Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyThis place is a hidden gem! My girlfriend and I decided to spend some time in Budapest and we are so glad that we found this hostel. The staff is incredibly friendly, as well as all the people that we met inside the hostel. The furniture is zen-nish and the general atmosphere is super relaxing. Even though the hostel is not in the city center, it is very close to the tram station (from which you can pick the tram n° 19 or 49, leading to the central part of Pest in about 15-20 mins). If I ever come back to Budapest, I'll surely try to stay at the Shantee House once again.

RomaniaNot the host's fault by any means, but some of the guests could be more careful with the common areas. More specifically, somebody did some seriously smelly cooking one evening, and they did not close the door from the kitchen to the lobby and did not properly ventilate the kitchen. The smell got into the whole building and we had to put a towel under the door to prevent the smell from coming into the room. The garden looks a little better in the pictures than in real life.
Very relaxed place. More for young solo travelers or even students as long term guests. But as a family, we felt very good, too. The room was very comfortable. The place is very quiet. There are a lot of young people, but they are very zen and calm, not noisy party animals. Very good value for money.

AustriaI like everything except maybe for the location...but this is not something the owner could change...
Very unique place to stay. Furnished and decorated with detail and love. I have never stayed at a place where the owner has put so much thinking and love into the details. There are tags and explanation everywhere for the insecure guest. There is a great variety of tea you can take and you are trusted to put the cash for the tea in the cash box. The owner is very helpful. I would always go back to Shantee House:)

RomaniaThis was a very special place! Really liked all the things they did with the house, you can sense there was a lot of love put in it! Friendly and supportive hosts, also. Not very close to city center, but still reachable by walking. Will definitely visit again on our next trip to Budapesta!

GermanyWe didn't stay in the main building (the yurt is out in the bamboo garden) so we can't comment on how the normal hostel experience there is.
Stay in the yurt! It's incredible!

SpainStay here longer, meet more people. The only thing that I didn't like was to leave.
The vibe is amazing. The staff is so friendly. One of the best hostels I have ever been to. Highly recommended. It is not in the city center, but it is straightforward to go by bus or train—no worries about that.

FranceAmazing experience staying in this Hostel. For sure we are coming back when we visit Budapest again. The shared living room and kitchen and garden - amazing design and it made us feel at home! The host was really friendly and nice, he gave us a lot of advice and we talk about different things. It is not in the center of Budapest but the metro station is not so far away and the neighborhood was ok and quiet.

RussiaUtterly ridiculous and absurd dorm space organization. The shared room I stayed in was about 12 square meters and it had 4 beds divided one after another only with bedside tables, each one equipped with a table lamps. Out of 2 nights I was due to spend there I didn't sleep well a single one. On my first night I was awakened by the another guest from the bed next to mine who got up at around 2a.m., turning on the lamp and packing his stuff for leaving. On my second night I was awakened once again at around midnight this time by a newcoming guests, who turned on their lamp and began unpacking their stuff. As for the hostel with intention to create certain yoga meditation vibe for the travelers I think such dorm space organisation is simply inacceptable. Beds should be equipped with privacy curtains at least.
Cleanliness and neatness at all premises. Very authentic yoga-style decoration of common areas and thoughtful atmosphera overall.

FinlandThere's quite a few people living long term in the house? It changes the place and the.. power dynamics even though surely not intentional. Kitchen was many times occupied by this group and crowded. Also there is all these signs saying that the garden is out of use after 9pm which is good because the yurt in the yard has no proper walls and every sound gets inside. But people don't care, not sure if guests or the crew but all night drinking outside, crappy behaviour all the same.
Beautiful building and interior design, well thought of. I stayed in the yurt and it was just as rooted as I thought, all people staying in there were super respectful and acted as quiet as they could what suited the space perfectly.
