Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe facilities are great and the staff are lovely. Edo makes the best food and caters to any diet. You feel so well looked after here! The snorkelling on this island is also the best in the Banyaks, couldn’t recommend enough.

GermanyDiversity in meals, more fish not only very small pieces; tables very crowded when all huts are booked, best max 6Guests. If all huts are booked it would be advisable to have the meals in 2 groups. A bit overpriced
Very relaxing and lovely island. Snorkeling is good, scuba diving possible with scuba center on the island, climbing Gunung Tiusa with nice view possible with short transfer to Holoban. Very nice and welcoming personnel.

GermanyThe Banyak Islands are an exceptionally beautiful group of islands with great clear water and very few tourists so far. Tailana Island is a very pretty little island, jungle inside, beautiful beaches with reefs in front of the island for snorkeling, you can quickly see a lot of small fish. There is also a diving school on Tailana. There is only one accommodation with a few small huts, perfect for relaxing and living life easy. Simple but thoughtful with comfort, little waste produced, the freshly cooked food is very good. Great team, thank you Lukas and Dicky! Snorkeling, diving, kayaking, SUP, boat trips to other islands e.g. Pulau Bangkaru possible Boat transfer available from and to Singkil, best shared with other guests.

FranceThe food portions are not always enough and when you stay for several nights it's laking diversity. When the resort is full, the common room is a bit small and sometimes it's difficult to find where to sit to eat, same for the toilets/bathrooms, one additional unit would be necessary in my opinion.
The island is beautiful, the new bungalows are really pretty and right on the beach, you even have a Seaview from the bed. Staff is friendly and not over present which I like. There are almost no mosquitoes and the beaches are super clean, you can have good snorkeling sessions just a few meters from the beach.

Very beautiful location with excellent food and nice areas for snorcheling. Accommodation and toilets are very clean and i appreciate there are also european toilets, which was comfortable for me. I also enjoyed the outdoor gym and other sport activities as kayaks, voleyball etc. Compared to other islands in Pulau Banyak there are almost none mosquitos. Staff was very helpful with organizing transport to and from tailana island. Thank you for pleasant stay and i hope i will have opportunity to come again.

United StatesIt is a 2.5 - 3 hour trek to get to the island by speedboat, uncovered in the sun. Temp is humid and when the electricity shuts off in the evening, so does the room fan.
Lukas, Irawan and staff gave our family a very personalized, fun and accommodating experience in an already magical island. White sand beach with crystal clear, warm waters housing schools of fish and coral for snorkeling at the shoreline. I loved the homecooked meals - local foods, fish and taste. They created a special lobster candlelight dinner on sunset beach for Father's Day, played games/soccer with the kids, homemade stone oven pizza one night, movie night on the beach, a trip to explore a hidden jungle cave (magical!), learning tour of a local clinic and village tour ending in karaoke. Very few mosquitos. +Wifi- good. We were able to fully unplug & extended our stay to 5 nights.

The place is wonderful. It's a small island, but perfect for people looking for peace and quiet. People who like to spend time actively will not be bored either. There is a diving base on site, a great, very helpful and friendly instructor, you can also opt for kayaking and even a Robinson Crusoe adventure. Reef under reconstruction, but plenty of coral rich dive sites, and some good snorkelling. Bungalows comfortable, clean, close to the sea, electricity available most of the day. There is of course wifi. Shared toilets and shower, clean, nice shower. All staff VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. The hospitality we experienced was amazing! You can communicate in English, Indonesian but also Czech, which made us very happy. They will help organize transfer from Medan airport, boat from Singkil or other regions. Excellent cuisine on the island, seafood, varied meals and unlimited coconuts 😉 The atmosphere of the island and the people made us extend our stay and it was a great decision!

Perfect peaceful location - an island paradise. Able to wander and explore the incredible reefs and the island at our own time and space. Excursions arranged by request we went looking for manatees and to Bangkaru island for an overnight stay to see the Green turtles with the rangers. Food was amazing - fresh indonesian cooking everyday. Relaxed informal atmosphere. Friendly approachable host and staff.

