Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Australia- the cost of transfers isn’t clearly stated in the property profile on booking.com. Their profile mentions free shuttle service (which I took as airport shuttle) however this means the buggy around the resort itself, not airport transfer. The cost of a return transfer is IDR 700,000 which I thought was very high for Indonesia particularly because so many properties offer complimentary transfers. You also receive free transfers if you stay for 3 nights. Again not clearly stated in their booking.com profile however I later learned this from reading the Q&A section of booking.com. We stayed for 2 nights however I would have gladly stayed for 3 nights rather than spending 1/3 of a night’s accomodation on the cost of transfers - the location of the resort is remote. You can only get there by boat (from Labuan Bajo town) or via car/4WD. Other reviewers mention that the last section of road is bad however the section they are referring to is 5km long and is a dirt road - we visited in the rainy season so the road was muddy and full of potholes and bumps so it is a rough ride. We could not take a boat as the harbour was closed due to a storm warning. We organised our own transfer for the way there and this was by car. We didn’t think the car would make it given one section was so steep, muddy and slippery however we just made it. If going by road, I would recommend using the resort’s 4WD rather than a normal car - the sea suites are not fully private in that if you are naked in the bathroom (which is open to your outside deck) then the sea suite in front of you can see back into your bathroom (and also into your room) if they are on the edge of their deck. Not a huge deal but just something to keep in mind if you always walk around naked in your room (which we do) - when checking out I couldn’t use Apple Pay/contactless as the limit is IDR 5 million so I had to pay with card.
- beautiful property, only 17 rooms/suites so there aren’t that many other guests around. We saw max 4 couples at the restaurant at any one time - I like how remote the property is - it’s so serene and peaceful (however it is hard to get to, see comments below) - the structure used as the common area and restaurant is huge and beautifully designed - the pool is huge and well designed - there is a step which runs the full length of the pool on either side so you can sit in the pool on the step and have drinks plus it makes it super easy to get in and out of the pool - unlike other resorts, the pool hours aren’t restricted so you can swim after dinner at 9pm if you like - the staff are super lovely and so friendly - we stayed in a sea suite. It’s beautifully designed and furnished and was spotlessly clean. Staying over the water was beautiful - you can swim in the water directly off your room however I’d recommend doing this at high tide only as the water is deeper and clearer then. On the first day of our stay the water outside our room was quite dirty (mainly with leaves and natural debris but some garbage) as a result of the storm the night before (this is something to keep in mind if visiting in the rainy season). On the second day the water was beautifully clear and free of any debris or rubbish as the night before was calm and clear with no storms - the food in the restaurant is delicious. I agree with other comments that the local/Indonesian food on the menu is limited however my partner is Indonesian and managed to get nasi goreng or mie goreng for each meal by asking the staff, even if it wasn’t offered on that particular menu ie. lunch menu or dinner menu. The fresh pineapple juice is some of the best you’ll taste in all of Indonesia

FranceThe language barrier was an issue: we struggled to get trips booked, we did not always get what we booked or requested, at times needing to ask repeatedly. The kitchen staff was overall perfect but the front office staff could do with slightly more fluency in english. The costs of transport and the fact we booked a trip that ended up being a very touristy 20 people boat trip for the day (when we were told the max would be 12) was somewhat disappointing.
Incredibly beautiful, kind and attentive staff, with a special shoutout to the restaurant and kitchen staff! Delicious cocktails, lovely pool and incredible views. The rooms are very comfortable, well ventilated and climatised.

SingaporeWould recommend to take the boat transfer to the hotel as it’s tough to access via the road with a normal car.
We had the most amazing stay at Menjaga Bay. The villas are gorgeous, honestly one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. The pool and restaurant area is stunning, the walkway to the bar at the end of the pier is really cool and we had a delicious cocktail whilst watching the sunset. We loved our ocean room. Would 100% recommend if travelling to Labuan Bajo and would love to return one day!

