Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNot a problem for us, but good to note it is a 15 min walk up steps to reach. Felt nice and secluded as a result though.
Great value for money, beautiful location right on the edge of the jungle, peaceful place to stay.

The homestay is great. The food, service, room, and overall experience were excellent. We also did the 3 day jungle tour with them, and we have a perfect experience! Our guides Herni and Lane (not sure of the spelling!) Were really good guides, and we have nothing but praise for the overall experience. They really did their best to ensure we had the best experience and we learnt so much. We highly recommend this homestay and junglle trekking tour

MaltaThe staff was amazing ! The bungalow was the cherry on the cake , it was just overlooking the jungle. I would like to say thanks to the kitchen staff for cooking us delicious food. Big praise to Robin for giving us the best entertainment and for welcoming us like family. I want to deeply emphasize that the tour guides engaged by this bungalow are professionals. Amir , our three day jungle tour guide gave us the best information and routes in the Jungle, we managed to see most of the animals that we dreamt of seeing! The food in the jungle was amazing ( thanks dian and hendra). Moreover , the night hike was phenomenal as well , it was conducted by Ipul the "Snake man", the legend himself ✌🏽✌🏽. I deeply recommend it 👍🏽👍🏽..

NetherlandsNice bungalow with jungle view next to the entrance of the national park. 2 times Orangutans in the garden. Very friendly staff, good communication for private transport from Medan and from the accommodation to Berastagi. Overnight jungle trek was really good, we have seen quite a lot of orangutans, monkeys and other wildlife. Nice breakfast and good choice of local food in the restaurant. It’s a bit of walking stairs to get to the bungalow (but definitely worth to stay out of noise of town), Amazbut they can arrange a porter to get your bags up and down the hill for a small amount

IndonesiaThe staff is very kind, they gave free food to us and items for our food. The bungalow is maybe basic, but that's exactly why everyone comes to Bukit Lawang, back to basic! The family bungalow gives you a lot of privacy and constantly seeing monkeys in the trees. On the first evening we spotted an urang utang walking next to our bungalow!

United KingdomIt was perfect
This property’s location is amazing. Yes, you have to climb steep hill and steps to reach it but, if you’re doing a jungle trek, you need to do that anyway. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful, with Ronnie (my guide) and Dian helping me with my bags. The jungle trek was tailored to my needs - many thanks to the wonderful Ronnie! We saw 9 orangutans on my 2 day trek, 2 of which were whilst still in the bungalow’s grounds. My room was basic but had everything I needed and was clean. For the price it was outstanding value. The food was good and reasonably priced. I made two separate bookings, either side of my night in the jungle, so have duplicated this review.

IndiaYou gotta hike to this place and hence not advisable for those with large luggages (we just had a small back-pack & stayed here after the trekking to try our luck to spot orangutan at ease sitting in the cottage). You can utilize the hotel's porter service, but this comes at a cost (fair enough). It is very close to the trekking start point. The (old) cottage we were in had rodent issue (you can find a big hole in the cupboard in bathroom) and the bathroom had spider webs. Also, something hiding in the roof of the room makes disturbing sound all thru the day & night (may be the rodent or a gekko or a bat or an owl, I don't know). Jungle stay - so you gotta put up : ) However, it would be great if the property can done something on the above to make the stay better.
Orangutan Bunglow is situated on the hill and away from the main stay areas near the river. Hence it was quite and green with good view of the forest. If you are lucky, you can spot orangutan here (seems it visits in the afternoon. we were unlucky that we checked-in in the evening and checked-out next day morning). Food was good here & was modestly priced.

United KingdomIt’s quite difficult to get to with not much lighting and very steep so be prepared. I arrived in the night so was very disorientated but the amazing views when I woke up in the morning was worth it.
Wow the bungalows in the middle on the jungle are something unique. A mother and baby orangutan were sleeping right next to my cabin and lots of other monkeys passing regularly. Nice breakfast options (pay extra), friendly staff and clean room. Also wifi pretty good considering how remote it is.

NetherlandsCold water in the shower.
The bungalows are decent. Just no hot water and low pressure of the shower. The food of the restaurant is good and the staff is very willing to help. The jungle tour was amazing. The guides really tried their best to show us everything the jungle had to offer. We had a very good diner and breakfast! And a decent bed to sleep in. We would really recommend to go on the trekking with these guides. Also, the accomodation fixed a cooking class for us, which was organized by an amazing woman Erna, who has her own organical garden, growing all sorts of fruits. It was a great addition to our visit to Bukit Lawang.
