Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Bonaire St Eustatius and SabaI have never felt so welcome in my life in a hotel. Adi, Coco, Sarah, Santa, Ellie, and everyone else. You are all amazing people. The amount of work you put in the Cheeky Monkeys and all this while wearing the biggest smile and showing the kindest heart is not to explain in words, only in experience. Cheeky Monkeys gives real meaning to 'Arrive as a stranger, leave as a friend'.

CambodiaThere is no hot water, and the mattress needs replacing.
Lovely accommodation in the heart of nature, just outside the village, with the view on a lovely pond and a few minutes walk from a big river. Well maintained, the accommodation was comfortable and clean. Loved their choice of soft pastel colors for the buildings. The bathroom was nicely tiled and of a reasonable size. There is a restaurant on site, and Chef Elly is a gold nugget. Her bubbly attitude is so attractive that you want to eat all your meals there. She's a gifted cook, and with her 'Elly process', her high five, and her big smile, you know your food is in good hands. We will definitely miss her and the rest of the very friendly staff, playing music at night, and sharing useful information with us.

GermanyI went jungle trekking for 2 days with the cheeky monkey guides. They were patient and entertaining all way through but oh dear, it was a tough trek...it helps to be physically and mentally prepared, which I wasnt so I was cursing through half the trek and was ready to be air-lifted out of the jungle halfway-through.
Beautiful location by the jungle and river at the edge of town yet within comfortable walking distance to town centre. Peaceful and calm with kind-hearted and helpful staff. My standard room was simple but lovely and I loved the jungle shower. Food was delicious. I ate my way through the menu.

GermanyIt was a great location. The best thing about our stay was for sure the people. Starting with the pickup we booked via them (easy fast nice and save) over the warm welcome of Sarah and Ade, the tracking with Alex and Sahrol (2 days trip -> one night in the Dschungel with a fantastic dinner and rafting tour back), the food and the taxi ride back to the airport, everything was done with with care, joy and enthusiasm. If you like to chat with Sahrol or Ade in the afternoon or evening both are happy to assist with your needs and answer all the questions about the island and specially the Dschungel, as they are locals and grew up in village.

GermanyWhere should I start. Genuinely the nicest staff we have ever met in any accommodation. Staying there feels like one big family. Every single person was very forthcoming and did their best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They are all locals from Bukit Lawang and have such a passion for their village and the jungle which makes it so special. The jungle trek was amazing. Our guides Coco and Sahrul took great care of us and knew every animal and plant in the park. They provided amazing meals and food for us and gave us the full immersive jungle experience. Even after the trek they joined us at the Cheeky Monkey Homestay and showed us around town. We will never forget these couple of days!

GermanyI wouldn't be able to come up with anything, even if I tried.
I don't even know where to start! Such an amazing location! The garden is incredibly beautiful, the location quiet and peaceful and yet in walking distance to a supermarket and the village. Clean rooms and facilities, mega comfortable beds, mosquito nets. So cozy! The kitchen! Ellie is a gem, her food and fresh fruit juices were absolutely outstanding. The staff in general was extremely helpful, responsive, very very sweet and made us feel right at home. They couldn't have a better crew to be running the place! Huge compliments, ya'll absolutely lovely people (and canines)! 🌼 Highly recommended to choose the jungle trek with Cheeky Monkeys as well! Our fantastic guides made it an unforgettable experience, it absolutely exceeded any expectations by far! Very empathatic, super patient, knowledgeable and respectful towards this special environment - we couldn't have imagined better jungle guides, nor a better trekking experience! 11/10 stars, thank you loads! 😍

United StatesThe owner was so kind. Let me stay in a slightly more expensive room inside without paying the difference and got a ride back to the guesthouse from the city center at night. I wasn’t there for long but definitely felt it was a good deal for the price. It is pretty far from the center of butik lawang. You can walk it in 20min or get a tuktuk for 30rp. The walk is nice. You get to see another side to the area.

GermanySumatra Cheeky Monkeys was an absolutely amazing experience. The Team is stunning and treated us like close friends. The food was really tasty and the Trekking was unforgettable. The guides acted animal and nature friendly and respectful. They told a lot of information about the jungle, plants and animals. We had many options to try local fruits, plants and other things. Also they checked if the trek is possible for us to do. I loved that they were always there to inform, talk and f.e. playing cards in the evening but also were never too close and let us have our own experience.

GermanyIf you want to spend a lot of time in Bukit Lawang it may not be the best choice because it's around 30 min. to walk there. But you can walk to the main road which is just about 5 min. and get a Tuk Tuk to Bukit Lawang (30 000 IDR).
The stuff was outstanding friendly! It's a more quiet place because It's not at the river and a little outside Bukit Lawang.

United KingdomWe are a family with 3 teenagers and loved our stay at Cheeky Monkeys! The rooms were comfortable and clean and the garden large and pretty with lovely areas to sit and enjoy delicious meals prepared by brilliant cook Ellie. We enjoyed walking into Bukit Lewang with its beautiful friendly people and amazing surrounding views. We especially enjoyed the incredible overnight jungle trek where we were expertly guided by Mr Wong and rafted home by Saroule. Such brilliant memories. It was one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in Asia and we will miss our friends (and of the course the dogs 😊) at Cheeky Monkeys!

United KingdomPoor wifi, not good enough for remote working. We chose the accomodation to relax for a few days being surrounded by a jungle. We couldn’t relax as we were constantly pastered by different people to take a jungle tour. We felt like we were not welcomed there when we said we are not taking the tour. The guy who was taking care of the premises seemed offended as he wasn’t even bothered to say hello or good morning. We reported we had no electricity in the room and we waited the whole morning but he hasn’t done anything until we directly contacted the owner who sorted out the issue straight away. I think the place is amazing for somebody who wants to do trekking but you may not feel welcomed if you don’t take a tour. The guy who is taking care of the property does not have the best customer service skills. It is a shame as the place is a paradise.
Amazing location by the river with lots of greenery around. Nice little chalet with a terrace.

Czech RepublicThis was such an amazing place. The owners Sarah and August welcomed us very friendly. We had a pickup at the bus station. The rooms were nice, spacious and comfortable. The food was tasty and for reasonable price. We did 3 days trekking with guide Bai and friends and had so much fun. We saw tons of animals including wild orangutan, siamangs, argus and turtles. The camping in nature was simple but very fun and the food was amazing. We felt like in a family. Thank you 🙂
