Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Simple place, very clean, comfortable bed. We had a different breakfast every morning 😋 More than a homestay, it's also a travel agency! Fryda had arranged our trip to Sukamade before arrival, was incredible. She took us to a coffee plantation on scooter with 2y Arkan... We only recommend to stay a few days in Banyuwangi at Banana Homestay

I really liked it here. They’re so sweet. Basic accommodation, but clean and comfortable. They also have the nicest, cutest cats. The homestay is located on a quiet, neighborhood street. If you used google map you could find some food places nearby.

I loved our (short) stay. The room was simple but with a cool vibe and clean. We had private bathroom and AC. No hot shower but it was ok. The owner was extremely nice and helpful. She spoke great English, helped with our onward trip to Bali and answered all our questions. We also took a shared trip to Ijen which was great (small group, good guide, all nicely organized and good price). They were so nice that they returned money when one of us had to cancel last minute. We also got great breakfast in the morning (egg sandwich, fresh fruits, coffee and a cake). Would totally recommend this place

United KingdomGreat themed hostel with very friendly staff that really gave it a homely feel. Everyone was super helpful and they made our very short stay enjoyable. We did the Ijen trek through the hostel and had a great experience. The newly required medical assessment (35k) was done at a 24h clinic en route to Ijen. Fantastic breakfast at the hostel upon returning from the trek and they even had gluten free options which was highly appreciated. Incredible value for money.

IndonesiaThe homestay's location may inconvenience those seeking nearby restaurants and shops. However, online food delivery services like Grab or Gojek offer convenient alternatives. I'd love to see a door handle on the toilet door in the room I'm staying in. It would help a lot to be able to close the toilet door.
Fryda and Imron redefine hospitality with their warm welcome and genuine interest in ensuring guests have a memorable stay. Their passion for the outdoors adds an exciting dimension to your experience as they eagerly share insider tips on exploring Banyuwangi's hidden gems. Fryda and Isti helped me stay super comfortable by driving me on our outdoor adventures. They treat guests with the same hospitality, respect, and attentiveness as one would extend to their family members. The homestay is clean, ensuring a comfortable stay. Room cleaning is available when staying longer than three days. Most rooms have drying racks and a clothesline on the second floor, which is convenient for a multiple-day stay. The laundry service is affordable, too. A delicious breakfast is provided every morning with main dishes, fresh fruits, and hot or cold beverages. The shared kitchen offers all the essentials for those who prefer to cook, and a water dispenser is also available. They also provide tour packages to famous tourist attractions. Meet Milky, Molly, and Oyen, the adorable resident cats who add charm to your stay. Banana Homestay attracts a diverse and respectful crowd. It's the perfect setting to forge new friendships and exchange travel tales. I extended my stay with them again after I finished my private trip to Banyuwangi and planned to stay with them again for a second trip soon.

I liked my stay there very much. The owners are absolutely amazing and always helpful. Fryda took me around on her motorbike and showed me very nice things. Breakfast was wonderful with a lot of fruit. The room was so delightful and had everything you need, even nice-smelling gels. There was a free refill of hot and cold water, tea, coffee and bananas. The seating area was also great. The location is central. As a solo traveller I felt very safe and looked after.

GermanyThis was one of the best accommodations we've stayed in during our trip. Frida and her family are so welcoming! She took us to a food factory nearby right after we arrived to show us local food production. The breakfast every morning was amazing, something different every day with lots of fresh fruit. The local breakfast on the last day was the best! Loved that we could order lunch and dinner for a good price at the homestay - convenient for after tours. We can recommend booking the Ijen tour with Banana Homestay, the best price we've found and the guide & driver were fantastic! It's a social place where you can easily meet people in the patio seating area. Free bananas and water, and the room was fine too. We would stay here again happily!

GermanyThe communication with the own was very polite and quick from the beginning. They helped to organised my group trip to Mount Ijen and answered all my questions about transportation. The room itself is simple, but had everything it needed. As the description said it doesn't not have AC but a ventilator. Be prepared for that. It is going to be warm. All facilities war clean and there were always free showers. Especially the food (breakfast and dinner I purchased) were amazing! I had a lovely stay!
