The Melia Makassar is probably better than most high range hotels in this city.

I asked the staff member on Reception for suggestions of a company for a tour of the city. I had thought that maybe the hotel owned a car and would offer that but alas that was not suggested and in any case I had not seen such a vehicle. After much negotiation I gave up only to see an SUV marked with the name of the hotel and logo.

This was our first stay at this hotel where an exclusive lounge (The Level Lounge on floor 18) offers snacks, cocktails, wine, beer tea and coffee from 1500hrs for those guests who book one of the rooms on The Level. The extensive breakfast buffet offers Indonesian and Western food in the restaurant on floor 6 where lunch is also available. Ramadan disrupted the normal dinner restaurant on floor 20 but we were satisfied with the sushi and other snacks available in the Lounge.

The pool on the 5th floor is 'open air' but under cover can get a little noisy with echoing children screams.

The location was excellent in terms of being central / easy walk to see the sites and check out the local restaurants. The room was comfortable and clean and had everything I needed. The food in the rooftop bar/restaurant was tasty and views were great / staff very friendly and helpful. You will not miss the 5 calls to prayer a day as the hotel is next to an architecturally interesting mosque.

The air-conditioner works perfectly. It is just the way I liked it: chilling cold. Room and public facilities were throughly clean. Breakfast selection was adequate.

Lack of knowledge to recommend local tours or to neighbouring towns. Visited Toraja using a less good solution (not recommended by hotel staff)

Good breakfast, just missing some western ingredients like yogurt, but that is understandable as its clients are mostly local

The pillows were lumpy and not good quality. On the second day, housekeeping removed the soap I opened the night before and replaced it with a new one - this was unnecessary and wasteful.

Check in and communication with the hotel was easy. The room was nice. Breakfast and pool/sauna were very nice.

The location is perfect, everything is very clean and comfortable, good breakfast, great facilities, attentive and helpful staff, low cost for the standard of the hotel. I would like to highlight the attention and affection of the receptionists, especially Miss Zefanya and another girl whose name I forgot. I had an infection in my leg and they gave me all the support to go to the hospital and feel better! thank you girls !! I will be forever grateful !

I wish they had given me more information when I checked in. I did not know the hotel provides room service until my 3rd night. I also wish they had asked me to provide a deposit when I checked in (this would have saved me a lot of time using my credit card). As other people have said, the elevators are very slow, probably because the staff use the elevators frequently.

I had a fantastic stay here. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate me; they made me feel at home. I had a complicated request for a doctor who speaks english and they organized the entire thing for me. Robbie and Rafael were very helpful in organizing my bus to Toraja. The bed was very comfortable. It might be the best bed on Sulawesi, seriously. The room is large, the view is nice, the TV works well.
