Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Japan- Despite being a 5 stars hotel, it's not the cleaniest hotel that I've ever stayed. The bathroom, especially the toilet and the wash basin desperately need a deep clean or an upgrade. - The lobby ceiling also has some leakages and mold which could be a health hazard.
- The property is within walking distance from the night market, so it's pretty easy to go around. - The staff are really friendly and helpful. - For breakfast, the food selection is quite limited but I really appreciate their effort to provide the jajan pasar and jamu. They also have gamelan live performance during the breakfast time which really adds a nice touch to - The room is spacious and the overall hotel is nicely decorated with intricated Javanese wood carvings.

United KingdomObviously a big conference venue, so can feel a little out of place as a tourist. The pool also has a bar right next to it, which can make going for a swim a little awkward as feels like there are people watching you.
Good location right near the kranton, and walking distance from other sights and restaurants. Was a comfortable room.

South AfricaThe bathroom in our room was shoddy, especially when compared to the nice bedroom area. The bracket holding the shower head was broken (so it was impossible to shower standing up) and the holes were still visible in the wall. The water did not get very hot.
The staff were so lovely and friendly, and very helpful. The hotel is so beautiful and full of so many interesting things to admire. Breakfast was very nice, and the little coffee shop in the lobby makes lovely drinks. We really enjoyed seeing and hearing the traditional gamelan musicians perform in the lobby.

IndonesiaCar parking was challenging and lucky that security guard was attentive and helpful. Shower drainage need to be fixed. Guest room furniture is tiring. Changing room at the pool needs cleaning.
Truly loved the hotel ambience from the lobby, hotel corridors and restaurant. Hotel staff is very pleasant and attentive especially the reception, restaurant host, security and concierge. Hotel location is the best and closed to Surakarta palace and right at the center of the city. Live cooking Nasi Goreng was tasty. Food variety is fine and just missing the yogurt.

United KingdomVery impersonal, we felt no connection with the staff except for the pleasant doorman. The room has no information or greeting, I don't know if it even had room service or whether I could get a drink (there was no bar as far as I could see). At the end of the stay, I noticed there was one of those ghastly QR barcodes taped up at reception which I suppose would have provided information. I hate that - why are hotels going down this route? The rooms had a slight smell of damp/mildew, probably because you can't open the window. The beds were firm to the point of being uncomfortable. The biggest problem we encountered might sound silly - the hotel is located on the busy main thoroughfare which was a nightmare to cross (we had children with us). This is a big problem for Solo. That meant we effectively felt cut off from half the city! Looking for somewhere to eat in the evening became difficult - we toured the block around the back of the hotel and found the Saffron resto (excellent) and there were plenty of decent warungs.
The Royal Surakarta has a grand entrance hall and some interesting Javanese design features (it is though a modern building). The pool was a big highlight for the children and the breakfast had a lot of choice but it was pricey (not included in our room price). The rooms were large and clean, the bathroom facilities were very good. Staff cleaned every day and kept us in order! The busy road on which the hotel is situated closes to traffic for a joyous 2 hours 7-9am on Saturdays (check) - what an unexpected delight to see local families out strolling, cycling and playing down the street.

JapanLovely hotel! We had just come from the Melia Purosani hotel in Yogya and it lacked a little bit of the friendly warmth and energy we experienced there but we still loved the extravagant foyer, including the little gift shops and we had a huge, well-equipped, quiet room which was wonderful.

IndonesiaToilet bidet was a bit leaky and it took time to turn on the hot water. In-room phone handle smelt pretty bad, so please make sure to put cleanness and hygiene as your top priority. Laslty, the parking lot was also limited so it would be quite challenging for those who bring a private car.
Strategic location, close to many of the city’s landmarks. Spacious room. Great breakfast, really enjoyed my meal. Friendly and helpful staff.
