Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe hostel was very comfortable and clean with great shared common spaces to work. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything you need. The manager RD is a great guy and is happy to help guests with anything they need. In general, Happy Buddha has a very welcoming atmosphere and I would highly recommend anyone to stay here when in Jogja. Great quality for a good price!

I traveled for more than a year now in Asia and Happy Buddha is for sure in my top 5 of guesthouses. The whole vibe is great. Room is basic with a nice design, good bathroom (with a separated shower), the garden is beautiful with hammocks and cozy sitting areas and the staff is great. They will always have an open ear for you and match to your needs. I enjoyed every second here.

NorwayBathroom felt a bit dirty at times, but that’s something you have to expect when it is a shared bathroom. Would still definitely recommend!
The staff was nice and super helpful. He helped us find places to go, places to eat and where to go after Jogja. The room is small, but comfortable and clean. We were skeptical about having a fan and not an AC, but it turned out to be just fine. The hammocks are so chill, and the kitchen is big, well equipped and quite clean. The location is good for backpackers. ((The mosque did not bother us at all. It is a Muslim country, it’s part of the experience and mosques all over the city anyway.))

GermanyBe aware that the hostel is directly ext to a mosque which means that there will be noise at 4:30am ;) The hostel though provides you also with earplugs. We were in a room with fan only (we don't like aircon...) and there are small holes in the wall so you don't have much noise cancelling, but even so I didn't wake up 2/3 nights even without earplugs (but I also have a good sleep). I think that it's different for the AC rooms. The room seemed always warmer than outside so we had to ventilate before we went to sleep. (Final rating: 8,5)
It's a small hostel with many places to hang out and relax. The atmosphere is great!

United StatesRight next door to a Mosque. So you pretty much feel you are in the Mosque compound during the prayer times. The good news is that the prayers last for only for 5 minutes not long. That makes it bearable.
location is wonderful. Close to the main strip but tucked away on the inside. Room and the entire hostel was clean, looked like freshly painted. The batik throws in the room were lovely. The plants in the premises are lovely.

GermanyEven though the hostel is next to the „backpacker street“ with restaurants and cafés it is a quiet place due to its location in one of the small crossroads. The staff is helpful, friendly, chilled and always ups for a joke. The building and interior are comfy, especially the hammocks in the garden. The rooms are simple but clean and have everything you need. Sharing a bathroom is not at all a problem, since there is a second toilet and due to the rather small size (thus only a few guests) of the accommodation. You will definitely hear the muezzins‘ calls from the surrounding mosques but you get used to it and in the end it‘s part of the experience :)

GermanyThe Happy Buddha is the most beautiful hostel I've been to. The location in the city is perfect for exploring everything around. It has an relaxed and cosy atmosphere not only in the rooms but also in the common area where you can lie in the hammock all day. Ardy is the perfect host who is always up to answer any question, give you recommendations on the city or organize some tours for you. He also makes this such a beautiful place to feel home while travelling. If I get the chance I would definitely come back again. (Additionally the bananas growing there were the best I've ever had.)
