Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South KoreaMy wife, Grimmie, slipped and fell on her moss the first day she came in. She was not injured thanks to the well-manicured lawn. They immediately filled the slippery area with soil to prevent further danger to guests. But you must always be careful. Although marble is cool and clean, it turns into ice at even the slightest moisture. Grimmy is just learning to swim. She happily learned to swim in this small bathtub, like a child, and after two days she was finally able to float her body on her own. She wasn't afraid to swim in her rain either. Mount Batur, clouds, wind, and gardens always make us happy. I was even happier because the strong wind blew away flies and mosquitoes. If the wind feels cold, you can quickly jump into the hot spring bath. The nasi goreng was excellent. The pancakes were delicious, but it would be even better if she decorated them with cucumbers and tomatoes. Because she has so much work to do, it seems she doesn't have time to decorate her delicious food. Over the course of three days, I ordered fried fish twice, nasi goreng, french fries, rice, and two bottles of water. It was a simple meal. However, the total price including tax is only $25. Although the menu was simple and the portions were small, it was a truly enjoyable meal. When coming to Batur Happy House, you need to prepare a few things. 1) Prepare something to play with, whether it’s a musical instrument or something else, and enjoy it to your heart’s content. Drums are okay too. 2) You can bring a fly swatter, but be sure to use the wonderful fly swatter provided by the couple. 3) Familiarize yourself with or check the route to Mount Batur. Google Maps was wrong, and I couldn't check Apple Maps. Rather, it would be better to ask the couple. I didn't ask because my English was limited and I couldn't understand it clearly. 4) You may bring 1.5 liters of water with you. 5) If you walk for about 5 minutes, there are small restaurants nearby.
After breakfast, we rest for a while and then swim in the hot springs in the rain. Ah, I'm leaving this place. It was a small and inconvenient accommodation, but I had a very enjoyable and pleasant time. The cost of dinner for three days is 30,000 won. I checked carefully, and the tea she gave me every time I was playing in the pool was a favor she showed me. Of course, I paid for two 500ml water bottles, and I knew in advance that it wasn't free. You can reach the top of Mount Batur by walking slowly in 2 hours. Just say Jalan Jalan to everyone you meet along the way. However, it is unfortunate that Google Maps misled me and I ended up taking a walk near the entrance instead of being able to reach the summit. My wife, Grimy, hates smoking. Nevertheless, my happy friend said he would secretly take care of it for me, and he tried to put a cigarette in my pocket. Unfortunately, there was Grimmy right in front of me, so I had no choice but to refuse. The couple cleans the pool once a day. Just think of it as a large bathtub, where you can sit and play day or night. I wanted to drink vodka if I could get my wife's permission, but it's a shame I couldn't. There are so many bugs and flies infesting the area. The first evening was spent trying to resolve these issues. I asked for a fly swatter and he brought me something really precious. It's a cute little thing made of thinly sliced bamboo and tied with wire. After getting rid of all the lovely bugs, I blocked the entrances where the bugs entered with curtain string, paper, and footrests. Finally, there was a boundary between them and me. The bathroom is small and smells like naphthalene, but it's okay. If you can't stand it too much, just wrap it in tissue paper, leave it outside, and bring it back in the evening before you go to bed. Naphthalene must protect the bathroom to prevent insects from taking over the bathroom. It's a fun experience. Bugs, don't be scared.

AustraliaNot about the property but more about the area. Lots of flies. We had to fight with flies over meals.
Fantastic host! The place offers hot spring which we did enjoy at night after a long day. The location is secluded, yet great with waking distance to local restaurants and Batur hot spring. The host helped to organise a Jeep tour. It was a fantastic experience!

BulgariaThe gang to the house is a bit rough for motobike in rainy season.
Peaceful place with beautiful view of the vulcano. Clean, quiet for the most part, all basics covered, hot water well running, natural spring water pool, owner is very sweet and would go out of her way to make you welcome and comfortable. It's family ran and it is really the only 3 rooms so it's quite private and wonderful for a group of friends or a family to have a couple days stay. We wanted to walk to the lake and the owner was so kind to come with us and show us the way. We had a lovely stay and experience the local hospitality.