NetherlandsThis has nothing to do with the accommodation, but it’s a hassle to get to Tailana (and all the Banyak islands) - it’s worth it! Also, when trying to get in touch with the acclimation, try WhatsApp!
Nothing but love for this place! Tailana is truly paradise. Accommodation is basic, but offers all you need (and more actually). There’s even wifi at the restaurant - didn’t expect that. They offered beers. And a diving centre just opened! So many great spots for diving, and beautiful snorkelling right in front of your bungalow. I recommend booking the triangle bungalow, because they are newly renovated and have amazing ocean view. Tailana is our highlight of Sumatra, we wish we never left…

CanadaCommunication could have been a little more prompt during our initial planning stage. WhatsApp seemed to be the best way to communicate. We found the number on their website.
We stayed in one of the original huts for 3 nights and it was amazing! Calm waters with no current made for fantastic snorkelling. There are 4 sun loungers, a paddle board and a kayak. You can walk around the island in 20 minutes at low tide. The food was really good and the staff were attentive and friendly. It takes a long time to get there, but it’s definitely paradise once you arrive!

GermanyThere was only one sun-lounger at the beach, for us it was ok as we were the only tourists but the lounger was a little bit broken. General information before arrival was missing (how to get to the island, price of breakfast/lunch/dinner and drinks, overview of tours incl. prices). Poor lighting at the toilet, we recommend to bring a flashlight.
Lovely island in the middle of nowhere, perfect place to relax, good food (also for vegetarians there is a good variety of food), nice beachfront bungalows with good equipment (but there is no mosquito net!), beautiful beach, quiet place (we were the only tourists on this island), friendly and helpful staff, nice spot for snorceling, tour offers e.g. island hopping snorceling tour, small workout area at the beach. Even though it was rainy season we still had a few sunny days and a perfect relaxing time. We loved it! If you travel in the rainy season we highly recommend to put all your clothes/ items in plastic bags as they can get moist/ moldy very quick due to the high humidity.

They say all good things takes time. So will your journey to Tailana, but it will be worth it. Tailana is a paradise. Clear turquoise sea, small island for you and only a handful of people. Paradise. We were the only turist on the island on our stay. The food was amazing (banana pancake!) and the staff accommodate to all your wishes. The new bungalows are great, big enough for 2 people and equipped with electricity. Nice spot for snorkeling, just ask the staff for recommendations. Thank you Tailana for giving us a glimpse of paradise.

GermanyThe communication on the island was not that easy, they speak very little English and other than a small piece of paper with mealtimes and the Wi-Fi password you are not provided with any more info. We were lucky that the other guests told us the most important things to know (for example where the toilets and showers are or how the meal situations are working). The food is served with some attitude and the cook let us know she clearly didn’t like us being vegetarian. On the second day when we refused her chicken again the attitude (a disgusted face and rolling eyes) grew even more. We weren’t told beforehand to bring extra cash for the meals, which you have to pay for even if you didn’t eat them. So a day to eat full board costs 200.000 IDR per person, we had to pay two days full board although we only had to dinners and two breakfasts. It would have been fine if we knew beforehand, but they only told us right when we were leaving. The price theoretically makes sense because the food has to be brought to a remote island, although the portions you are being served are rather small. The generator runs almost the whole day, so be prepared for some noise. I had the feeling there were good ideas at some point but the execution is not that great, maybe it has to do with pre- and peri-COVID, I am just guessing here.
The island itself is beautiful and very dreamy. The bungalows seem to be of different qualities, we had a very different one from what is displayed in the advertised pictures, but still we had a fluffy, bouncy mattress on the floor, a decorative shelf and a mosquito net we could hang up. They offer western toilets and have two showers. They built an outdoor jungle gym, offer sun loungers, different benches and there are many possibilities to be in the shade since the sun is really strong. There are very few mosquitos on the island. The beach is a mixture of sand and dead, washed up corals. The island is great for snorkeling and you can rent all kinds of equipment. The communication with the manager beforehand was okay, best to call him via Whatsapp.

Czech RepublicThe huts are basic. If it's raining, everything becomes moist and won't dry. During heavier rain, it rained through the roof above the bed (we experienced the same problem in other huts of this kind, so they are just not well suited for rainy season I guess). Our activities were quite limited, there was only one kaykak which wasn't recommended for use because of leakage, we also didn't have a chance to go explore outside of the island. The snorkels were covered with mold. Hopefully things are better during dry season and with more staff and eqiupment :)
If you search for really remote quiet tropical island this is perfect choice, because there is only one accommodation here and no other infrastructure. But how comfortable you will be largely depends on the weather. You can only eat here, but the price was very reasonable (50k per meal, but breakfasts were already included) and the food was great, if not best we had in 7 weeks spent in Indonesia. You can snorkel and catch fish right from the beach.
