Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaThe bathroom in my dorm didn't have toilet paper. The shower gel needed a refill too. But when I requested for it, they promptly added it.
Loved Laura's "Book of Recommendations" for Jogjakarta and even some bonus activities to do nearby towns! It was very thoughtfully put together with prices but also cute sketches. The free dinner at night is super nice because you get to meet other travellers and talk to them about their stay so far.

AustraliaLaura and the staff are an amazing source of information for what to do in Yogyakarta and the surrounding areas. The hostel is located near the train station and scooter rentals. The communal breakfast and dinner are a great way to meet other travellers.

United Kingdom- rooms could do with some maintenance but you can’t complain for the price - beds aren’t the comfiest
- Amazing, sociable hostel - Laura and staff are kind, patient, helpful and cannot do enough for all guests - Dinner served every evening free of charge, a great way to get people together and chatting - Great place to stay if you’re feeling a little lost and overwhelmed - Location is close enough to walk to train station and shops and local attractions

Great location of the place, near to the centre and still a little bit far from the crazy hassle. The room is nice, with it's own toilet and bathroom. It's possible to use second one if this one is busy. AC working. The only thing - there is no lockers and the room is not lockable from the inside. The dinner and breakfast is free, tasty and you have an opportunity to talk with other travelers and local Laura who can help you out with your plans - everyone is very sociable

South AfricaMattresses on beds were cheap (so not very comfortable) and the bathrooms could do with an upgrade (and some more hooks on the walls to keep things dry). Most importantly, DO NOT book the tour to Bromo and Ijen through Laura’s Backpackers - 4 of us went together and three of the four of us had things stolen from our bags that were locked in a room at the homestay included as part of the tour. plus the vehicle used to transport us was not roadworthy. Spend a little more to do a nicer tour.
Laura is incredibly warm, friendly and helpful in providing advice about what to do and where to go in Yogyakarta, Java and Indonesia as a whole. The free breakfast and dinner were also delicious and brought all travellers together for a great social feel.

The staff could not do enough for you here, so helpful in every way and sent us off on our way for the long train journey today with a gorgeous packed lunch. The food was yummy and all the people I’ve met here have been amazing. While the dorms are basic enough, there is hot water in the showers and really good water pressure and it’s a really great place to meet fellow backpackers. Laura is super helpful with all her advice on the surrounding area and Indonesia in general. I will 100% return here if I am ever back in Yogyakarta ❤️

Czech RepublicIf I remember it well, there were no lockers.
One of the best hostel I have ever been to. So friendly atmosphere, I met many chill people, had so much fun and even extended my stay. Simple rooms but comfy beds, clean bathroom. Staff is very friendly, Laura is a great host, very helpful. There are free (ans super tasty!) dinners every evening, where you can meet other guest and make plans for group trips. As a solo traveller I really apreciated it. You can also book tours to the temples or Ijen volcano directly at the reception. Jogja and it's surroundings is a great place. I havent expect there would be so many things to do. One week is not enough! I definitely want to do back there one day.

United KingdomThe fan rooms get very hot, so I would choose air conditioning if possible!
Laura is amazing - she sees everyone at dinner to help them plan their activities the next day, and has the best tips. She'll even go out of her way to help you arrange activities, and teach you more about the culture. I extended my stay multiple times as, thanks to her, I really learnt to love the city and all the cool things there are to do there! The free family dinners and breakfasts are a great idea, and a nice communal space to meet people. It's a great place for solo travellers. You can rent bikes for reasonable prices too.

United KingdomCleanliness in the rooms & bathrooms could be improved, and it’s a shame there isn’t much of a social area. Personally I’d recommend seeing the sights in the city yourself rather than on the free walking tour as it felt a bit rushed & didn’t add much information.
The staff were very friendly & Laura was super helpful. The free dinner was also great.