GermanyBatur happy house is a small set of villas away from the main road. At first, it is a little difficult to find, but the small roads to the place only make it more authentic. The setting is beautiful and the owners really look after and care for their gardens. A clear view of the volcano is present and it really is magical. The stars at night on a clear day are also fascinating. The room is great. It is exceptionally clean and homely. The bed is huge and super comfortable. There is no ac in the room which I was a little worried about, but it gets cold here at night so it was completely fine and would be unnecessary. The hosts themselves were 10/10. They offered to lend me cash when the ATM was not working, they planned two hikes for me on short notice, they organised my laundry even though it was not on site and were always checking up on me. Their hospitality was incredible. The banana pancake they made way the best I've had! An absolute must stay and would 100% recommend and come back in the future.

ArgentinaHard to find. Maybe a bigger sign would be good. If you press “get directions” from the Booking app, it will send you to the wrong place. Luckily I searched directly in google maps. The address there is right. But you need to take the street that comes from the main road, not the one that comes from above. Also maybe I would add some fly nets to the windows.
It’s very well done, attention to detail. Really clean and comfortable. No AC but it was totally fine.

AustraliaLovely, spacious bungalow with very comfortable bed and hot shower. Great position to trek Mt Batur and then go to the hot springs. 2 night stay was perfect amount of time to do these things. Appreciated Nyoman quickly organising our trek up Mt Batur as we arrived late the evening prior. Ayu (Nyomans niece) was an excellent, non-intrusive guide helping us to overtake crowds when necessary and finding us peaceful place to have a lovely breakfast at the top to enjoy the view. Wayan, Nyoman’s wife, is a great cook and prepared a tasty, spicy fish dish on second night called nyat nyat which was delicious and Nyoman made us his yummy banana pancake after the hike (Wayan revealed that she was the one to teach him the secret recipe!).

United KingdomThis is a simple homestay, as you'd expect up in the mountains. There are flies (which many reviewers comment on). But they really aren't that bad and it is not the fault of the homestay! Everything was very clean. And they offered me the option of eating in my room if I preferred (I didn't: I found that waving my knife around frequently was enough to keep them off).
I spent a long time looking for a place in Batur because nearly all seemed to have some very critical reviews. I am so glad I chose Batur Happy House. There are three detached bungalows round a pretty garden and pool (though I am not sure I would go in the pool). Everything was clean and comfortable. Food was excellent (they can do dinner for you). The owner Nyoman and his staff were so welcoming and helpful with hot tea on arrival. Nyoman organised my climb of Batur, led by his charming niece Ayu, and explained the different options. The location is perfect for the climb, on the right side of the lake, which meant a relatively less ungodly start time of 4am. Great experience all round. I thoroughly recommend.

VietnamThere’s wasn’t a kettle but they brought you a tray with a thermos and teas/coffee. There isn’t a heater/AC unit and the off-season was quite chilly at night/in the morning. 2 nights was the perfect amount of time to spend there. I’ve seen lots of post about the flies. Flies are just a thing up here. They were all over the area, nothing to really be done about it though.
The property is in a great location. It’s at the base of the volcano and right next to the hot springs. Hike Mt. Batur in the morning and sit in its hot springs in the afternoon. The banana pancakes are great. The owners are very sweet and accommodating.

Australiathis place is set back from the main road and is quiet from traffic noise. the rooms are really luxurious (by my standards anyway) and well appointed, set on the family land you feel like you are living with the family rather than in a hotel Dody and his wife looked after us like we were family and took us into their lives as there was a celebration of a birthday happening while we were there. I even got convinced to do karaoke…and I sing solo. so low you can’t hear it. we had such a great time that we stayed an extra night and Dody took us to the lake where his family have a fishery.
