Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe were offered plastic water bottles daily but we would have preferred a water refill instead to do our bit for the environment.
Juda Homestay is a gem of a place! The host, Juda, is clearly committed to ensuring his guests enjoy their stay. He arranged an amazing group tour to Ijen for us - the pick up shortly after midnight was prompt, the guide was very knowledgeable and helpful speaking excellent English, and the sunrise views were unforgettable. Juda stayed up to bring us coffee at midnight which we very much appreciated. Upon our return in the morning, he swiftly prepared us breakfast (and his breakfasts are truly delicious and filling - probably one of the best omelettes we’ve ever had!) and a warming jasmine tea. As the homestay is very quiet and peaceful, we were easily able to then sleep during the day. Juda also served us breakfast at 4.30am on the day we were leaving so we wouldn’t be going hungry for our 5.45am train to Malang - a hero of a host! He was genuinely friendly and caring throughout our stay. We stayed for 3 nights and ate several times at a local warung called Bu Us (only a 1-2min walk away but it’s not on Google Maps). Juda helped us order a veggie meal there on our first day and it was one of the most delicious (and cheapest) Indonesian meals we’ve had on our travels. For a trip to the centre, Juda rented us a good quality scooter. The people of Banyuwangi were so kind to us whether we visited a restaurant, a supermarket or hiking shops (there are 2 excellent ones in town in case you need to buy any hiking items). The bungalow was super clean and comfortable!

Germany-
We just had the most wonderful stay at Juda! We combined it with a trip to Ijen - even if we didn’t really sleep this night, because we were picked up at midnight, we enjoyed every second there. Juda helped us with so may things (find a bus to Bali, book ticket, arrange the right stop with the bus, etc.) and made us the best breakfast we had!!! The garden is so quiet and cozy, you can really enjoy your own patio. We should have stayed a night more.. but next time! Highly recommend this homestay! Thanks Juda

GermanyThis hotel is everything i ever wanted for a stay. Warm water, a very comfortable bed and the nicest host on earth. He helped us so much with everything(Especially with the tour to Ijen). He cooks a delicious breakfast and is generally a very happy funny and relaxed guy. The area is a little bit out of town but because of that its quiet and its the perfect location for visiting Ijen or using it as a base to travel trough east java.

GermanyThere are just some minor points: it would be nice to have an own kettle in the room, so that you can make coffee and tea independent of the host. The mirror in the bathroom is too low, so that you see your stomach rather than your face. The surrounding is a little bit loud (noise from the street and mosque), but that's normal in Indonesia or Java.
We loved the accommodation, nearly everything was perfect. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable, we had our own terrace with beautiful plants around, and everything was well equipped (soap, shampoo, two gargabe bins, multiple towels, etc.). Juda is one of the best hosts we have had so far in Indonesia. He is kind, funny, and super friendly. He gave us advice on how to get to Mount Ijen on our own and what else to see around Banyuwangi. For that, we rented a motorbike directly from him. He also told us how to get best (i.e. cheapest and most comfortable) to Bali after our stay in Banyuwangi. On both days, he made us a tasty and big (from an Indonesian point of view) breakfast. Coffee, tea and water are offered for free all day long. Last, the accommodation was super cheap with regard to what you get.

IndonesiaThe location can be somewhat noisy
The staff (which is Mr. Juda himself) is extremely kind and helpful, ensuring that I got everything I need from check in until check out. An open trip to the ijen crater is also conveniently offered. The room and the bathroom is spacious and beautifully designed. The biggest surprise is in the breakfast as its super delicious! It's already hard to find a free breakfast at this price let alone a delicious one.

GermanyIt smelled a bit mouldy which is due to the humidity I believe. We kept the AC running and it disappeared after a while.
The host was super nice, helped us with the trip to Ijen at night, wobei us up, prepared a little something and served breakfast when we git back. The place is very close and absolutely recommendable if you want to visit the Ijen.

Beautiful location, very quiet despite its close proximity to the train station (so convenient!). The owner had breakfast ready when we got back from our Ijen hike. Very adorable kitty on the property that you can tell is well taken care of. Great value.

United StatesJuda is so great! He is so attentive and helpful. He helped us book the ijen tour and made it super easy! He also stayed up late and made us a snack and tea before we left for ijen (around 1am). The space is relaxing and clean. He makes you breakfast and gives you clean water. It was great. I would highly recommend.

We booked Juda Homestay for the Ijen tour, but was pleasantly surprised by how clean and spacious the room was. The owner was also very helpful and made everyone feel at home. He prepared midnight snacks and coffee before the tour, and breakfast after the tour. Overall a great and affordable place to stay!
