Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyIf you plan on going to Bukit Lawang we would definitely recommend staying at the Jungle Inn! It’s right at the river curve, all the rooms look at the river and the restaurant too! We had the superior room and would recommend to spend the extra bucks for this dreamy room! It comes with a big terrace looking at the river and the jungle and an outside bathroom that makes every shower feel like you’re in a five star hotel! The bed is big and comfortable. We did not sleep this well in a very long time. Alde and all the other staff are very welcoming and kind and always made sure we had everything we needed. The food at the restaurant is so delicious! You can sit inside or outside and enjoy the view while eating and drinking like royalty! We are vegan and the staff at the Jungle Inn had absolutely no problem catering to our needs. The restaurant has a few board games and in the evenings you can sit and play games alone or with others. When we were there some of the staff sat together making music which made the evening so beautiful. Btw. if you’re lucky, you already get to see some Makkah monkeys or even orang utans from this hotel!

United KingdomNothing, but choose your dates carefully when visiting Bukit Lawang. We went beginning of April and it was peaceful, Although a week later, it was due to get very busy due to the end of Ramadan. I can imagine that Bukit Lawang/ the jungle is less enjoyable when there are so many tourists.
There are several rooms and each is unique, We stayed in the one above the bar area which meant we had good Wifi in our rooms, which I'm not sure is necessarily the case in some other rooms. The view of the river from our balcony was superb. The beds were comfortable. Our bathroom was outside but spectacular with hot showers and still the privacy you need. All the staff went out of their way to do anything for you. Definitely recommend.

Netherlands-
Staff and food were amazing. We also booked 2 days of jungle trek to see the jungle and of course to see the orangutan. At the end, we saw more than 10 orangutans, including one male. A special thank you to guide Balu and assistant-guide Incang. They are among the most professional and kindest guides we have ever met. Thank you!

United KingdomIt’s quality throughout. The tours they offer were great and it felt like we getting a more personalised experience than the other tours we saw. The nature of the location is remote and it makes you heavily dependent on your hosts. The jungle inn were perfect on all counts.

Beautiful hotel at the quiet end of Bukit Lawang. We had the least expensive room so no view but it was still charming. Staff are lovely and the food is good.

United KingdomEverything about the Jungle Inn was excellent, in particular the warm and friendly welcome we received from everyone there. The location beside the river facing the jungle is perfect, particularly if you want a quieter place away from the village. The rooms were comfortable and the food very good. Guides Rozi and Anto come highly recommended.

JerseyThe staff made the stay - they are so welcoming, make you feel at home, it is a relaxed atmosphere but also the service is exceptional. Blade was amazing, so professional, made sure we were always ok, fed, watered and comfortable - but he is also just such a great person! Also thank you to Bronte for the conversations, Ichan and our guide Rosie for our jungle adventure, Aldi - an excellent manager, Agung and Ipnu rides and for helping us out with various things and to the lovely Idra! Thank you to the amazing women who seem to do most of the cooking, the food is INCREDIBLE! I actually mainly ate at The Jungle Inn for every meal my entire stay as the food was so good, the menu varied and good value for money. Our room was so beautiful, he had the honeymoon room which had a private view over a waterfall, a bath/shower overlooking the jungle with hot water, a large entrance area (where we had massages one day), bedroom with 4 poster bed in which I would wake to the sound of monkeys and watch them swinging through the jungle before I am even out of bed! A short walk from the Inn and you are down the river with the jungle hanging over you... we got engaged here and the staff made it such a special experience for us. Thank you, love Sarah and Dean!

GermanyEverything was perfect
Amazing place at the end of the road. Peaceful and quiet yet close to all things needed. The staff is exceptionally friendly and acommodating! The food is very good, we tried almost everything from the indonesian dishes and we got addicted to the passionfruit juice :) Our room was large, clean and comfy. You can watch the monkeys on the other side of the river in the jungle - even orang utans apparently if you are lucky! Organisation for transports, jungle trekking, laundry and everything else went flawlessly. We went for 3-day trekking with our guides Jerry and Amin and saw pretty much everything there is to see. Because we had such a great time we immidiately went to the jungle again the day after the trekking! Absolutely recommend Jerry and Amin! Perfect place to be in bukit lawang. Very relaxed and nice family atmosphere. If we come back we know where to stay.

