Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Statesloved everything about this place - the stairs were a bit steep for my 87 year old mom, but she's a trooper and did it - if she can -you can!
loved everything about this place - it is not fancy, but it is very clean and the Hostess is fantastic. we arrived late and she made dinner for us when we got there. The traditional meal she cooked the next day was also great, chicken in bamboo. There is a full bathroom outside the house with a hot water shower, western toilet and two sinks - very clean. The traditional house would not be able to accommodate a bathroom in the building itself. This is an experience to stay in real Toraja house - it is not a fancy hotel - but it is great!!

Netherlands-
We had a great stay in the traditional house. Mama Valen and her family are very welcoming and friendly and helped us find a good guide and motorbike/scooter for our stay in Tana Toraja. It’s a 10-15 minute bike ride from Rantepao center which made it very quiet and peaceful. The food was excellent!

NetherlandsThe hosts are very nice! They picked us up at the busstation. The traditional Tongkonan house is very special to stay in. The environment is very green and beautifull. The breakfast was great with good local coffee. The bathroom is very good, although outside of the house. This is obvious because you stay in a Tongkonan house.

It was such a treat to stay in a traditional tongkonan for our last night in Toraja! We absolutely love the experience. The room inside tongkonan is very comfortable, the mattress was super cosy. The bathroom was the nicest we’ve had in Indonesia- brand new, with two sinks and even hot water! Mama Valen is a wonderful host and cook. Our dinner curry was the best mean I had in Indonesia.

Great family homestay! It’s a unique experience to sleep in a traditional Tongkonan. It’s simple, but really cozy and clean. The private bathroom is just at the opposite site - really modern and until the afternoon you also have hot water. Breakfast was also good: we could choose between Indonesian (nasi/mie goreng), fruits, cake etc. But the BEST is the family: Mama and Papa Valen, as well as the rest of the family are such nice people. Very hostable, lovely and caring - we felt like a part of the family and not like tourists. Even for my birthday they surprised me with a very delicious birthday cake, thank you so much for everything! Hope to see you soon again!

Spain-
Best place to stay in Toraja. The host, Mama Valen, and the whole family really did their absolute best so we could have the best stay in Tana Toraja. - she helped us in finding a guide for the Rambu Solo funeral. - the place is very comfortable, spacious, quite and clean. - The bathroom is completely new. Toilet and shower are separated, there is hot water and a clean towel per person. - food was delicious - she prepared breakfast everyday for us. You can also have lunch and dinner and we really liked it. - they picked us up and dropped us off on the bus station without any extra charge. - my boyfriend got sick and they helped us in getting to the medical clinic and translating the problems to the doctor. - Mama valen also did the laundry for us. - the whole family is lovely and always very helpful. We definitely recommend this place 100%.

GermanyWe are very happy that we chose Toraja Homestay. To stay in a traditional Torajan house was already an experience and a very good one. They made our travel easier in every possible way. From the pick up, preparing food for us, recommending us a guide, etc. We totally recommend it. We would have loved to stay longer but our plans didn't allow it.

GermanyMama Valen was a very nice host and takes care about us, staying at her traditionell house. The house is simple but very clean. Sleeping room upstairs with enough space. The bathroom is separate behind the house. The house is in the middle of the nature, so you here at night the sound of the jungle. Even two Toraja places can be visited by walking. We definetely recommend this homestay. Sylvia and Thomad from Munich, Germany

IrelandLocation is absolutely stunning. We had a full traditional tonkonan all for ourselves. Very spacious and super clean and very well decorated. The surrounding garden is very well maintained. The view on the lumbung is something special. Breakfast was a delicious nasi goreng. Hot water and great water pressure in the very spacious and clean toilet. The real gem of this place is the super welcoming and helpful owners. They went above and beyond any expectations to help us. They pick us up from Rantepao at 6am, gave us breakfast while waiting for the room to be available. Helped us with an issue on our SIM card and they also gave us super precious information on how to explore Toraja their traditions, especially on the Rambu solo. Be aware that this is a rural area and reception can be very poor both on your phone and on the WiFi.

NetherlandsThe two.rooms are only divided by a curtain so best for one couple or family.
A great location if you are here for tourism. Located in a private and quiet forested area, the traditional house is a special and relaxing place to stay. The bed is fine and has proper bedsheets unlike other homestays in Indonesia. The bathroom is new and has a recently installed hot water shower. Mama Valen prepares a great breakfast and dinner according to your request

United KingdomI don't recommend staying in this place for someone who doesn't have their own means of transportation, as it is not in walking distance from Rantepao. I think that staying in a Tongkonan is not comfortable unless you enjoy climbing and descending a ladder frequently. There was no hot water in the shower, and not enough pressure in the bathroom sinks. And worst of all - I have been misled by Mama Valen WRT the food in the place. On my first day I've been given the menu, and asked what do I want for dinner and for breakfast. Since the various options in the menu had no price next to them, I asked about it and Mama Valen told me it's complimentary. I was very surprised then when on my last day there she brought me a bill for the meals I had there!
The place was quiet and peaceful. Papa Valen was my driver in Toraja and helped me with a lot of things.
