How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Rooms small, very small, thin wall

It was loud. You can hear every sound from the street, the windows do not mute the noise. Bring earplugs

If you get a room at the end of the aisle, the wifi signal is not too good.
Breakfast tastes good and you can enjoy the view. The staffs are nice. The room is clean.

Excellent breakfast. Staff very professional & very helpful. Hardy & Allan really helped me with catching the PELNI boat to Banda - which was subject to cancellation. I cannot fault their fantastic help & support

A but pricy in my opinion considering it is in Ambon, not a really touristy place.
The staff is nice Breakfast included and with many options at the rooftop with great views. I was every morning looking forward to it. Rooms are clean big and spacious. Bathroom is great too. They provide anything that you need. Live music at the rooftop. AC

Everything was great, no complaints
Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Nominal charge for very early check in which included breakfast. Breakfast buffet excellent. Roof top restaurant has wonderful views of the town and habour.

Nothing. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone because the staff are amazing people and a huge thank you to Joan on reception for all her help and the other staff on reception.
I absolutely loved the stay at The City Hotel. The hotel was modern and had all the facilities to accommodate foreign travellers. The atmosphere was so welcoming and the service was exceptional. Communication from the time of booking and the special request I made was catered for and quick communication from the hotel which was the wow factor. The breakfast had a nice variety and freshly made omelette with a choice of ingredients. The staff were brilliant, always smiling and always want to make sure you have a great stay whilst in their care. I highly recommend the pick up and the drop off service to the airport or port which is very reasonably priced and hassle free. The big bonus for me was everyone spoke good English which made life easy when communicating your needs. I would also like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Joan on reception who had a very cute and lovely smile when you interacted with her. She also very kindly help book our onward journey to the next island I visited because the host at the resort I wanted to go to did not speak English. Joan made all the arrangements and again with a smile. Not only Joan but all the staff went the extra mile to make sure my stay at the City Hotel was pleasant. Thank you very much for your hospitality and I can see why this hotel is so popular with guest (local and foreign)

Our room was on the sixth floor and early morning there was a lot of noise coming from the seventh floor. The noise was people walking around and shifting furniture. It was disturbing when trying to sleep after many hours of travelling.

The street noise, the messy surroundings, the smokers on the rooftop terrace.
We loved the excellent food and the friendly staff. The beds were comfy and the showers great. We liked the rooftop terrace: unfortunately, we could only sit there when there were no smokers around, which was not very often.

The shower (hot water) too slow especially when the hotel full with the guest. And the place to put the luggage so small so when you put the luggage under the hanger you will have a difficulty to open the bathroom's door
The staff all are cordial n good. When we need something the staff will help us fast

The cleaners were dragging furniture across the upstairs floor whilst we were having an afternoon snooze. We were moved to another room which was a big inconvenience.