United KingdomNot a dislike but the hotel does not serve alcohol. There is a bar within 30 seconds walk of the hotel that serves if you want a cold one!
Nothing is too much trouble. The staff are so kind and welcoming. 10/10 service. Could not recommend more. One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in.

New ZealandWhere to begin. From the moment we arrived (at 10.30pm might I add, when the staff picked us up from the car park), we were warmly welcomed and looked after. Everyone was so kind. They all knew our names and provided exceptional service. The view from the restaurant is incredible and probably the best in Bukit Lawang being on the corner of the street with a path to the river to swim. You can sit there for hours taking in the view and ordering delicious food. The room was lovely and spacious. Very clean. I was worried about creepy crawlies but only saw butterflies. Now for the trek. The staff arranged our 2N3D trek with Ebo and Anen and the chef (whose name we have forgotten but the food was some of the best we have ever had). This was one of the best experiences we have ever had. Both guides were knowledgeable, friendly, caring and gave us the most memorable time. Ebo’s English is fantastic. He was so kind to us and taught us so much in the jungle. Anen prepared us fresh fruit on every trek break. Both had a great sense of humour and helped us see 5 orangutang and other wildlife. It was so relaxing and serene. We couldn’t recommend them more. We were so sad when it was over and are missing it already.

Ireland- Monkeys can get close and can steal stuff if left unattended (didn’t happen to us but we did have a few monkeys camping outside our room for a while - WiFi is weak and pretty unusable in our room specifically so make sure you have mobile data (and a local sim)
Ok. So for full disclosure with regards to other reviews here, we were in Room 13 upstairs: - Location is right on the river - Great view and 2 balconies - Spacious room and plenty of power outlets - Amazing outdoor shower - is lighting options for power cuts (which can happen frequently) - Breakfast is good quality

SwitzerlandEverything! The owner is excellent, really good to talk to about lots of topics, not just his hotel! His staff are top notch too - it's clear that he runs a tight ship and everything is kept spotlessly clean. The food is great and served with nice local decorative touches. The high ratings are fully deserved. Tip: definitely do the river rafting, it's excellent. Personally, I wqon't do it solo as I'm too unfamiliar with the river (there are 3 or 4 places where you really need to know the river to avoid rocks.). The hike up to the starting point is almost as enjoyable as the return trip on the river. The two lads who controlled things were excellent - felt secure at all times.

SingaporeThrough no fault of the hotel, internet connectivity in the rooms was spotty. (Once or twice a day, the electricity to the community fails for a few minutes.) You need to bring your own soap and shampoo. (The borrowed hairdryer from reception was on its last legs according to my wife.) We booked superior rooms that were spacious and offered superb views, BUT every room in the Jungle Inn offers a great view and the rest of them don't require the climbing ability of a mountain goat to ascend three flights of extra-high steps to reach the entrance. (We booked rooms 0 and 1.) All the merchants in Bukit Lawang charge 4-5% surcharges on credit cards. There's no nearby ATM, either AND the money changer (800m down the path toward the drop-off point) is open at uncertain hours. I suggest you bring lots of Indonesian rupiah and pay cash for everything.
The Jungle Inn is the premier hotel in Bukit Lawang, with a location furthest up the river (higher elevation, more solitude but a longer walk from the drop-off point). It's quiet, clean, spacious and offers remarkable views of 50m-tall rainforest giants just across the rushing Bohorok River. The rooms are perched on a steep hillside, with every room offering a good-to-great view. The rooms are spartan (e.g. no fridge, telephone or TV) but good sized and comfortable. The best part of the hotel is the staff led by Aldi, the manager. His team is extremely helpful and friendly, and everyone speaks good English. The next best part is the food, with the local Indonesian dishes being a house specialty. They're also very reasonably priced. The internet in the lobby/dining area is very good (but less reliable in the rooms).

You should also try their restaurant, especially fish arsik from Bronti (master chef). I can definitely recommend.
