitpicky since the whole experience was great, but the heating during our stay was a bit too much, maybe because we came from up north and the season for locals is still pretty wintery. Breakfast service varied a bit, staff were great on both occasions, but on the first day we were just sat at the table and on the second explained how the service works. These are such minor things, but could mean a lot to people, especially if they are visiting for the first time.
Loved the location and the hotel setting. It's super central, so getting around is very easy. Walking in is like you have entered the Orient Express experience, packed with history and little details to enchant your senses and mind.

United StatesI tried to use the dry sauna, and it was cold, so I called the desk, and the response was that you have to call 20 minutes prior to use so we can turn it on. There was no coffee machine or tea pot in the room.
The hotel is part of history and is absolutely kept well. The bed was super comfy, and the size of our room was very spacious and nice.

United StatesThe coffee maker in my room was exceptionally dirty. The water container had “pond scum” in it. The minibar refrigerator was never cold. Everything inside was room temperature. I was never able to find ice.
The staff is amazing. Everyone was cheerful and helpful. Tips were appreciated and not expected. Of course, we spent a considerable amount of time in the bar, and the staff there is world class! Housekeeping was unseen, but my room was fresh and clean everyday when I returned from work. Room service was punctual, food was hot, and attendant was polite and eager to please. I reported the issues that I will explain in the next question to someone in the lobby. He took my concerns very seriously, went to talk to maintenance and came back and asked if it was ok for them to go to the room immediately and resolve my concerns. Having a staff like yours makes everything wonderful. Thanks to them all, and thank you for hiring, training, and motivating them. Good job.