AustraliaAll to perfection.
My time at Menjaga Bay was exceptional! We stayed 6 days and we got to meet most of the staff. Every one always with a smile and they were willing to make our staying pleasant. The design of the resort is unique. Absolutely clean, room service, pool area, toilets, every corner! We enjoyed so much all the surroundings, seeing monkeys, so many kind of fishes, birds. The management, bar service, reception, restaurant personnel, are always happy and with the best attitude towards us. I normally do not go back to the same place for holidays but Menjaga Bay, definitely I am coming back. It is true that it is a bit isolated, however the pick up and drop off we requested from the hotel, made it an easy trip from the airport. (In a 4WD ute for the pick up and by boat for the trip to the airport) The fact that the resort is isoleted, bring the real charming to it. Finding quietness, peace and all the good vibes that everyone working there gives to the resort. You have the option to chose from diferent tours to the magnificent islands around. Including Konodo national park. They picked us up from the wharf of the resort. The view from the room is charming, we could see the sunset and sunrise reflected in the small islands and we felt absolutely in the prefect spot. We highly recommend such a vacation with luxurious natural beauty. A special thank you to every one who made our staying an unforgettable experience.

AustraliaAs it's on the island it is quite remote and you have to rely on the hotel staff to get you to and from the villa whenever you want to arrive and go. The boat ride to the hotel was a bit scary with the boat breaking down mid ocean, out of reception and with the boat staff not speaking english - but they got in there with tools and fixed it! Then had a bit of a dodgy way to dock with having the staff hold a freestanding ladder up to a pontoon that wasn't really a pontoon and climbing to land - not for the faint hearted but it was a hilarious way to end the trip, and I believe this is just how things on the island happen and might not be exclusive to the resort. We still got to our flight safety and on time so that's all that matters! Also since the resort is so remote, you are having to rely on the hotel's food and drinks. They have lovely meals and food (I would love to see more Indonesian local dishes rather than almost exclusively Western though!), but they are Australian prices that adds up on a tab you sort at the end. Same with the spa in the resort being almost Australian pricing. It ends up adding up quickly. That said, the stay was so wonderful these are points just to be mindful of but I'd definitely stay here again
Such a beautiful hotel resort. Staff are kind and helpful. They are very attentive and anticipate your needs, especially around housekeeping. There were some minor language barriers with restaurant staff but wonderful to know they're locals that are hired, but nothing that was a problem and their kindness and want to help outweighs any confusion. Beds were incredibly comfortable and extra large and the facilities were gorgeous. Enjoyed fishing from the water villa and having open space and an open bathroom that felt very private. The ladies at the spa were wonderful and gave some of the best massages we've had. Hotel staff on our final night even brought in the cutest little happy honeymoon cake that was just such a sweet and appreciated gesture! Will love to stay here again

Netherlands1. Excursions: We asked in advance to book diving/boat tours; they said we could do it all on arrival but we arrived quite late at night and then heard everything for the day after was already booked. So if you have a relatively short stay would book everything in advance. Also note booking excursions through the hotel is about 1.5x the price of booking it directly with tour operators. 2. Food: They mostly serve bland Western food which is really a shame in Indonesia. On our first night there was salmon from Australia on the menu!? but 0 local fish to be had. Breakfast options very limited. Although juices & cocktails were great. We later asked the chef to prepare something local for us off the menu, which he did and was the best food we had during our stay. 3. Staff: Their English is quite poor but their kindness makes up for it. We did have to ask certain things several times. For example they didn't return our laundry before our departure. In the end someone met us at the airport to give it to us so it kind of worked out, but was a bit stressful. 4. As noted in other reviews, the wifi is poor and the road to get to the hotel is long and adventurous. Better to use boats.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The design is extremely well done. Very modern / Bali vibes. The surroundings / views are gorgeous with a clear view of the Komodo islands, monkeys walking around, snorkling with turtles right on the property, etc. The rooms are quite spacious and comfortable. Everything is very clean. The staff is very kind. For current prices it is really a steal.

