Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyA couple of dusty spiderwebs in the room. Given the position, you will need a taxi to go to the center.
Traditional Javanese house with a nice garden and a very welcoming host. The house is located in a quiet side street in the western part of the city.

IndonesiaToo short in my vacation. So sad.
Friendly staff. Cheap price with very large room. Location very startegic, very near to malioboro and other facility or market. Easy to get or buy meals and gift. In the morning you get fried banana. If possible must come again with better preparation and longer vacation. Thank you very much.

United KingdomWhile the booking does say that breakfast is not included, it was kind of assumed by the owners that we'll just have breakfast there and pay. We'd love to have had more of a choice. We personally are a little bit against having birds in cages and the dog on a chain outside. This is a personal preference. The bathroom itself was ok, it needed some modernisation I think though.
Right in the middle of Yogyakarta and a very lovely place. the staff were really nice. Even when we needed to keep the bags inside their house after checkout, they were happy to oblige. It was very easy to get around from their house and having Grab available made life a lot easier too. The breakfast tasted great and they made a lovely effort to keep the food bug-free, which worked! We also do a very regular bed bug check at each hotel we visit, and it didn't have any. It also had good internet speeds

CanadaA bit far away from sights but the Grab price is not expensive to get there so not a big deal (also try Panties Pizza walkable to the property, so good!).
We loved our stay at the property! The staff and owner were all very friendly and accommodating. Style/decoration of the room was nice too. We especially liked having a little patio to sit out on.

SlovakiaAlthough we loved the birds and the sound of them in the morning, we didn't love the fact that they were in cages.. We don't mind lizards and ants everywhere but if you do, it's not your place.. Last night there was a heavy storm with a lot of rain - water came down on the walls of the room and dripping from the ceiling to our bed - fortunately there were other beds in the room, so we were able to sleep. Our clothes in the wardrobe got completely wet as water was dripping inside it as well..
The place was a little paradise with trees and plants and a lot of shade - we had a pond full of fish on our terrace. The staff was very kind and friendly, always ready to help. We could rent a scooter with helmets and raincoats, which came very handy in the middle of November when the rainy season started.. The owners daughter helped us to arrange climbing tickets to Borobudur, as we had problems with payment on the website - that helped us a lot.

AustraliaIt would be nice to include mosquito electric repellent. Just a suggestion. It would be tricky to open the luggages with four people. Luckily, there were only two of us staying.
We were looking for an affordable traditional accomodation that is cozy and close to my family. This property has ticked all the boxes. Great vibe and very clean. I could not thank enough about the staff. The staff are wonderful and cleaned our room every day. We will stay again next time.

FranceNothing to complain about
Very impressed with the architectural style of the room, the carved wooden door ( a masterpiece). Good attention to details, although a 2 star accomodation, we had better facilities than a 3 star hotel. The owner values his guests, a lot of resting areas in the courtyard, a fridge with juice and beers to cool down were expecting us upon our arrival. Good breakfast ( we were asked what we prefere to eat). The singing birds were the main attraction for the kids. After some bad nights spent in horrible guesthouses, this one came like a very nice surprise.

United StatesSet back a bit from the road, it was fairly quiet - except for the nearby school, which sometimes sent songs over their loudspeakers during the day. The Wifi didn't reach to the back of the room. The neighborhood has a variety of cheap eats along the main road, but it's not exactly an oasis of fine dining. You'll need a taxi to get there from the train station, and we once had to wait ~30mins for a Grab/gojek to pick us up.
We picked the Standard Bungalow with Balcony (upstairs), which was nice for three of us for a couple of nights, but would have felt a bit cramped after that. The beds were large and fairly comfortable; the A/C OK (give it some time!). Drinking water was available at a water fountain downstairs. Friendly staff. There were no mosquito nets, although we never saw any of the critters, so probably just fine. The door had some lovely wood carvings, in traditional style. There were flowers, geckos and caged birds to liven up the space between the rooms. We didn't try the breakfast, but on the last day they left us some snacks, which was nice. Large bathroom, with a decent shower, and hot/cold water. Very good value for money. Credit cards are accepted, although - as is common in Indonesia - there's a small surcharge (2.5-3%) over cash.

NetherlandsNothing to mention.
Beautiful guesthouse built in traditional Indonesian style with a lot of characteristic wood carvings. The venue is located about 15 min drive from the busy city center. The location is very quiet. We had booked a family room for four. This was a very spacious room with two large beds, private terrace and bathroom. Breakfast is served on the private terrace and consists of omelet, toast, fresh fruit, cake and coffee/tea.

CanadaIt was pretty loud in the morning between the rooster, the birds and the scooters. Also the bedroom didn't have enough lightening and would benefit from an extra lamp.
The guesthouse feels like a bit of an oasis. It is down a side street off a very busy street. There is a rice paddy across the street so there were frogs and lightening bugs at night. The host provided a very helpful welcome package that included a list of restaurants recommendations. We tried many of these and they were wonderful - we simply wouldn't have found these places without the recommendation. Guesthouse is not in a tourist neighbourhood but you can easily get inexpensive rides through the ridehailing app. Many amenities nearby such as grocery store, ATM, coffee shops, restaurants.
