Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceMake sure to bring shampoo/shower gel, as well as ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.
Good room as a base to explore Bromo for sunrise. The room is basic. Nothing fancy but good enough to take a warm shower and get some hours of sleep before exploring Bromo.

SwitzerlandSince we got up at 3AM to see the sunrise, it's only a minor point, but Cahyo Homestay is right next to the road that the Jeeps take to bring tourists to the viewpoints. Therefore, it was rather loud from 2AM onwards.
The host was very nice and provided useful tips for the visit of Bromo. Location is perfect!

IndonesiaThe smell of the sink. The water doesn't drain properly after showering and collects in the bathroom.
The review is strongly related to the fact that one lives directly at the caldera of Mount Bromo, and accordingly, the feeling is overwhelming, making the accommodation secondary due to the unique spirit of a basecamp. The room is small and sufficient for 1-2 days. It is cold, and the thick blankets of the bed provide warmth. You have a direct view of Mount Bromo and can start the climb directly from here. The host has helpful tips and is very open for conversations. There is drinking water in small bottles for free.

United StatesThe room does not have most amenities in the description. There is no AC. It gets cold at night, but you have to have your windows open (which lets the bugs in). During the day, it can get quite warm in the room. No hottub, no kitchen, no tv. The view is wonderful and makes up for it, but don't expect everything in the description. Also, be aware you have to pay the national park entrance fee if you arrive by car/motorbike (since the homestay is inside the park) 220,000.
The view right outside the room is amazing! You can see Mt. Bromo very clearly. There is a restaurant nearby with decent prices. Staff was helpful and nice.

United KingdomDescription did not match room we got. It said there was a hot tub, kitchen, sofa, fireplace, seating area, TV and lots of other things. We got a bed, a bathroom with shower. We thought we would be able to cook there because of our dietary needs but it was just a basic room. Also entire unit advertised as wheelchair accessible and it was not. Owner needs to change listing to accurately reflect facilities available.
Amazing views! You couldn't get a better location in terms of view as it overlooks the Tengger crater and Bromo. Good staff who can advise on walk to crater and try hard to help. Clean if basic accommodation. Restaurants nearby for breakfast and dinner.

AustraliaThe room itself as pictured offered a bed only. We didn’t have any water in the first night when we woke up at 2am. Luckily we have some bottle water to brush and clean. Wifi was switched off at 10pm. Ensure you have enough cash as there’s no ATM. Bring your own tower, body wash etc. Earplugs are much needed if you are a light sleeper.
Cahyo homestay is well located inside Bromo village that must pay an entrance fee of 250K pp (25 AUD pp), 50K (5 AUD) for vehicles entrance. The property is between the Bromo crater and the King Kong hills. It’s a perfect spot for ppl who want to hike. The room itself is a decent size and in a clean condition given how remote and suburban the area is. Cahyo is a lovely host that has given us good guidelines on how to go about hiking Bomo in the early morning, and had offered hot water for coffee and tea. Would recommend him for hikers.