Amazing resort. We stayed for 5 nights and everything was perfect. The staff really goes above and beyond and made all our wishes possible. They organized 3 dive days with a local scuba school for us. Really easy to go diving, as the diving school picks you up from the hotel pier. The Breakfast is amazing. Dinner changes daily, we always had great food! The massage is a bit more expensive than elsewhere but very worth it. All in all it’s an amazing place, great people and very easy going. We had the amazing opportunity to discover this wonderful hotel during our visit on the Flores Island last week. Although the hotel was in their “soft opening phase”, everything was perfect. The entirety of the staff was there for us, to meet all of our needs and make sure our trip remained memorable, special thank to Astrid. The road accessing the premises was a little perilous but contributed to the “adventurous nature” side and the goal to tranquility. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable, they all had a beautiful terrace (on stilts for us) where the sunset made them justice. The restaurant offers amazing dishes and the welcoming atmosphere was warm and very friendly but remained discreet and professional, warm thank to Budi and all his colleagues. The hotel does not have a beach but the swimming pool facility was incredible. We were able to go for excursions everyday to visit villages, waterfalls, islands etc. We would like to give credit and thank Taufik for everything he made us discover. The diving and snorkeling sites and experiences were highly over our expectations and extremely beautiful. As you may understand, we highly recommend to stay a few days in this dreamy hotel…

SwitzerlandWe were there during the soft opening period so the few small things that were missing will likely change when they fully open. However, a few things to keep in mind: - resort is a bit away from Labuan, you will likely stay here for dinner (the dinner menu changed daily, but wasn‘t that large a selection - however this might change with their full opening) - There is only an rough and steep access road to the resort, which can get slippery when wet (However they also do Airport transfers by boat, which takes a little more time but is a lot more fun)
- Wonderfully attentive and most friendly staff - Excellent included breakfast with amazing fresh juices and the best bread we had in Indonesia so far - Great views, secluded resort, lovely bar on the sea, just marvelous - perfect for honeymooners or to get away from the stressful and noisy city - Great balineses massages, though they are a bit on the pricey side - Diving day trips possible directly from the resort (pickup via boat, the staff will organize it all)

Singapore1) The road going to the resort. It was bumpy, with lots of potholes and loose gravel, which makes it very dangerous especially when we are going up/down the mountain and there is no guardrail at the side of the road. 2) There is only 1 restaurant, with the same food on alternate days. We were there for 5N and had to special order some of our meals from the Chef. 3) There is no free shuttle service to town and had to pay for the shuttle service for our shopping and meal at the restaurant in town. 4) There should be an alternative option like taking the boat to town/airport. 5) The car that was used for ferrying passengers should not be shared for delivering the groceries, cooking gas, water dispenser, drinks, as we had a minor incident, when the car almost toppled, when the driver is trying to make a turn cos the car was full of items for the resort. We had to walk back to the resort. 6) We had to pay for the soap dispenser, when it was not our fault when we open the bedroom door and it slammed against the wall, even though we opened the door carefully. 7) Since the resort is near the fishing village, we don't feel quite safe at night, knowing that someone can just come up to our resort by the open bathroom area.
The view of the surrounding area and the staff. Every staff we met are just wonderful!

AustraliaTransportation. This was the biggest downfall of the hotel stay. It took sometimes over an hour to get to the town or other activities. On top of that we could only use the hotel four wheel drive for the rough terrain, no scooter access. Each trip cost 200,00Rph and was not always scheduled around the guest, sometimes being utilised for other guests/staff and required to come back at certain times. I understand that this is due to the loss of the boating license to pull into the hotel dock, however left us with quite a large & unexpected bill. Having said that, if you are looking for a relaxing getaway and wishing to really stay in the hotel and soak up the surroundings, amazing spot! The only other thing I would note is that there is no room service menu offered in the room, and no telephones to call up or TV's in the room. (TV's not an issue in a place like Menjaga) however, the telephone would have been great to simply call up front office or restaurant/bar.
Breakfast & dinner was fantastic every time, great chefs! Bar staff were great always willing for a chat and recommendations for places to visit, special mention to Abodi the staff member was an absolute gem of a man. Super nice people, absolutely amazing spot like something out of the movies with the sunsets & snorkelling spots etc.. We used the hotel relaxation spa and massage centre, Darci was great and we really enjoyed the relaxing hours we spent there! Staff member Astrid at the front was very accommodating in organizing activities even the night before, ready for you to visit some of the other islands close by!
